Augustine, but this error was
rectified Sunday when the latter was
found lying across the doorway
with a handkerchief across his face.
The body of John Augustine was found
at 1:30 in the second southwest
entry about 1,800 feet from the No.
1 shaft of the Leyden mine.
The discovery was made by a party
of four helmet men, headed by
John S. Davidson of the mine
rescue car, who entered the mine
at 11:30 a. m. preparing to make a
dash of 1,500 feet from the first
southwest entry, to which point
the ventilation had been
established by canvas
brattices.
The body was left lying, it being
decided to lend every effort to find the
five who are still missing. At 3:45 p. m.
Sunday another helmet crew of five men
under Thomas Truesdale went into the mine
for another dash. They returned to the
surface at 5:45 without finding anything
