Nels John claimed a quarter in section 19, 8S 45W, Kit Carson County, in 1894, and Nels claimed one next to it in 1902. They likely are the same person.

In 1885 Republic County, Kansas, Christina Nelson is 67, widowed, John A. 41 and his wife Anna 39, Nels 15, August 11, Josephina 13, Tilda 7, Andrew 4, and Gustav five months.
All except Gustav were born in Sweden.

Belleville, Kansas "Married, on July 23, 1897, by Judge Jacobs, Mr. Nels J. Nelson and Miss Anna Peterson, all of Scandia."

In 1900 Republic County, Kansas, Nels Nelson is farming, born August 1869 in Sweden, married four years to Anna Nov 1875 Denmark. Carl E. was born August 1898 in Knasas.

1975 Belleville, Kansas "Elmer Richard Nelson was born on April 2, 1904 on a farm near Courtland, one of three children born to Nels John Nelson and Anna Christina Pederson. He lived in the Courtlahd-Formoso community all his life, attending the Parkhill and Courtland schools and farming. He enlisted in the United States Army at Fort Leavenworth and was discharged October 20, 1943. On May 3,1955 he was joined in marriage to Edna Kackley Whitley at Mankato, Kansas. One child was born to this marriage. On November II, 1962, Elmer joined the Methodist church in Courtland, where he was an active member, serving as treasurer at the time of his death. On November 24, 1975 he entered Republic County hospital and following a three month illness died there on December 12, 1975 at the age of 71 years, eight months and 10 days. He had been preceded in death by both parents, one son, one sister and one great-grandchild. Survivors include his widow Edna of Courtland; children Mrs. Beverly Barricklbw of Salina; Mrs. Wayne Allen of Formoso; Mrs. Kenneth Joerg of Formoso; Mrs. Kenneth -jGanst of... 16 grandchildren, four great­grandchildren; his brother Carl Nelson of Denver, Colorado and one niece, Mrs. D.C. Johnson of Courtland. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 15, 1975 from the United Methodist church, Courtland, Kansas, with Reverend Larry Harvey officiating^ Burial~was' in Courtland cemetery. "
