Harvey N. and Julia A. (Peterson) Jenson, 8 South 45 West



In 1900 Lake County, South Dakota, Fred Jenson is a mason, born March 1861 in Pennsylvania, married 16 years to Alta July 1866 Wisconsin. "Sidney" is 14, Elmer 12, Della 9, Elsie 7, Earl 5, Ray 2, and Fern four months.

Julia Adell Peterson, per one tree, was born April 10, 1887 to Lars Peterson and Bertha Erickson.

Bertha (Erickson) Peterson 1843-1901 is buried in Union County, # 156511567.
Lars was born in Sweden in 1838, and died April 28, 1928. He's buried in Union County # 156511634

Lars Peterson, one of the pioneers, of Union county, passed away Saturday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Johnson, south of Big Springs, following an illness of several weeks. Mr. Peterson slipped and fell on the ice during the winter and injured his hip and he was confined to his bed since that time. He was tenderly cared for by his daughter, who is a trained nurse, but he grew weaker gradually and the end was not unexpected.
Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Johnson at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and at the Baptist church at Big Springs at 2 o'clock with his son-in-law, Rev. E.R. Potter of Chicago, and Rev. B.L. Carlton of the Big Springs Baptist church, in charge. The church was filled with old .neighbors and friends who had come to pay their last respects to the aged man. Interment was made in the Big Springs cemetery.
Lars Peterson was born in Nas West Dalarne, Sweden, Aug. 18, 1838 and passed away April 28, 1928, so had attained the advanced age of 80 years, 8 months and 10 days. He came to America in 1867 when he was 29 years old and for the first three years he lived at Onawa where he was united in marriage with Miss Bertha Erickson Sept. 2, 1870.
He came to Union county in the early seventies, settling on a homestead five miles west of Hawarden and this place has been his home continually since then. Since the death of his wife 27 years ago he has lived with his children but the old homestead was always regarded as his home. When he came to Union county he united with the Baptist church at Big Springs and for many years he was a faithful member of this church but later he united with the Seventh Day Adventist church and served as a local leader of this organization.
Mr. Peterson was a man of keen intellect and was well read and he gained much knowledge through his extensive travels. He practiced his religion in his everyday life and his Bible was his daily companion. He was a great lover of children and one of his last requests was that he might, see his little granddaughter, Bernadine Peterson. He was a kind and loving father and will be greatly missed in the family circles of his children.
He is survived by one son, John. L. Peterson of Hawarden and four daughters, Mrs. Mary Neubauer of Wagner, S.D.; Mrs. Hannah Potter of Chicago; Mrs. Ida Johnson of Big Springs; and Mrs. Julia Jenson of Tioga, N.D. He also leaves 17 grandchildren to mourn his death. His twin sister, Mrs. Christine Ericson, passed away two years ago. All the children, with the exception of Mrs. Jenson, were present at the funeral.
Those from a distance who came to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Peterson of Boone, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Ole Nelson of Canton and D.O. Anderson of Viborg, S.D.

In 1900 Union County, South Dakota, Lars is farming, born August 1838 in Sweden, married 30 years to Bertha April 1843 Sweden. Mary K. Peterson March 1877, John Nov 1879, Hannah Mar 1881, Iola A. Aug 1884, and Julia April 1887 were all born in South Dakota.

"Harry" Jenson, a bachelor residing at Alcester, Union County, South Dakota, a bachelor, married, Julia A. Peterson, 21, also of Alcester, on August 12, 1908.
In 1910 Kit Carson County, Harvey 24 is farming, married one year to Julia 23, both born in South Dakota, with Ida May nine months old born in Colorado.

Harvey claimed two quarters in sections 2 and 11, 8S 45W, Kit Carson County, in 1913.

In 1920 College View, Nebraska, Harvey is a minister, 34, with Julia A. 32. Ida M. 10, Alta M. 7, and Ruth J. 5 were born in Colorado, Helen 2 and Ellen 1 were born in Nebraska.

Harvey is teaching in Williams County, North Dakota in 1930, 45, with Julia 42, Alta M. 17, Ruth J. 15, Ellen I. and Helen C. both 11, Dorothy P. 9, Fredonia M. 7, Norman and Norma both 4, and Violet F. 1.

In 1940 Bismarck, North Dakota, Harvey is working for the community college, 54, Julia 52, Fredonai 17, Norman and Norma 14, Violet 11, Josephine 6, and eight lodgers.

Harvey N. and Julia Jenson live at 1127 3rd in Bismarck in 1960.

Harvey 1885-1980 is buried in Bismarck, North Dakota # 124505514, son of Fred Martin Jensen 1861-1958 and Alta Laura (Bentley) Jensen 1867-1965.
Julia (Peterson) Jenson 1887-1963 is also buried in Bismarck # 124505515.

ALTA

Alta Marie Jenson was born June 3, 1912 in Colorado.

Alta M. Jenson, 23, married Dave Waldner in Brookings County, South Dakota on Maoy 17, 1936.

In 1940 Yankton, South Dakota, she's married to David Waldner, 40 born in South Dakota, a manufacturing employee. Her sister Ellen Hochhalter, 32, born in Nebraska, is with them, no occupation, and unknown marital status.

She died January 9, 1984 in Los Angeles County, and is buried in Yankton # 119162405, with Dave Waldner 1898-1974.

Their daughter Lynette Davidene Waldner, born March 27, 1947, married Michael Dennis Cardinale on September 18, 1971 in Fairfax, Virginia.

IDA

"Ida Mae Ramberg, 88, Baptist Home, Bismarck and formerly of 1325 N. 15th St., died May 16, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating.
Ida Mae was born on July 6, 1909, on the family homestead near Burlington, Colo. She was the oldest of 11 children born to Harvey and Julia (Peterson) Jenson. She was educated at various schools in South Dakota, graduating from Onaka High School in 1927. She earned a teaching certificate from the University of North Dakota, a standard certificate from Minot Normal School, and a bachelor of science degree from Minot State College in 1972. Her 32-year teaching career began in a one-room country school in Cass County and ended in 1974 after teaching for 15 years at Saxvik School. Ida Mae loved teaching and her dedication to education continues even after death, as she has bequeathed her body to the University of North Dakota Medical School.
She was married to Joel Ramberg in Williston in 1932. They were married for 50 years before Joel's death in 1982. They lived on the family farm south of Tioga and in Ray before moving to Bismarck in 1954.
Ida Mae belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church and was an active member of the quilting circle until she entered the Baptist Home in January 1998. She was an avid rock collector and was a member of Central Dakota Gem and Mineral Society. She belonged to many education organizations, including Retired Teachers and Delta Kappa Gamma, where she served as Northwest Regional Director for two years. She was also a member of Sons of Norway and A.A.R.P.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Carl Bartels, Anchorage, Alaska, and Lola and Clair Huwe, Bismarck; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Helen Pfeifle, Renton, Wash., Dorothy Dunn, Falls Church, Va., Fredonia Hemmerly, Tunkhannock, Penn., Norma Jenson, Hampton, Va., Violet Ochsner, California City, Calif., and Jo Dammel, Fargo; one brother, Norman Jenson, Las Vegas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three sisters; one son-in-law; and one great-grandson. "


DOROTHY

In 1940 Bismarck, Fred Dunn 26 is an office clerk and Dorothy 19 a chemist in the state laboratory.

Fred Dunn 1914-2008 # 51254251 and Dorothy P. (Jenson) Dunn 1920-2011 are buried in Fairfax, Virginia # 81394811.
Dorothy P. Dunn, age 91, a resident of Alexandria for 60 years, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the INOVA Alexandria Hospital.
Mrs. Dunn was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the daughter of the late Harvey N. and Julia A. (Peterson) Jenson. She was a longtime member of the Friendship United Methodist Church, active in the Womens Society, the Bible Group and other activities. She belonged to WASQUA, a square dancing group, the Campfire Squares and she loved to play cards and games. She was also a Champion Skip-Bo Player.
Mrs. Dunn was married to the late Fred Dunn and the mother of the late Janet Summerlin.
She is survived by two sons Floyd E. Dunn and Richard W. Dunn; daughter Phyllis J. Yuen; brother Norman B. Jenson; two sisters Norma B. Davis and Violet F. Ochsner; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

NORMAN

Norman B. Jenson is an attorney in 1960 Bismarck, offices in the First Natioal Bak Bluilding.
He and Vivian live at 211 Arikara.
Norman B. Jenson and Caroline M. Thomas, both of Nevada, married in Clark County on August 1, 1990.

Norman Bently Jenson 1926-2015 is buried in Boulder City, Nevada # 155130395. "PFC, U.S. Marines, WWII."
"Norman B. Jenson, 89, formerly of Bismarck, entered immortality in Las Vegas, on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015. Norman's life will be celebrated at noon PDT Saturday, Oct. 10, in the chapel at St. Jude's Ranch for Children, Boulder City, Nev.
He was born to Julia Peterson and Harvey Jenson in Aberdeen, S.D., and was a 55-year resident of Las Vegas. Norman served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was a retired entrepreneur.
He was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Norman is survived by his beloved wife, Caroline; his daughters, Karen (Bob), Brenda (Gary) and Bonnie (Ken); his grandchildren, Jenean, Karli (Bob), James, Jentrie (Jenny), Ryan and Justin; his great-grandchildren, Danny, Tyler, Chase, Justin, Josh and Vivian; his sisters, Norma (Hugh) and Violet (Len); and many nieces, nephews, and friends."

FREDONIA

Fredonia Hemmerly Silk, per # 186150786 died in Scranton Pennsylvania.
" Fredonia Hemmerly Silk, 85 of Tunkhannock died Thursday morning, Sept. 18, 2008 at Community Medical Center, Scranton, after a brief illness. She was born in Watertown, S.D., daughter of the late Harvey N. and Julia A. Peterson Jenson. She was married to William Silk for several years and was preceded in death by her first husband of 53 years, Kenneth Hemmerly Jr., in 1999.
She was a retired register nurse and a member of the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Bismarck, N.D., High School, class of 1940, and St. Mary's School of Nursing, Rochester, Minn., 1945. She was preceded in death by six sisters: Mae Ramberg, Ruth Smith, Helen Pfeifle, Alta Waldner, Ellen Hochalter and Josephine Dammel. She is survived by her husband; a daughter: Dorothy Coe of Freemont, N.C.; two sons: Robert of Tunkhannock, and Fred of Silvara; two sisters: Norma Davis of Springfield, Mo., Violet Ochsner of California, and Dorothy Dunn of Falls Church, Va.; a brother, Norman Jenson of Las Vegas, Nev.; eight grandchildren; two great granddaughters; and 28 nieces and nephews. "

RUTH

Ruth Jenson married Lauren H. SMith on July 12, 1937 in Union County, Oregon.

Lauren is a mill worker in 1940 Union County, 26, born in North Dakota, with Ruth J. 25 and Robert E. Smith ten months old.

Ruth J. Smith, 67, died February 1, 1982 in Spokane, Washington.
Lauren Hough Smith, born Feb 20, 1914, died Jan 6, 1988 in Lane County, Oregon.

ELLEN

Ellen Clarabell (Jenson) Hochhalter 1917-1991 is buried in Renton, Washington, per # 134194079, with Edwin L. Hochhalter 1917-1987.


HELEN

In 1940 Bismarck, North Dakota, Theodore Pfeifle is 24, Helen 22, with Rodney six months old.

Helen Pfeifle 1917-2008 is also buried in Renton, Washington # 133906830, with Ted W. 1915-1992.

They had Ted Duwane Pfeifle on July 15, 1942 in Bismarck, who died March 22, 2005 in KIng County, Washington.

VIOLET

Violet Jenson married Henry L. Ochsner on March 5, 1947 in King County, Washington.

JOSEPHINE

Josephine (Jenson) Dammel 1933-2004 died in Fargo, per # 84390534.
"Josephine (Jo) Dammel, Fargo, passed away on October 4, 2004 at Manorcare in Fargo.
Josephine Jenson was born to Harvey and Julia Jenson on November 18, 1933 in Woodworth, North Dakota. She grew up and attended school in Bismarck, North Dakota.. Josephine lived in Bismarck, Fargo, and Minneapolis. Josephine was a secretary for Job Services of North Dakota in Bismarck and the H.B. Fuller Company in Minnesota. She resided in Fargo for the last ten years.
