Rifle, June 29, 1916 "With the arrival this evening from Salt Lake City, over the Midland trail, of a
dust-covered flivver, came the first authentic news of the wedding of Mrs. Chester K. Hampson
and Charles Stotts, both of this city. The bride is the widow of Chester K. Hampson,
former prominent merchant of Rifle and brother of T. J. Hampson of Grand Junction and Leander Hampson of
Salida. Bhe is the mother of four children. Mr. Hampson died in May, 1915.
The marriage was objected to by the father of the groom, who is but 19, but it took the form of
practically an elopement. The bride is 28 years old and is a splendid woman,
Mrs. Hampson had been working in the store some time before the wedding, and the friendsbip
ripened into the deeper ties. Mr. Stotts has been employed in the store of Hampson Bros. & Valdez
for the past three years and is a young man of many sterling qualities.
Mr. Stotts left for Salt Lake City ten days ago, ostensibly for the purpose of bringing back
to this city a car belonging here. However, when Mrs. Hampson was seen to board the same train,
it was believed Dan Cupid had taken a hand in the game. And such proved to be the case, as they
were quietly married in the Mormon capital the next day.
After the wedding Mr. Stotts and his bride started on the return trip to Rifle over
the Midland trail, and report a very pleasant journey over that famous route. The
happy couple will live in the handsome home of the bride on Fourth street, and many friends
will wish them many years of happiness."
