Robert Knowles , 8 South 49 West
In 1870 Cass County, Nebraska, David Knowles is 59, Ann 52, Roland 22, Howell 17, J.Edwd 15, and Robert 13.
In 1877 Cass County, Nebraska, D? Knowles is 67 born in England, A. Knowles 60 Wales, with son P. KNowles 30 Iowa, a J. E. KNowles 18 female born in Iowa, J.C. Knowles 21 Iowa male,
C Knowles, Nebraska, R.R. Knowles male Nebraska, R.S. Knowles 17 male Iowa.
One tree says Annie (Mary) Carlton immigrated from England, arriving New York 1873 with mother June Carlton, at age seven.
In 1885 Lincoln, Nebraska, R.G. is 23, A. 16, with D.C .ten months.
Robert proved up a quarter in 14, 8S 49W in 1892 - near the town of Seibert.
In 1900 Gage County, Nebraska, Robert is a train dispatcher married 17 years to Annie Sept 1866 England, with David Aug 1884 , Annie June 1892, Griffith July 1894, and Jane, 3 - all four born in Nebraska.
They're in Red Willow County Nebraska in 1910, with all four kids.
In 1920 Red Willow County, they have only David, a switchman, and Griffith, an assistant clerk.
Robert, per # 60639908 is buried in Gage County 1861-1927.
So is Annie 1868-1945, David 1884-1956, Griffith 1894-1969.
Annie is widowed in 1930 and 1940 McCook Nebraska.
SHERIDAN
Sheridan might be the one in Bourbon County, Kansas in 1860, age 6, born in Illinois, with Horatio 39 and Jane 29.
"LT COL Horatio Knowles
b. 15 Jan 1821 in Corinna, ME, son of Caleb Chaplin Knowles and his wife, Rachel Shaw Knowles who appears in KANSAS HISTORICAL COLLECTIONS, Vol X, 250.
In addition to serving, he was also member of Territorial House of Representatives and the first state legislature.
He was with Second Kansas (colored) Infantry, serving from 1863-1864 (mustered on Nov 17, 1863).
2nd Kansas Colored became 83rd US colored.
Resigned at Little Rock, AR because of illness, and was murdered by border ruffians under the command of Allen Matthews & Major Courcey in Marmaton, KS.
Originally buried in Marmaton in a separate properly marked grave next to the single grave of others murdered that night, his grave was supposedly moved to Fort Scott's National Cemetery #1, but the grave is not identified there. There is a write-up in Cutlers History of Kansas, State History Part 14.

In 1870 Bourbon County, his mother likely is married to Oscar Himes, so Sheridan is listed as a Himes.
In 1880 he's in Gunnison County, Colorado, a miner, 26, born in Illinois, in a rooming house.
Sheridan Knowles cash-claimed a quarter in 8, 9S 49W in 1891. He had a homestead record, but it apparently wasn't completed.
