Eva Viola (Cope) Shanahan, son William Shanahan , 8 South 49 West

Eva Viola Cope was born to Jonathan and Mary Ann (Neil) Cope (yes, the founder of Cope, Colorado) in Indiana.
In 1870 Ripley County, Indiana, Jonathan is 35, Mary A. 30, with William 11, VIOLA 9, Isabell 5, and Elizabeth 3.
Robert Marion Shanahan and Eva Cope were married Feb 26, 1881 at Syracuse, Otoe County, Nebraska, in the Methodist parsonage.

In 1885 Otoe County, Nebraska, R? Shanahan is 26, Ohio, Viola 23 Indiana, with Wm. 3 and Mattie 2, both Nebraska.

In 1900 Cope precinct (then Arapahoe County, now Washington County, Colorado), Eva V. Shannahan born June 1861 in Indiana, married but no spouse, is a stock raiser. They're following Jonathan Cope, so their home must have been very close to Cope. With Eva are William D. Dec 1881 Nebraska, Mattie J. Sept 1883 Nebraska, and Mary E. Aug 1892 Nebraska.
Eva V. Hunter, formerly Eva V. Shanahan, proved up a quarter in 11, 6S 49W in 1913, and another in sections 2 and 11 in 1914.
(Robert M. Shanahan in 1910 Otoe County, 50, born in Ohio, second marriage of seven years to Sophia E. 50, and they have Joseph B. 6. Her son George George M. Joiner 17, born in Nebraska, is with them. Robert and Sophia are there in 1920, too, with Joe._

In 1910 Seibert precinct, Eva V. Hunter is 48, second marriage, married three years to Charles A. Hunter 38 - his first marriage.. She's had four kids, three living.

Eva V. Hunter 1861-1917 is buried in Seibert # 37918683 "Wife of G.A. Hunter."
(Charles A. Hunter married Nellie Walker August 21, 1919, recorded in Denver. In 1920 Charles A. Hunter 48, born in Iowa, is married to Nellie E. 47, Iowaa in Kit Carson County.)

William D. Shanahan married Mettie Rose, both of Seibert, on December 24, 1906, in Bethune, Colorado. Witness was Rollie Rose.

In 1910 Kit Carson County, William D. Shanahan is 27, born in Nebraska, married three years to Mattie W. 26, Iowa.
In 1911 William cash-claimed 80 acres in 31, 7S 49W. William proved up a 162-acre tract in sections 30 and 31, 7S 49W, and in section 6, 8S 49W in 1913.
Then in 1914 he proved up another quarter in 1, 8S 50W.
William registered for WWI with a Seibert address, born December 12, 1883, married to Mettie, farming.
In 1920 Kit Carson County, William is 36, married but no spouse, farming, living alone.
(Mettie was living with her mother Susan Rose 73, in Seibert precinct in 1920, married Don Love in 1925, and in 1930 is back wtih mother Susan Rose 84 in Kit Carson County. Mettie W. is 46, ella B. Love 60.)

William Dalton Shanahan was born at Alma Nebraska on Dec 12, 1879, and registered for WWII in Pettis County, Missouri.

William married Myrilla Dillon on August 4, 1920, recorded in Adams County, Colorado.

He's buried in Pettis County # 152401717 "Fatally injured by a train, wife Marilla (Dillon) Shanahan.
November 14, 1948 "William Delton Shanahan, aged Crowds of Britons waiting at 66 years, a farmer who resided a mile west of La Monte, was fatally hand when injured about 6:10 o'clock Friday evening when a 1936 pickup truck struck by a Missouri Pacific east bound passenger train No. 14 two and a half miles east of that place at a railroad crossing. The small truck was demolished and Mr. Shanahan was hurled some distance by the impact suffering fractures of both legs and receiving a fracture of the skull. The train in charge of Conductor C. L. Porter, of Jefferson City, with the Engineer, George S. ...of Sedalia, was stopped and Mr. Shanahan was taken aboard and brought in to Sedalia and to the Bothwell Memorial hospital in the McLaughlin ambulance. Dr. John B. Carlisle attended him here reporting at once that his condition was critical. He died at 8:10 o'clock. The body was taken to the Parker home at LaMonte. Mr. Shanahan had delivered some coal to a relative and after unloading it was returning home. His truck was moving south toward highway No. 50 when the train reached the crossing and wrecked it completely. Mr. Shanahan was born in 1880 at Alma, Nebraska, the son of Robert M. and Viola Shanahan and was married August 5, 1920 at Hudson, Colorado those surviving are: his wife, Mrs. Shanahan: five sons; Ralph, Vernon, Kenneth and Raymond of La Monte, Melvin of Sedalia; one daughter Miss Velma Shanahan of La Monte, and one sister, Mrs. Mattie Stanley, of Turner. One son, Robert, was killed in service in 1945. Funeral services will be held at the Parker home in La Monte, Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the Rev. W. T. Thompson in charge. Rev. Thompson is also in charge of the music. Pallbearers will be, Glen Glassnap, E. R. Hayworth, Roy Rus- .sell, Glenn Reynolds, Raymond De Frain and Floyd McKeehan, Interment will be in the La Monte cemetery."

In 1900 Kirk precinct, Yuma County, Marilla A. Dillon is 9, with parents Eli J. 54 and Effie J. 44. William is 20, Merriam 18, Alice 17, Ura 14, Hattie 11, Matilda M. 9 - must be twins, Ivy 6, Hazel 4, and George 3.

December 5, 1912 Wray "Mr. E. J. Dillon and wife were in from Kirk, Tuesday, as witnesses in the Wm. Mace case."


In 1940 Pettis County, Missouri, William D. is 60 born in Nebraska, married to Marilla A. 40, with Melvin T. 17, Robert D. 18, Ralph L. 13, Leo V. 9, Velma R, 7 - Marilla and these kids all born in Colorado. Kenneth E. 1. was born in Missouri.
Marilla Adeline (Dillon)Shanahan born 1900 in Yuma County, Colorado, died Nov 18, 1989 in Pettis County. William D. Shanahan 1880-1948 is on the tombstone, but not in FindAGrave.

Melvin Shanahan 1922-1994 is buried in La Monte # 152960228.

In 1930 they're in Mesa County, Colorado. Dick R. is 53, Mattie J. 46, with Howard D. 21 and Ralph M. 17. Her father, Robert M. Shanahan, 74, divorced, is living with them.
