Laurine Genevieve Saul Wrenn passed away in Graham, Washington, August 15, 2007, after a brief illness. She was an exemplary woman, mother, educator and public servant. Laurine was born November 20, 1916, in Atwood, Colorado, the ninth of nine children born to Margaret Belle Adams and George Joseph Saul. She enjoyed a rough and tumble childhood on the plains, and graduated from Atwood High School at the age of 16. She pursued higher education, receiving B.A. and M.S. degrees from Colorado State College of Education (now the University of Northern Colorado) in Greeley, Colorado. She interrupted her teaching career to serve in military intelligence in the Women??(TM)s Auxiliary Army Corps in WWII. She married fellow teacher, Ben Hooper Wrenn, in Colby, Kansas, in 1946. They were the parents of Robert Scott Wrenn and Kristie Maureen Wrenn, and were longtime residents of Fruitland and Ontario. Laurine moved from Ontario in 1998 to live with her daughter's family. She moved with them to Utah in 2000 and then to Washington State in 2006. Laurine taught high school in Fruitland, Idaho, and Ontario, Oregon, before joining the staff of the fledgling Treasure Valley Community College. She taught in the history department and served as Dean of Women at TVCC. She was an active member of the Fruitland First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed membership in several professional organizations, was a charter member of the Women Veterans Memorial Association and a member of the Democratic Party. She was active in local and national politics. She served on the Ontario planning commission and city council prior to her election as mayor of Ontario. She received numerous awards and recognitions for her contributions to the community. Laurine was predeceased by her parents, her eight brothers and sisters, her husband, Ben and son, Scott. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kristie and Dan Knodel; her daughter-in-law, Amy Wong; grandchildren, Benjamin Arthur Knodel (Mimi), Melanie Knodel Schultz (Joshua), Christopher Robert Wrenn; great granddaughter, Kassidy Taylor Knodel and numerous nieces and nephews. Laurine was much loved by her family and friends and will be cherished in their memories. She was a truly unique person. She was intelligent, energetic, kind and loving, with a gift of a loyal, compassionate and gracious spirit. She would want us to extend appreciation to her friends and staff in Utah at the Alta Ridge Assisted Living Facility and to the ladies and staff in Washington at Heavenly Acres Adult Family Home who lovingly accepted her into their extended family. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday August 22, at the First United Methodist Church in Fruitland, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated for the Treasure Valley Community College Foundation for scholarships or the Fruitland First United Methodist Church. --------------------------------------------- Robert Scott Wrenn was born in Flagler, CO, Jan. 1, 1948, and passed away in Olympia, WA, on April 19, 1996 after a courageous battle with diabetes. He was the son of the late Ben H. Wrenn and Laurine S. Wrenn, Ontario, OR. Scott graduated from Ontario High School (1966) and the College of Idaho. He received graduate degrees in history and library science from Utah State University and Denver University. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Puget Sound (now Seattle University). He was a member of the Idaho Bar and the First United Methodist Church, Fruitland, ID. Scott worked for several years as Assistant Librarian in the State Law Library in Boise, ID and was employed in the Code Reviser's Office in Olympia, WA since 1987. Scott is survived by his wife Amy Wong Wrenn and his son, Christopher Robert of Olympia; his mother Laurine Wrenn; sister Kristie (Dan) Knodel; nephew Ben Knodel; niece Melanie Knodel; uncle Richard Saul and numerous cousins. Scott had a love of books and music and a thirst for knowledge. He was dedicated to his family. The family gratefully acknowledges the generous contribution of shared leave by state employees duringScott's illness and the prayers and support of many churches, colleagues, and friends. Services will be held at Mills and Mills on April 27, 1996 at 10am, 414 S. Franklin in downtown Olympia. Interment will follow the services at Masonic Cemetery, Tumwater, WA.
