Errold Grover Bahl(1894–1930)
"This community was shocked when news reached here telling of the death of Errold G. Bahl, who was killed in an automobile accident while returning home from an airplane landing field in St. Louis, Mo., Sunday afternoon last. No real facts have been obtained, the report being circulated that he failed to heed a traffic light and was instantly killed when he struck another car.
Errold grew to manhood in this city and was a favorite among his companions. He graduated from the city schools in 1914. In 1918 he began his career as a flier and as just a boy joined Ray Page's barnstorming group. Errold is credited with having given the now famous "Lindy" instructions in the art of flying, both having appeared at the county fair and fall festival. He was at one time connected with the Harding, Zook & Bahl Aircraft Manufacturing Co., of Lincoln, Nebr., later operating a plane for the United Fruit Company in Central America and after leaving the employment of this company operated transport planes in Cuba and Florida. He was in Honduras at the time of the revolution, at which time he was often under fire of the revolutionists, he having, just before his return to the states refused a substantial reward should he consent to bomb the capital city.
At the time of his death, he was operating a plane, as pilot, for the United Electric Company, between St. Louis and Basnell, Mo. Besides his wife and one child, he leaves to mourn his untimely death, his father, of California; a sister and one brother, also of California and his mother, who resides in Arizona. Mrs. Bahl will accompany the remains to Erie, Pennsylvania, for burial. Errold was 35 years of age. "
