Artensa Andrews, 8 South 49 West

Artensia proved up a quarter in 10, 8 South, 49W in 1894.


The homestead certificate is clearly "Artensa", so it's not a recent data entry error.
If "Artensia" is the Hortense White born in Michigan to Jacob and Martha Sammis White, Jacob's will of 1857 lists his children.
"To my two sons Amos R White and Orin White all the rest, residue, and remainder of my real and personal estate to wit: the North West-quarter of the North West quarter of Section Seventeen in the Township of Leonidas County of St. Joseph and State of Michigan all my stock farming tools, Blacksmith tools, etc etc they are to seaze and enter uppon the same immediately after my disese to have and to hold the same jointly forever they may will the same to whom they please but in case they should die without a will the same shall fall back to their children or in case they die with out children it shall fall to my daughters and two youngest sons born to me of my present wife Martha White.
Said Amos R and Orin White are to pay to the remainder of my Children Namely Fanny Ferris, Simeon T. White, Charles White, Jacob White, Jr, Eliza White, I have herd she was maried but do not no; John F. White, Annette or Antinette White, I have herd she was maried but do not no; Latytia White, Henry S. White Vilettee White, Martha Gaffelia White, Josephine White, Hortensie White, Weltha Corrintha White, one dollar each and to Alvertis E. White, and Ambros White, two hundred Dollars each to be paid as follows each one to have a good new two horse lumber waggon at the appraisal of a cariage manufactorer "

In 1860 St. Joseph County, Michigan, Eden Hall is 50, farming, Martha 41. With them are a bunch of White kids, Henry 19, Violett 17, Martha 16, Alburtus 13, Josephine 9, Hortense 7, Welthia 5, Maty 3, and an Alfred D. Hall, 12.
In 1870 Cloud County, Kansas, Hortensie White is 17, teaching school, born in Michigan, living with the James and Clara Bowen family.
Hortense White, age 21, married George W. Andrews, age 25, in Cloud County December 4, 1871.

Eden Hall 1809-1891 and Martha Sammis White Hall, 1818-1902 are buried in Red Bluff California # 49934762.

In 1880 Cloud County, Kansas, Hortensia Andrews is 25, married born in Michigan. Daughters Winnifred 6 and Nellie 3 were born in Kansas, and mother Mary Heall, 61 born in Ohio and sister -in-law Cynthia Holston 31, New York.
In 1885 Montrose County, Colorado, Geo W. Andrews is a saloon keeper, 39, born in New York, Hortencia 30 Michigan, with Winnie 11, Nellie 8, and Mabel 4 born in Kansas.
One tree said the Strehlke Bible said she died in Denver July 8, 1890 age 37 yr 4 days, buried in Riverside Blk 2, Lot 114, Sec NE 1/4. Riverside on-line listing has George W. Andrews buried Jan 24, 1906 in age 59, block 2, lot 114 - but no Artensia, Hortense, or Ortensia Andrews or Andrew.
Mrs. H.F. Andrews died in Denver July 8, 1890, to be interred at Riverside.


George Andrews had a hospital record in Denver in 1892.
George W. Andrews applied for a placer claim in El Paso County, Colorado in 1896.

In 1900 Manitou, Colorado, George Andrews born Nov 1847 in New York, is a gold miner, married eight years to Annie Aug 1860, Switzerland.

Nellie Strelhke, born Aug 1876 in Kansas, is in Meeker, Colorado in 1900, married 4 years to Lewis, a pharmacist, Mar 1865 Colorado. They have George July 1897 born in California.
In 1910, Lewis and Nellie are in Montrose, Colorado. Lewis is a druggist, George is 12, Katherine is an adopted daughter 18, born in Michgan, and Lewis' brother Charles Strehlke 33, is with them.

Nellie Mable (Andrews) Strehlke, 1876-1951, per # 85527891, and Lewis are buried in Glendale, California.

In 1900 San Francisco, California, Winifred F. Drost, born Feb 1875 in Colorado, married ten years to John D. Drost, a pharmacist, 1862 Germany. They have Florence Jan 1892 Colorado.
Winifred Florence Dorst, age 49, born in Kansas to George Andrews and Hortnese F. WHite, married Martin Kronenbert, age 57, in Oakland, California Aug 5, 1925.

Helen Florence Blackwell, born Nov 23, 1880 in Kansas, father Andrews, died Nov 30, 1950 in Alameda County, California.

ANOTHER POSSIBLE
In 1880 Alpena, Michigan, Ortense Burdic is 22, divorced, living with mother Harritt Baxter and her new husband William, both 58. Minnie Burdic is 5, Charles Burdic 4.

In 1900 "Tensy" born April 1857 in Michigan, married 19 years to farmer Mark Andrews, born Jan 1839 England.
In August 1907 Alpena Michigan, Hortencie Andrews, age 50, daughter of Ephraim Burde/Burdick and Harriet Hill, marrried James Recter.
In 1910 Alpena, "Ortencia" Andrews is 53, widowed, with two children still living, , and Mary Hadley, stepdaughter, 32, widowed, is with her.
"Ortensia" Andrews, age 62, living at the Soldiers' Home, Grand Rapids, Michigan, married William Strong, age 70.
