"Twenty-one members of the Beecher family gathered on Christmas Day
1907, for their first family reunion since 1876. At that time there
were about the same number present. Since then death has claimed the
mother, the oldest son Oral and oldest daughter, Janet.
The other daughter Mary, living at Salem, Oregon, was unable to be
here, which left but six who attended both reunions.
The following named persons were present this Christmas:
J. M. Beecher Sr., 77 years of age and great-grandfather of three
children; Sarah A. Beecher the wife aged 73;
E. C. Beecher, oldest living son 52;
Mrs. E C. Beecher with their children Maude, Bonnie, Zella, Olive, Harold and the
son-in-law Bert Shoenberger with his infant daughter Esther,
J. M. BEECHER, Sh. Willie B. Beecher;
J. M. Beecher Jr.; his wife Lillie M.;
John A. Beecher, his wife Nora A. and their three children, Catharine, Marshall and
Theresa;
Phil Beecher and his wife May. The absence of the grand daughter Myrtle,
and her husband and two boys was deeply regretted, as was also that of
her brothers Lloyd and Milu.. The first swarm gathered at the home
of J. M. Beecher Jr. for the Christmas dinner. Just before dinner
the whole bunch was 'kodak d' on the front porch and another picture
taken showing the four generations present, J. M. Beecher Sr.,
E. C. Beecher and wife, their son ... and his baby great-grandchild.
After all had old fashioned together and in story,
reviewed ... enjoyed to the full the turkey dinner
the recalled his family. most heart melting
family history, yet with faith illumined eye,
he testified to the power of Jesus Christ to save from sin,
to comfort and uplift in the severest testings of life,
great faith, pleaded
with his children to surrender to the 'Father of lights'.
In a moment that will never be forgotten by any of
those present. The sons gathered about him and with
streaming eyes invoked God's richest blessings upon the
remainder of his years on earth, and almost without
exception pledging themselves to serve their father's
God and thus answer their mother's life-long prayers.
The daughters-in-law and the children added their
loving best wishes and then all joined in prayer.
Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Beecher Jr. sang a couple
appropriate duets and after everybody had signed the
register the company broke up Thursday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Phil Beecher entertained at supper
the members of the family within reach.
After supper a pleasant hour was spent in story
and music including two old fashioned songs
by J. M. Sr. and some original songs by
J. M. Jr. The round of festivities closed with
dinner on Friday at father Beecher's home
and a group photograph of himself and his
five sons."
