LILLIE'S FAMILY

In 1900 Hardin County, Iowa, Iradel Thornton is farming, born Oct 1853 in North CArolina, with Almira Oct 1860 Indiana. Clarence Oct 1882, Lillie Feb 1886, Guy May 1888, and a son born Mar 1900, all four in Iowa.

"Irdel" M. Thornton proved up two quarters in township 6S 59W, Elbert County in 1912.

Clarence E. Thornton and Alice E. Smith married in Colorado on May 26, 1909.

In 1930 Clarence is farming in Elbert County, Colorado, 45, with Alice 43, Myrna 17, Joseph M. 16, Beuel 15, and Mintie 14. Her father David L. Rozell is with them, 70, widowed, born in Iowa.


Myrna S. Thornton, 20 married James C. Woody on July 15, 1931 in Elbert County.

March 14, 1950 Hardin County "Myra Thornton, daughter of Levi and Mary Ann Lundy, was born in Indiana, Oct. 29, 1859, and died March 7, 1959 in her home here. She came, with her parents, to New Providence and had lived in Hardin county the remainder of her life with the exception of five years spent in Colorado. She was married to Monroe Thornton in 1880. Her husband preceded her in death in 1920. They were parents of five children, and three of these survive. They are Clarence Thornton of Monett, Mo.; Lillie Thayer of Rock Valley; and Gurney Thornton, of New Providence. She was a member of the Honey Creek church. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Thornton, Monett, Mo., and Mr. and Mrs. Alfonso Thayer of Rock Valley reached here Wednesday, called by the death of their mother."
"Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Thornton are spending a little while at Iowa Falls and Alden with their daughter, Mrs. Don Allen, and son, Beuel Thornton, and families at the above places respectively, before returning to their home at Monett, Mo. They were called here by the death of Mrs. Myra Thornton, mother of Mrs. Thayer and Clarence Thornton. "

Clarence E. Thornton, born Oct 10, 1883 at New Providence to Monroe Thornton and Myra Lundy, husband of Alice, died January 25, 1959 in Barry County, Missouri, to be buried in New Providence.

Mrs. Myrna Smith (Thornton) Woody, 97, Monett, Missouri passed away at 2:17 p.m., Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Monett Health Care Center Monett, Missouri. She was born March 12, 1911 in Deer Trail, Colorado the daughter of the late Clarence and Alice (Smith) Thornton. Myrna was united in marriage to James C. Woody on July 15, 1931 in Kiowa, Colorado. The Woody’s moved to Monett in 1948 and owned and operated the Monett Sale Barn until 1952. They were active members of the Monett Saddle Club. James preceded her in death February 11, 1976.
Myrna worked for many years as a sales associate at J.C. Penney in Monett and enjoyed her retirement years gardening and growing beautiful roses. She was baptized into the Christian Faith on December 12, 1976, at First United Methodist Church in Monett, Missouri. She was active in United Methodist Women, Lydia Circle, and Administrative Council at the church. Myrna also worked as a volunteer for Loaves & Fishes.
She is survived by; one sister: Mrs. Don (Mintie) Allen of Iowa Falls, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Buel Thornton, and Joe Thornton, of Loveland, Colorado.

ALFONSO AND LILLIE
In 1920 Elbert County, Colorado, "Fon" Thayer and Lily are both 34, with Dell 8, Bert 7, Verne and Jessie both 4.

Bert Armstrong Thayer was born Nov 15, 1888 to Adelbert Thayer and Milie Armstrong, in Rock Valley Iowa on November 19, 1888, and registered for WWI in Deer Trail, Colorado, farming, single.

In 1930 Elbert County, Colorado, Alfonso is farming, 44, with Lillie 43, both born in Iowa. Del M. 19, Robert B. 17, Jessie R. and Verna M. both 14 - all kids born in Colorado.
Alfonso's brother Bert A. 42 born in Iowa is with them.

Alfonso 1885-1951 is buried in Sioux County, Iowa # 21491482, with Lillie 1886-1966 # 21492089.

"Last rites for Alfonso Ames Thayer, 66, were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 14, at the Methodist church with Rev. M. L Jones officiating. Burial was made in the family plot in the Valley View cemetery. He was born January 11, 1885 the son of Dell and Millie Thayer, at Rock Valley and died at his home on Tuesday, September 11, 1951. Mr. Thayer made his home around Rock Valley until he was 22 years of age, when he went to Deer Trail, Colo. He was united in marriage with Lillie Thornton at Deer Trail on September 11, 1909.
Four children were born to this union: Dell, who lost his life in the service of his country on September 11, 1943; Bert (Spike) of Rock Valley, Verna Wisner of Sanborn and Jessie Taylor of Englewood, Colo.
Mr. Thayer and his family returned to Rock Valley in 1934, and lived on a farm near here.
Survivors include his wife three children, two brothers Bert and Harold, and nine grandchildren.
Francis McNamara, Stanle McKeegan, Alfred Claussen, T. McGill, all of Rock Valley, J Hanks of Onawa, Iowa, and Crandall of Denver, Colo., served as pallbearers.
Those coming from out of town to attend the funeral sevices were Mrs. Jessie Taylor of Englewood, Colo.; Mrs. Agnes Toon and Mr. and Mrs. J. Crandall, Denver; Mr. and Mrs. Guney Thorton and Ralph of New Providence, Iowa; the Clyde Jedmans and Doris Mann of Lake View, Iowa;. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hanks of Onawa; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gutknecht of May City, Iowa. ;Mrs. Verna Wisner and sons, the Fred Wagners, Victor Powers, Leonard Bloks, Phil Cuppetts, Mrs. Anna Blok, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Leemkeil, Mrs. Gail Pitts and Ogden Childers, all of Sanborn; Dale Norton of Spencer; the Ray Pedersons, Rock Rapids; the Raymond Pedersons of Canton; George Cubbage, Brookings, S. D.; Mrs. Anna O'Connor of Amboy, Minn.; Vincent McNamara, Sioux Falls.

1954 Sioux Center "Mrs. F. A. Thayer visited her daughter, Mrs. Verna Wisner, at Sanborn last week.

August 18, 1966 " Funeral services for Mrs. Alfonso Thayer, 80, were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. The Rev. Raymond Roloff of the Methodist Church officiated and burial was in Valley View Cemetery. Mrs. Thayer died Saturday night at a Sioux Center hospita following a brief illness. The former Lillie Thornton, she was born Feb. 11, 1886, at New Providence, Iowa. In 1914 she was married to Mr. Thayer at Denver, Colo.; he died in 1952. The couple had farmed in the Rock Valley area since 1935. Survivors include one son, Robert of Rock Valley; two daughters, Mrs. Ogden Childers of Sanborn, and Mrs. Robert Taylor of Pueblo, Colo., eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren"

November 1966 "Mrs. Olin Reinger had as her guests recently, Mrs. Robert Taylor, Mrs. Brent Ward and daughter, Regan, of Pueblo, Colo., also Mrs. Verna Childers of Sanborn. "

1975 "Out of town visitors in the Billie Reiniger home last weekend were Mrs. Ogden Childers of Sanborn; Mrs. Bob Taylor of Pueblo, Colo.; and Mrs. D. Schultz of Charleston, W.V.

DELL

Del is in Sac County, Iowa in 1930, 19, with cousin C. N. Zalman 45 and Ava 35.

In 1940 Clay County, Iowa, Del M. is 29, teaching school - in Clay COunty in 1935. Velma is 23, born in Iowa, in Storm Lake in 1935.

SON OF ROCK VALLEY COUPLE BURIED AT SEA
Word was received by his wife, Mrs. Valera Thayer of Everly, that Del Thayer, FCM 3-c of the U.S. Navy and son of Mr. and Mrs. F.A. Thayer of Rock Valley, reported missing in action on September 22, was killed in action on board ship on September 11. After the first message arrived, a letter was received by Mrs. Thayer from the Commander of Del's ship, saying that he had been buried at sea on September 20 off Malta, and that the ship's captain had conducted the services.
Mr. Thayer at the time of his enlistment was athletic coach at Everley, where his wife now resides."

Robert "Spike" Thayer 1913-1995 is buried in Sioux County, Iowa # 21399611.

VERNA

Verna Millie Thayer and L. Newell Wisner married on December 3, 1936 in Denver.

In 1940 Arapahoe County, Colorado, on South Sherman Street, Robert W. Taylor is a life insurance salesman, 23, born in Arkansas, with Jessie 24 and son Larry 2 both born in Colorado.
In the same household are L. Newell Wisner, a grocery clerk, 25, with Verna 24 both born in Colorado. They have Del 2 and L. Newell Jr. 1, both born in Arizona.

One tree said Newell married Cleo Lorrine Ring 1930-1997 and had Michael Fred Wisner 1950-1995.
Leonard Newell Wisner, born July 30, 1914 in Colorado, mother Stipe, died in Riverside County, California December 31, 1980.

One list has Bert Thayer Wisner living in Pueblo, Colorado, relatives Rebecca D. Lassiter, Kathryn Hope, and Robert Roland Wisner.

Del Dean Wisner 1937 -1997 is buried in Jefferson County, Colorado # 31548187.

There's a Leonard N. Wisner buried January 1981 in Colorado Springs # 35171040.

Roy Louis Hewitt " wife was Nellie Catherine Stipe, daughter of John Aaron Stipe and Osta Margaret Ormsby. Nellie did not have kids but was much married. Before Roy, she was married to William E. Wilson, J.E. Deno, and Ernest McCrumb. The niece mentioned in a 1968 Colorado Springs obit, Mrs. Dallas Larson, was Viola E. Hewitt, daughter of Harvey Carrier Hewitt. There was actually another surviving niece, Ruth Hewitt Cook, but she remained back East lifelong and was apparently not known (or considered important) to whomever served as informant for the obit in Colorado Springs. The nephew mentioned in the obit was Nellie's sister Fannie's son Leonard Newell Wisner."

JESSIE

Jessie Thayer and Robert W. Taylor married in Denver on July 18, 1936.

In 1940 Arapahoe County, Colorado, on South Sherman Street, Robert W. Taylor is a life insurance salesman, 23, born in Arkansas, with Jessie 24 and son Larry 2 both born in Colorado.
Jessie died in Pueblo August 23, 1995.
