Alfred Fairfax, 8 South 43 West

"Alfred Fairfax, a politician, farmer and pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church in Parsons, Kansas, who resided near Peru, Kansas. He achieved political distinction in 1888 when he was elected to represent the 58th District, Chautauqua County, in the Kansas House of Representatives. Although few details regarding his single term are known, Representative Fairfax served as chairman of the House Committee on Immigration, and received praise for his service from both the white and black Kansas newspapers."

1882 "The colored Republicans of Kansas have held a State convention and nominated one of their number, Alfred Fairfax, of Chautauqua county, for congressman at large, and recommended him for the consideration of the State Republican convention. Kansas will have seven members in the next congress, four of them to be nominated at large. The central committee of the Republican party recommend each of the three present districts to nominate a congressman at large to the State convention. This will provide for six of the congressmen, and the colored men lay claims to the seventh.—Pueblo Republican."

Alfred 1843-1916 is buried in Parsons, Kansas # 68810691, with wife Sarah 1843-1915 # 142504972, which have nice biographies.
