David Dawson 1812-1866 and Arlinda Strawser 1820-1904 married in Ross County, Ohio on Sept 16, 1838.

In 1860 Fulton County, Illinois, David is farming, 47, Arlinda 39, Jacob 20, Franklin 18, Catherin e 15, Susan 10, Zedekiah 7, Drucilla 6, William 4, and EMMA 1.
David is buried in Bushnell, McDonough County, Illinois # 166157657.
He left to his daughter Catherine his Charley horse, and fifty dollars cash.
His wife Orlinda was to have the rest of his estage, with if she died the whole estate was to be sold and money divided amonng his children.

EMMA

Emma A. Dawson, 37, born in Illinois, to David Dawson and Orlinda Strawser, married L.S> Parsons in Black Hawk County, Iowa on January 13, 1895.


EMMA A. DAWSON (later married Lovane S. PARSONS). She was born somewhere in Michigan, or at least did she live there at one point. She graduated from the (Northwestern University) Woman's Medical College of Chicago in 1890, and would at that time be at least 21 years of age. She later moved to Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa, and established her own hospital there, specializing in electricity as treatment."

In 1900 Waterloo, Iowa, Emma , born August 1860 in Illinois, is married four years to Lovane S. Parsons Oct 1851 Vermont. His son Harry was born Dec 1880 in Iowa. Emma's mother Arlinda Dawson Nov 1819 Ohio is wtih them.
Emma 1859-1959 is buried in Waterloo # 80950708, with Lovane 1853-1926 # 80951107.

Lovane Shergwin Parsons, born Sept 20, 1852 in Readslow, Vermont to Elija Parsons and Nancy Bowen, a piano dealer, died in Waterloo on May 15, 1926.
"Lovane Parsons came to Waterloo in 1876 and on August 5th of that year established Parsons Music House. He began his store with one organ and one piano. Parsons Music House did both retail and wholesale business throughout the state. His first wife was Lillie Garrabrant who died in 1893*. His second wife was Dr. Emma Dawson, who he married in 1896."

"Emma Dawson (later Mrs. Lovane Parsons) was one of the early women physicians of Iowa and a resident of Waterloo since 1888. She attended Western Normal College , Bushnell , Ill. Later, she completed her medical education at the University of Michigan , Ann Arbor , Michigan . She received her doctor's degree at the Woman's Medical College at Chicago (later included as part of Northwestern University , Evanston , Ill. ) Dr. Parsons was once an associate physician with Dr. Mary Harris Thompson, whom some called the first great woman surgeon of Chicago . In Waterloo , Parsons was associated with Dr. A. Middledetch in the management of the Waterloo Electro-Physical Therapy sanitarium (an institute specializing in the treatment of disease by electro-therapy.) This was also called Waterloo Electric Cure. Married to Lovane Parsons, a local piano and music dealer, the doctor traveled extensively throughout the world. She toured Europe in 1928 and 1930, made a World Tour (including the Mediterranean , India , China , and Japan) in 1934 and, in 1938 and 1939, toured South America ."

ULYSSES GRANT

Ulysses, a traveling salesman , 36, of Ottumwa, Iowa, married Sarah L. Brunt, 27, daughter of Samuel Brunt and Rebecca Payne, on September 2, 1899 in Sigourney, Iowa.

In 1920 Springfield, Missouri, Ulysses is a tailor, 52, born in Illiniois with Lulu B. 42 in Iowa, Samuel A. 18 in Iowa, William B. 8, and Dorothe R. 5 both born in Missouri.

Ulysses Grant Dawson, born March 11, 1864 in Illinois, to David Dawson and Arlinda Strawsser, died in Pima County, Arizona on December 8, 1935.

He's buried in Sigourney, Iowa # 118947426, with Sarah Louseet (Brunt) Dawson 1871-1963.

In 1940 Tucson, Lulu Burnt Dawson is 60, with sons Samuel A. Dawson 38 and Van Brunt Dawson 27 born in Missouri. Van was in Boston in 1935, Samuel in Phoenix.

Their sister Drucilla Jane born about 1853 in Ohio, is married to Cyrus Rutledge 30, in Graham County, Kansas. She died in McDonough County, Illinois.
She's buried in Fulton County 1853-1927 # 37113314.
"Daughter of David and Arlinda Dawson. Jennie grew up on a farm in the east part of Bushnell, Illinois in Lee Twp, Fulton Co., Illinois. She was married to Cyrus Beacher Rutledge on Dec 23, 1897. They had two sons."

ONE UNLIKELY FOR EMMA

In 1900 Fremont County, Colorado, Benjamin Dawson is a miner, born July 1844, married 32 years to Emma A. Nov 1848, both born in Pennsylvania. Boniwith 27 was born in Iowa, Chan 20, Ralph E. 17, Daniel 13, and Maud A. 11 wee born in Kansas.

ANOTHER POSSIBLE FOR EMMA

1897 Columbus, Nebraska "Miss Emma A. Dawson, who has been teaching a successful school at Oconee, has been secured by the school board of St Edward for kindergarten and primary work. She is reputed an excellent teacher."

December 1901 Columbus " Joseph Dawson of Newton, Kansas, who was here to attend the funeral of his sister, Miss Emma Dawson, left for bis work as express adjuster in Kansas, Monday. Mrs. Dawson will remain some weeks and visit her sister, Mrs. George Scott."
Miss Emma A. Dawson died at her home west of this city Thursday afternoon, after a sickness lasting through two years, one year of which she was bed-ridden, and through all she has been a great sufferer. Miss Dawson was born in Jones county, Iowa, March 20, 1869. For a number of years she lived with her sister and brothers west of this city. She was a graduate ov the Monticello, Iowa, high school and also attended schools in St. Louis, Mo. She taught school in her native state, and, after moving to Columbus, spent one year as a governess and about two years as teacher in the city schools, and was compelled to resign her position here on account of sickness.
Miss Dawson leaves two sisters and five brothers to mourn her departure. They are Miss Jennie Dawson, Mrs. Bushman, Boyd, Frank Joseph, John and William.
Miss Dawson was a person of strong character. She did not make friends of all her acquaintances, but those who were near her were very dear to her. Her school work in this city is remembered kindly by all her pupils, who recognized her goodness of heart, true worth, and devotion to their best interests.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the farm house at 2 o'clock, Rev. Becker preaching the sermon, Mesdames Evans and Chambers and Messrs. Cornelius and Schroeder furnishing the music. Interment in the Columbus cemetery. "

In 1870 Marshall County, Iowa, Samuel Dawson is 32, born in Illinois, Martha 27 INdiana, Alexander 10, William 8, Grant 6, and Sarah newborn, all four born in Iowa.

Grant Dawson, son of Samuel Dawson and Martha Dent, married Amy Cope, 21, daughter of Joseph Cope and Sarah Brown, on January 21, 1891 in Marshall County, Iowa.

Grant, divorced, born about 1865 in Marshall County, Iowa, died in Marchall County July 7, 1937, insane, to be buried in Albion, Iowa.

ANOTHER UNLIKELY FOR GRANT

In 1870 Lucas County, Iowa, Wm. Dawson is farming, 5, with Rachel 27. Charles is 10, Rosina 8, Ulysses S. 6, John S. 4, Thomas 2, and James seven months.

William H. Dawson and Rachel P. Ruble had married in Lucas County on January 31, 1860.

They're in Lucas County in 1880, and in 1885 are in Edwards County, Kansas. Wm. H. is 62, Rachel 44, Sam 19, James 15, George 9, Orvill3 7, Annis 12, Arvilla 5, and Jasper 2.

In 1900 Delta County, Colorado, Grant Dawson is widowed, born January 1864 in Iowa, with partnets William Jan 1827 Kentucky and Rachel June 1842 Indiana. Louis was born July 1887 in Kansas, Nellie Feb 1891 in Oregon, and "Carrie" March 1893 in Washington.
Grant Dawson, 41, married Mrs. Mary T. Call, 29 on September 2, 1905 in Mesa County, Colorado.

She had married Oscar W. Call 1869-1904 buried in Chautauqua County, Kansas.

In 1910 Tillamook County, Oregon, Grant is 46, Mary 33, Melvin E. 2, and Margaret newborn. Mary's kids Erma L. Call 14, Robert J. 12, Marmie H. 10 were born in Kansas Anna M. 5 in Kansas and Arthur B. 5 in Colorado.

In 1920 Tillamook County, Grant is 55, Mary T. 43, Melvin E. 10, Margaruite A. 10. Mamie H. Call is 20, Anna M. 17, Arthur 15. Irma L. is married to Archie S. May 33 with two kids.

Grant Ulysses Dawson 1863-1940 is buried in Tillamook County, Oregon # 87169708.

Klamath Falls, Oregon " Anna Mae Dawson Lewis was born 9 Mar 1895 in Ellensburg, Kittitas County, Washington, dying 24 Jan 1980 (aged 84) Klamath Falls
Anna Mae Lewis, 84, Klamath Falls, died here on Thursday.
Mrs. Lewis was born in Washington to Ulysses Grant Dawson and Catherine May Woodyard.
Her early childhood was spent in Colorado. Her family moved to Cloverdale when she was a teenager.
She married Earl S. Phair in 1910. He preceded her in death in 1929. She married E. Gareld Lewis on June 30, 1925. He also preceded her in death in 1978. A son, Eldon E. Phair, preceded her in death in 1952.
Mrs. Lewis had lived in Klamath Falls since 1939. She spent much of her time in hobbies of fine needlework, ceramics, painting and writing poetry.
She is survived by sons, Richard E. Phair of Klamath Falls, 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren."
