"Joplin News Herald August 6, 1965

Mrs. Rosa Lee Mathis, 81 years old, 2302 Murphy avenue, died at 2 o'clock this morning at Jane Chinn hospital at Webb City, where she had been a patient 10 days. She had been a Joplin resident since 1917 and was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a member of the Social Worker's Sunday School class.
She was the widow of Walter J. Mathis, who died in 1939.
Surviving are a son, James Earl Mathis, 1909 Bird avenue; four daughters, Mrs. Jess Cannon and Mrs. Ethel Harris, 1917 Murphy avenue; Mrs. Bessie Goss, Joplin route 1, and Mrs. Raymond Troyer, of Granite City, Ill., a half-brother, Charles Lloyd Dennison of Marshalltown, Iowa, 13 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at 1917 Murphy avenue.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Elder Floyd Nichol will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery under direction of the Mason chapel.
Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers and members of the Social Worker's Sunday school class will be honorary pallbearers. Friends may call at the chapel until noon Saturday, then at the church."
