Left Aguilar (Colorado) for country at 8 a. m. - Hired team and surrey from George Jones, liveryman Aguilar, Colo. ; expenses for same paid by Mr. Hibbard, surveyor of mineral deposits, G. L. O. - Dense fog all day. Arrived at Read's ranch at 3 p, m. Took affidavit of James L. Read, entryman, Pueblo Township 30 S., R. 67 W, This affidavit to be signed and sworn to next day, this being Sunday. Traveled about 20 miles through bad mountain road. Arranged to stay at Read's ranch for the night. Mr. Jones, liveryman, acted as driver. Read's H. E. improvements excellent. Coal land.
Trinidad. Colo.. Monday, Oct. 19, 1908. Had James L. Read sign and swear to his H. E. affidavit taken day before. Took affidavit of James L. Read, entryman in Pueblo series, T. 30 S., R. 67 W. Went carefully over this to observe improvements. Improvements good, r supply hardly permanent. "

Huerfano County " 'December 23, 1947 the defendant Ralph Read conveyed his property, both real and personal, to his father and mother, namely James L. Read and Fannie Read. 'March 24, 1948 plaintiff filed her action for divorce, and to have the conveyance of said property to the defendants,[119 Colo. 281] James L. Read and Fannie Read, set aside and held for naught. "

Thanks to Nancy Christofferson, who wrote "Two of Thomas Rogers's daughters married Read brothers; Fannie who became Mrs. James L. “Lew” Read in 1897 and Katherine "Katie" who was Mrs. George F. Read. These brothers were the sons of Henry W. Read, a veteran of the Civil War from Missouri. H.W. and his wife Nannie moved to the Santa Clara area about 1881 in a covered wagon. Nannie died in 1882 and is probably buried in the Rogers Cemetery. H.W. remarried and left the area in 1913, though several of his children remained. Fannie and J.L. had at least five children, the last of whom to be interred in the Rogers Cemetery being Nancy, who never married, in 1979 and Fred in 1984."

Robert J. "Bob" Read - Huerfano World - November 7, 2008 - Robert J. "Bob" Read, 56, of Aztec, passed away Sunday Oct. 19. He was born to Beulah and Ralph Read on June 29, 1952, in Walsenburg. Bob graduated from Walsenburg High School in 1970. In July 1985, he moved from Denver to Farmington, which soon became his home. Bob was employed with M&R Trucking at the time of his passing. Bob loved riding his Harley and spending time with his friends. He was loved by many, touched everyone he met, and will truly be missed. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Read; grandparents Robert and Margaret Payne; and Fannie Read. He is survived by his mother, Beulah Read of Walsenburg; brothers Duane and Larry (Elena) Read of Walsenburg; and sisters Dorothy (O.J.) Serna of Colorado Springs and Mary Beth (Lonnie) Scott of Farmington. He also is survived by four nieces, one nephew, two great-nieces, two great-nephews and dear friends Robert "Mongo" Archuleta, Cathy Bardebben, Fancy Fenton, Lauretta Dostaler, Rita Stout and many more. A celebration of Bob's life was held Saturday, Nov. 1 at VFW Post No. 614,201 S. Park Ave., in Aztec.
Henry Read married Elsie Milburn Oct 13, 1897, recorded in Huerfano County.
