Marion F. and Lois (Slonecker) Roberts


Seward, Nebraska

"Joseph K. Slonecker was born in Westmorland county, Penn., Oct 17, 1824. Removed with his parents to Freeport, Harrison County, Ohio in 1839. At the age of 22 he was united in marriage to Margaret A. Covington, at Freeport, Ohio.
In 1850 they removed to Fulton county, Ill. and remained in Fulton and McDonough counties till 1875 when they moved to Seward county, Nebraska, where they have resided and laboured together till the husband was called to his “home not made with hands,” on the evening of May 1st, 1895, aged 73 years, 6 months and 14 days.
There were born to Uncle Joe and Aunt Margaret eleven children, four sons and seven daughters.
There are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father, Margaret A. Slonecker, his wife, and sons and daughters as follows: Henry F., Elizabeth F. Barns, Martha R. Cummins, Lois C. Roberts, Emily A. Figard, Adele D. Slonecker, Joseph H. and Jennie M. Campbell, besides many grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters, namely: John, of Tamora, Neb., Abram of Freeport, Ohio, William A. of Farmersville, Mo., Keziah Tidrick of Wayne, Neb., and Sarah Tidrick of Milinersville, Ohio.
Two sons and one daughter preceded the deceased to the other shore, John C. aged 17 years, Mary Jane aged 10, and Edgar, aged 20.
Uncle Joe encountered the rugged side of life during his stay on earth, and his was truly a life of toil, in rearing a large family, battling against adverse circumstances, and building a home first in Ohio, then in Illinois, and lastly their home in this county. "


The death of Margaret Ann Slonecker occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Newton Slonecker, on February 19th at the age of 88 years. She had been a patient sufferer for more than a year from cancer.
Mrs. Slonecker was born Margaret Ann Covington, near Freeport, Ohio on April 4, 1825. She was married to Joseph K. Slonecker, on Aug 20(?), 1846, who left this life on May 1st 1898. To this union were born eleven children of whom seven are still living to mourn the loss of a good and loving mother.
Mr. and Mrs. Slonecker came to this county in 1875 and settled on a farm northwest of Seward, living the remainder of their days in this community. Their children are Frank Slonecker of Moorefield, Nebr., Joseph Slonecker of Staplehurst, Mrs. William Cummins of Seward, Mrs. John Figard of Seward, Mrs. Henry Campbell of Seward, Mrs. Newton Slonecker of Seward, and Mrs. Marion Roberts of Dunning, Nebraska
Joseph 1825-1898 # 79390365 and Margaret Ann (Covington) Slonecker are buired in Seward.

In 1860 Fulton County, Illinois, Marion is 6, with parents John 46 and Susan 42. John is 22, Susan 17, Prudence 14, Jasper 11, James 8, and Isabell 3. Prudence Hall is 85.
In 1870 Saunders County, Nebraska, John is 56, Susan 53, with Jos T. 18, Marion 16, Laura E. 12, Douglass 9, and Jasper 21.
John Roberts 1813-1897 # 74414048 and Susan (Hall) Roberts 1818-1904 are buried in Seard, Nebraska.
"Roberts-Slonecker -- At the residence of the bride's parents, on October 20th 1878, by Rev. T.L. McLean. Marion F. Roberts and Miss Lois C. Slonecker, both of this county (Seward).
In 1880 Seward County, Nebraska, Marion Roberts is farming 25, with Lois 22 and John 1."


In 1885 Seward County, Nebraska, Marion Roberts, a grocer, is 31, Lois 28, with John 5, Olive 4, and Rex 1.
In 1893, Lois C. Roberts was a charter member of the Seward Rebekah Lodge.


Ray A. Roberts proved up a quarter in 13, 9S 49W in 1915.
Ray A. Roberts is in Kit Carson County in 1920, 31, born in Iowa, with Leona B. 31 Illnois. They have Lloyd S. 9 and Fern L. 7, both born in Colorado.
All four are in Kit Carson County in 1930.

In 1900 Kit Carson County, Marion Roberts sells general merchandise, born January 1854 in Illinois, married 22 years to Lois C. Oct 1856 Illinois, have John A. January 1880, Olive O. May 1881, and "Rex R." May 1884, son Vivian L. March 1894, all four born in Nebraska.
1904 Valentine, Nebraska " Rush Miner , a ranchman living and a half miles southwest of Dunning on the Dismal River , is afflicted new and unclassified stock disease v broke out in his herd ten days ago , taking away nineteen head in a few hours. Miner contracted the malady while ning one of the dead cattle. He had constant medical attendance and the prospects are that even will lose the sight of one or both eyes.
The disease takes the form of erysipelas when transmitted to man , causing great blotches to appear on the face and other exposed portions of the body. The victim suffer cruciating pains about the head and especially the eyes are thus afflicted. The stock is afflicted the disease is not Hi ing , but kills in a very short time , being much the same as erysipelas which strikes to the heart. Ranchmen are deeply concerned a the new malady to cattle and it thought that an investigation will held soon in which the state veteriua and others learned in stock ailments take part. "
Olive O. Roberts probably married Rush Miner, born about 1866 in Illinois , and he's widowed in 1910 Dunning, Nebraska, with Marion R. 6, born in Nebraska.
She had Alta R. about 1906 in Nebraska, and in 1910 Alta is with Frederick T. Miner 49 and Luta E. 39.
1907 Dunning, Nebraska "Funeral services held for Olive Ombria (Roberts) Miner, wife of Rush D. Miner."
1908 Broken Bow, Nebraska "Marion F. Roberts, of Dunning, was a city visitor Saturday."
Marion was a brakeman in 1940, and later was a conductor on the Zephyr.
Marion Rush "Pike" Miner died Feb 25, 1958, and is buried in Winnemucca, Nevada # 92068334. On etree said he ahd married Fern Mollinax, and they had Jean in 1940 Humboldt County, Nevada.
Olive Roberts and R.D. Miner's daughter Alta Ruth Miner married Bert Goldsmith April 2, 1928 in Orange County, California. He was 40, she was 22.
Olive Ombra Roberts and Rush Dunning Minor's daughter "Wayne Ruth Miner Goldsmith, 28, married Francis Healy, also 28, in Los Angeles July 15, 1936.

In 1910 Blaine County, Nebraska, Marion has a drug store and grocery, 56, Lois 53, with Vivian 16, Nebraska, and nephew Joseph H. Lizard, 28, Nebraska, a grocery salesman.
Lois C. Roberts 1856-1916 is buried in Blaine County # 15714870.
In 1917 Blaine County, the Dunning Band performed at the Jones Opera House, with Vivian Roberts on the Tenor (must be saxaphone).
Vivion L. Roberts, 1894-1918 is buried in Blaine County # 15714864.
Marion is widowed in 1920 Blaine County, and the next household is John C. 40, and his wife Nora M. 34. They have Clyde E. 17 and Lenora V. 15, both born in Nebraska.
One tree said Marion died in 1927.

John C. Roberts was in Blaine County in 1910, 30, with Nora M. 24, Clyde 7, and Lenore 5.
John C. is back in Flagler, Colorado in 1930, 50, no occupation, married to Lulu 33, first married at 33, born in Nebraska. With them is Clyde 26 and his wife Alice M. 24 Kansas.
John C. Roberts, age 57, married Rachel I. Mahoney, age 19, in Wray on August 20, 1937.
John C. is in Boulder County in 1940, a helper in a lumber yard, married , and was in Morgan County in 1935. His wife Rachel 22 was born in Iowa, and was in Kit Carson COunty in 1935. Rex D. 2 is their son born in COlllorado.
One tree said John died in April 1947, and that Rachel married James Wesley Poe, was in Colorado Springs in 1957, and died in 1992 in Oklahoma.
(Rachel was in Flagler precicnt in 1930, age 12, with parents John C. and Mary L. Mahoney). In 1910 Rex is 26, in Thomas County, Nebraska, running a general store, married three years to Floy E. 20.
Rex Roy Roberts registered for WWI in Alliance, Nebraska, a traveling salesman, wife Kathlyn, born May 5, 1884.
They're still in Alliance in 1920.
Rex is in Denver in 1930, living with divorced sister Ferne I. Nelson, 42 and her daughter Maxine.

Rex is divorced in 1940 Denver, a salesman, living in a rooming house.

Samuel O. Roberts cash-claimed a quarter in 26, 8S 47W in 1908.
