1898 Silver Cliff, Colorado "The prospects for John Edmonds,
well known throughout this county, to become the possessor of great wealth
are very flattering, if the current reports prove true. He and a Mr. Gordon,
an old-time engineer on the Bassick mine, have owned some claims in the
Sierra Blanca district, near the head waters of the Huerfano river,
for some five or six years, keeping the assessment work up each year.
Other parties, it seems, believing the claims on this property had run
out, last summer relocated them, and by further developments have opened
up what is probably the making of a great mine.
The values are said to run away up in gold. Further particulars we
failed to learn."
