Ames, Iowa October 24, 1944 "Ole Tweet,66, of ??? Burnett, passed away at the Mary Greeley hospital this morning at 4:30 a. m. following a lingering illness of three months. Tweet, who was born May 5, 1878 in De Kalb county, I11., operated a blacksmith shop at Slater and later moved to Collins. A former Radcliffe resident, he moved to Ames IS years ago. In September, 1901, he was married to Inger Wastun at Colton, S. D.. Surviving relatives are his widow; two sons. Benhart of Ames, E. Orlando of Milwaukee, Ws.; one daughter, Mrs. K. C. Ornlng of Amos; two brothers, lieu I), of Des Moines, and Thomas D. of Slater; one sister, Mrs. Julius Wastun of Ames; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at S:30 at the Adams Chapel with Rev. Joseph Knulson of the Belhesda Lutheran church in charge. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal cemetery. "

October 12, 1960 Ames, Iowa " Mrs. Inger Tweet, 75. SOS Burnett Ave., died about 8 a.m. today at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. C. Orning. Born at Colton. S. D., she came to Ames in 1926. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Waston. She attended Bethesda Church here. Survivors include two sons, Benhart of Ames and Orlando of Des Moines; a daughter. Mrs. E. Orning, Ames; two brothers, George Wastun of Colton. S. D. and Pat Wastun of Yerihbton, four sisters. Mrs. Tiflie Randall of Los Angeles, Mrs. Bertha Gunderson of Maple Lake, Minn, and Mrs. Anna Moran of Garden Grove, Calif, and Mrs. Althea Farrand of Jordan, Mont. and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ole B. Tweet; her parents; two brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. from the Adams Funeral Home with the Rev. O. N. Severseike officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery. "

Ella May (Tweet) Orning 1913-1976 is buried in Ames # 168998118.

"Edwin C. Orning, 70, 2017 Country Club Blvd., died Aug. 19, 1974 at Lake Miltona, Minn. Services are Friday at 1:30 p.m. from the Adams Funeral Home with the Rev. William E. Benbow of St. Andrews Lutheran Church officiating. Burial is in the Ames Municipal Cemetery. Born Dec. 30, 1903 near Gilbert, Mr. Orning was lifetime resident of the Ames area. He graduated from Gilbert High School and received a B.S. degree from Iowa State University in 1929. He and Ella Mae Tweet were married Sept. 8, 1938 in Burlington. Mr. Orning was owner and operator of the Orning Glass Co., Inc. for 42 years. He was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church and the Ames Elks Lodge. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Allen Peter, 3913 Quebec St. and Stephen E., 1228 Kellogg Ave.; a daughter, Barbara Lynn, at home; a brother, Arthur, Pittsburg, Penn.; two sisters, Mabel Orning, 1801 30th St. and Mrs. Beatrice Petersen, St. Paul, Minn. and a granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Willis.

In 1930 Orlando is a railroad traffic manager in Fort Dodge, Iowa, with Evangeline both 26.

Narcissa Evangeline Lampman was born July 20, 1903 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Sylvester Orrin Lampman and Sarah Ada Allen.

Narcissa and Ernest married in Iowa on October 6, 1928.

Benhart, 22, born in Colton, S.D., married Olive M. Barrett on June 10, 1925 in Radcliffe, Hardin County, Iowa.

In 1940 Ames, Iowa, Benhart is an electrician at the state college, 38., with Olive M.33, Benhart 10, and Larry L. 3.

Benhart Oliver Tweet, Jr. born August 26, 1929 at Sheldon Iowa to Benhard Oliver Tweet and Olive Marie Barrett, died January 5, 1959 when his vehicle hit a bridge on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Bedford County. He was an electrical engineer.
Bedford, Pennsylvania "Benhart Tweet, 29, of Mount Holly, N. J., was pronounced dead on arrival at Bedford Memorial Hospital of multiple injuries yesterday after his auto hit a bridge ahument on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, five miles west tof here"

JULIUS

In 1900 Minnehaha County, South Dakota, Ole Wastun, born March 1852 in Norway, married 24 years to Lena July 1857 Norway, have George 23, Julius 20 both born in Iowa, Cornelius 16, Tilda 13, Bertina 10, Anna 7, Oliver 5, Altia 2, adopted son Ginus Ison 10, and niece Ingeborg Grousdell 14, all born in South Dakota.

George Jorgen Wastun was born at Cresco, Iowa on December 2, 1876 to Ole Wastun and Lina Pederson, both born in Hardanger, Norway.

December 12, 1937 "Funeral services for Ole Wastun, pioneeer Colton farmer who died Saturday after an extended illness, will be conducted at 1 p. m. Wednesday at the Minnehaha Lutheran church here. Mr. Wastun, who came as far as Pipestone, Minn., by train and then made the trip to his homestead northeast of here by team and wagon in 1880, was 85 years old. He built one of the first sod houses in this area. Born in Norway in 1852, he came to the United States in 1873 and settled in Iowa, later resided at Rushmore, Minn, where he worked as a shoemaker and then came to South Dakota, He first settled at Cresco, Iowa. With Mrs. Wastun, he made two trips to Norway, one in 1910 and the second in 1920. In 1915 Mr. Wastun built a home in Colton where he resided to the time of his death. He was one of the first members of the Minnehaha Lutheran church here and assisted i n organizing St. Ansgar's church, situated northeast of Colton. Mr. and Mrs. Wastun celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in ???. Mr. Wastun leaves the widow, five daughters, Mrs. Ed Randall of Colton, Mrs. B. C. Farrand of Jordan, Mont., Mrs. Tom Gunderson of Cottonwood, Minn., Mrs. George Moran of Fresno, Calif., and Mrs. Ole Tvedt of Ames, Iowa: and three sons, George of Colton, Oliver residing in California, and Julius of Ames, Iowa. He also leaves 32 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Rev. K B. Vaaler will officiate."

Julius registered for WWI in Hardin County, Iowa, born May 28, 1879, an auto mechanic, with wife Celia.

In 1920 Hardin County, Julius is a garage mechanic, 39, Celia 37, Idella O. 16, Olive B. 13, Julia C. 10, and Myrtle J. 8.

Julius and Celia are in Hardin County in 1925, with Olive 18, Julia 15, and Myrtle 13.

June 1926 Hardin County, Iowa " Mr. and Mrs. Ole Wastun, Mrs. Ed. Randall and children of Colton, arrived from Colton, South Dakota, Wednesday of last week for a visit at the Julius Wastun and O. B. Tweet homes. "

August 1929 Ames Iowa "The Julius Wastun family of Grundy Center were Radcliffe callers last Thursday. They moved last week from Grundy Center to Ames."

In 1930 Ames, Julius is a salesman in an implement store, 50, with Celia 48, Julia 20, and Myrtle 18.

August 24, 1933 Ames, Iowa " Miss Myrtle Irene Wastun, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Wastun of Ames became the bride of Thorvald C. Petersen, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Petersen of Storm Lake in a ceremony performed Wednesday afternoon, August 23 at Slater. The service was read by the Rev. E. R. Rorem, pastor of the Bethlehem church. The couple was attended by Miss Genevieve Johnson of Radcliffe and Dale Weber of Dallas Center. The bride was graduated from the Radcliffe high school in 192? and since then has been employed in Ames. The groom was graduated from Newell high school in 1928 and from Iowa State college in 1932. While in college he affiliated with the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. The couple left early in the evening for a short honeymoon trip to Minnesota. Upon their return the couple will be at home in Callender, Iowa., where Mr. Petersen will be principal and coach in the schools there."

April 1934 Waterloo, Iowa "Julia Wastun, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Wastun, Ames, and George Dettbarn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dettbarn, Radeliffe, were married April 14 in St. John's church at Hubbard by Rev. J. G. Schliepslett."

Julius O. Wastun, born May 28, 1879 at Cresco, Iowa, registered for WWII in Ames, Iowa, working for Luglan Implement Company in Ames. He and elia was living at 211 E. 12th Street in Ames.

October 2, 1960 Waterloo Iowa "Funeral services for Julius O. Wastun, 81, who died Friday.. hospital, will be at 2 p. m. Monday at the College Hill Lutheran church, Rev. Edward Brammer officiating. Burial will be in Fairview He was born at Cresco May 28, 1879, the son of Mr. and Mrs. O. T. Wastun, and later lived at Colton, S. D. He was married to Celia Tweet Jan. 5, 1902, at Madison, S. D. Survivors include his widow; four daughters: Mrs. Idella Auld, Boone; Mrs. Elmer Dettbarn, Chicago; Mrs. George Dettbarn, 1925 Clay St., with whom had made his home, and Mrs. T. C. Petersen, Mt. Prospect, I11.; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; also five sisters and two brothers."

One tree said Celia died in 1961.


MYRTLE

Myrtle Wastun was born July 21, 1911 in Minnehaha County, South Daktoa.

In 1940 Hancock County, Iowa, Myrtle Peterson is 28, with Thorvald 30 and daughter Darlene 4.

July 1942 Madison, Wisconsin "Mr. and Mrs. George Dettbarn, Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Wastun, Ames, Iowa, have returned to their homes after a visit with Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Peterson, 3815 Gregory st. Dettbarn is a sister and the Wastuns are parents of Mrs. Peterson. Mr. and Mrs. Peterson and their daughters Darlene and Barbara are new residents from Garner"

In 1950 Myrtle and Thorwald Petersen- a state organization director for teh Wisconson Farm Bureau, are living at 4115 Meyer Avenue in Madison, Wisconsin.

Thorvald Peterson died in Cook County, Illinois on August 7, 1983.

Darlene Ann Petersen and Leonard Arnold Anderson had Rachel Ann Anderson on May 29, 1961 in Hennepin County, Minnesota.

JULIA

February 1940 " Funeral services for George Edward, six weeks old son of Mr. and Mrs. George Dettbarn of Cedar Falls were held at the Lutheran church in Hubbard Thursday afternoon at two oclock with John Schliepsiek in charge. Interment was made in the Hubbard cemetery.
George Edward was born 1940 at Cedar Falls and passed away following an illness of pneumonia. The baby was baptized in Waterloo. Surviving are the childs parents, grandparents Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Wastun of Eldora and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Dettbarn of Eldora, two great-grandmothers, Mrs. Ole Wastun of Ames and Mrs. Augusta Neubauer of Eldora."

Julia C. Dettbarn 1909-1979 is buried in Cedar Falls, Iowa # 67387477, with George 1910-2002.

OLIVE

Olive Beatrice (Wastun) Dettbarn 1906-1988 is buried in Hardin County # 61716644, with Elmer C. 1907-1959.

Their daughter Ellen is buried in the same cemetery # 48149770
"Ellen Margaret (Dettbarn) Balvanz was born on January 20, 1932 in rural Radcliffe, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Olive (Wastun) Dettbarn. She graduated from the Eldora High School in 1950. On February 20, 1955 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Balvanz at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Eldora. She was a member of the AAL (Aid Association for Lutherans); American Legion Auxiliary and St. Paul's Lutheran Ladies Aid. Ellen Margaret (Dettbarn) Balvanz, age 78, passed away on Thursday; February, 11, 2010 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Those left to mourn her passing are: Her husband, Kenny; two sons, Jeff Balvanz and his wife, Denise of Ames and Frank Balvanz and his wife, Kim of Marion; and ten grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. May they rest in peace. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. Funeral Services will begin at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday; February 16, 2010 at the Alden St. Paul Lutheran Church with burial at the Alden Cemetery."


IDELLA

Idella Wastun, 19, married John Auld, 21, son of Charles Auld and Maud Oden, on July 7, 1923 in Nevada, Story County.

John Sterling Auld 1904-1971 is buried in Cook County, Illinois # 180315672
"He first wed Idella Aletha Wastun, a native of South Dakota, on July 7, 1923 in Nevada, Story County, IA. They had daughters:
1. Mary Jane or Jayne, born and died Nov. 2-3 1927 in Ames,
2. Kathryn Elise, born Nov. 16, 1928 in Ames, Story County;
3. Janet Idella, born Feb. 22, 1936 in Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, IA.
The family moved from Slater and lived in Mason City, IA, where john worked for the railroad in 1940s. He was a Signal Engineer."

Idella W. Auld, born August 12, 1903, died February 14, 2002.
She was born in Colton, South Dakota, and died in Ames February 15, 20002, a sales clerk and rsecretary.
"IDELLA ( Wastun) Auld, 98, of Ogden died of congestive heart failure Thursday at Ogden Care LLC. The body was donated to Des Moines University Osteopathic Medical Center, and no services are planned. Mrs. Auld was born in Colton, S.D., and had lived in Boone most of her life before moving to Ogden in 2000. She was a retired secretary at Boone Bible College and also had been a secretary with First Presbyterian Church and the ASC office, a dietary worker with Boone County Hospital and a salesclerk with Riekenbergs. She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and a 50-year member of Boone Women's Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Carter of Gravois Mills, Mo.; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild."

"Kathryn E. Carter, age 76, of Gravois Mills passed away Monday, March 21, 2005 at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach. She was born November 16, 1928 in Ames, Iowa, the daughter of John and Idella Wastun Auld. She was united in marriage in Des Moines, Iowa, on August 26, 1949 to Don Carter. Mrs. Carter was a member of the Kent Memorial Lutheran Church in Sunrise Beach. She enjoyed reading, puzzles and sewing. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Don Carter of the home; one son Doug Carter of Colony, Kansas; one daughter Donna Westerman of Colony, Kansas; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son David Carter, one daughter Diane Carter, and one granddaughter."


December 1961 Roland Iowa " Harry Wastun of Story City was found dead in his home Sunday after neighbors reported had seen no one moving about for several County. Coronor William Bitsa reported Wastun had died Thursday from a coronary. Born in Wtotun, had lived all his life in this area. He is survived by two brothers, Elmer of Des Moines and Andrew of Omaha and a sister, Ada Brekke, Brekke of Blue Earth, Minnesota.... Services were held Monday with Harold Masted in charge. Burial was in the Story City cemetery."
