Jewell County, Kansas "S B Brown pre nw of 30 Oct 3 ’71 homesteaded fall of ’71."

Under date of February 9, 1872, the area of school district No. 11 was reduced to nine square miles and the officers elected at the meeting of April 5, 1872, were S.I. McLean, director; the same clerk as before, and S.B. Brown, treasurer. The district was further reduced in size in the early spring of 1874 to the regulation size at that time, of six square miles, like all the other districts in the township. Each of the districts were at that time three miles north and south by two miles east and west. Thus No. 11 was the mother of about half of the districts in our territory.
Number eleven furnishes a wonderful instance of faithful performance of duty and an appreciation of the fact; Sydnor B. Brown held the office of treasurer of the district continuously from April 5, 1872 until July 30, 1896, twenty-four and almost one-third years.

Snydor B. Brown 1834-1919 is buried in Yukon, Oklahoma # 11201856.
"Sydnor Bailey Brown was born in Liken (sic) county, Ohio, June 1, 1834, where he resided with his parents until he attained the age of 14 years. At that time, with his parents, he moved to McLean county, Ill, living there until the year 1856, then moving to Harden county, Iowa. On September 27, 1861, he answered the call of his country and enrolled under the Stars and Stripes for service in the Civil war, serving his country 3 years, 1 month and 26 days, receiving an honorable discharge November 23, 1864. On September 29, two days after his enlistment, he was united in marriage to Nancy Ann Whitney at Eldora, Harden county, Iowa, where they remained until 1871, at which time they moved to Jewell County, Kansas, taking up a homestead. In that then very new country, they commenced building their home, remaining there until the fall of 1900 when they sold their holdings and came to Canadian county, Oklahoma, buying land near the town of Yukon, and in 1909 he retired from active life, moving into the city of Yukon, where he remained until the time of his death, which occurred March 8, 1919, having been preceded to that great beyond by his beloved wife, by one year and three months.
