John Addison Beckhart was the 1st or 2nd to go in this cemetery and the family history states he is buried in the Cleveland lot. He was not married. John was a dark man, heavy set, jolly, and loved to joke according to those who knew him."
William's sister is buried Jewell County, Kansas
"Amelia, Ann Beckhart, daughter of Jonas and Elizabeth Beckhart, was born
la Pickaway County Ohio, December 8th, 1853, and died April 26, 1913.
She was the fifth child cf a family of thirteen children of the same
parentage, consisting of eight brothers and five sisters. She was permitted
to outlive her parents and all their children, save five brothers who survive
her as follows: Rev. A. D. Beckhart, Atlantic, Iowa,
Henry Smith Beckhart and Charles Chrisinan, of Monticello, Illinois,
Jonas Franklin Beckhart, Maroe, Illinois and William Edmund Beckhart,
of Denver, Colorado.
At the time of the death of her mother, Oot. 15, 1873, she was
pursuing a successful high school course in Monticello, Illinois.
She immediately gave up her educational plans,
and generously responded, as she thought to a call of higher duty
in the care of her father's household.
For eight years she faithfully remained at this post of
strenuous duties, or until the time when, the minor children
were able to care for themselves. On the third of March 1881,
she waa married near Monticello, 111. to Mr. G. H. Bailey.
To this union was born three children, Grace Elizabeth Bailey,
who was permitted to give filial comfort and care to her mother
in her sickness, Nellie Bailey, who died at the age of fourteen,
in 1898, and Harry Franklln Bailey who died at the age of eighteen
years in 1904. In the spring of 1883 they moved to Republic County,
Kansas, and lived for two years on her father's farm near
Scandia, Kansas. In the year 1885 the family imoved to
Jewell County, Kansas, where they have since remained. It is scarcely
known when her religious life commenced, for she loved righteousness for
its own sake. She loved the true, the good, and the beautiful.
She was always moved by Gospel appeal and in early life sought that
her life should be an illustration of Gospel truth.
She was long a loya1 member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and
for a number of years In Mankato, Kansas, served as an official member doing efficient work as a member of the board of
Stewards. Her love for the church was such that in her closing days of
life, though fraught with much suffering, the thought of the
sympathy and love that she found among Christian people, was a
great comfort to her. The flowers and scripture cards and
other tokens of good will that were sent were considered by her
a sacred trust and their bestowal was as a gift from God.
In the latter part of the month of August, 1913 she was called to
Atlantic Iowa, to attend a funeral in her brother's family.
She seemed to be in her usual health, but soon after her return to
Mankato, she was taken to the Wesley hospital, Kansas City,
and was given an operation requiring much surgical skill.
For a time she rallied and after two weeks she returned to her
home in the care of her daughter, Mrs. Grace E. Thompson, where
in the intimate fellowship of the home, ministered in her every
need by her husband, her daughter and by the loving hands of
friends and neighbors she came through much suffering to
the tranquil close of a triumphant life.
In her most severe illness she was ever mindful of the
comfort of others, not forgetting the children of the community,
of whom she was very fond. Those who were permitted to visit her
bedside during these last few weeks had the high privilege of
witnessing the closing of a triumphant life, and the fruition
of a faith that is calm and steady in every exigency even
down through the valley of the shadow cf death. The hymns,
Scripture reading, and text used at the funeral were of her own
choosing. She prepared for the great change as for any other
journey. She approached death as one cf the duties of life,
a task to be accomplished. She sorrowed at the parting, but
rejoiced in the hope, of immortallty, and tn the very near and
very real presence of Jesus. The loss of such a woman is
irreparable to the sorely stricken husband and daughter,
to the relatives, and to the whole community.
A brief service was held in the home Sunday morning
where the body lay in state until the public services at
the church at 2:30 p. m. conducted by her pastor,
Rev. H. M. Templin, assisted by Revs. Fraser and Loyd.
Oneof the five surviving brothers. Rev. A. D. Beckhart,
of Atlantic, Iowa, was present at the funeral.
Interment was made in Mount Hope Cemetery. "
