Audobon County, Iowa
"Gray is a station on the Carroll branch of the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad, and is situated on section 12 of Lincoln Township, near the north line of the county. The land was formerly owned by George and Fannie Gray. The plat was filed for record August 10, 1881. However, the road did not come until early in 1882.
The first to engage in business was William Johnson, who started a general store. William Stotts also started in the same line of business that season.
A postoffice was established at Gray, which was named in honor of the proprietor of the village, in 1882. The first postmaster was William Stotts, who was succeeded by W. R. Johnson, and he, in 1886, by B. Lebeck. . Jones and Seth Gifford had charge a short time."

"Old residents of this community were saddened to learn of the, died of Sarah Stotts of Audubon, who passed away at the Atlantic hospital Friday afternoon, April 23. Mrs. Stotts was born in Ohio in 1852, the daughter of Anthony Hanker (Hunter) and wife who were early settlers of Exira. She married Willis P. Stotts and assisted him in his business during his career as a merchant in Exira in the eighties, or before the founding of Audubon.
Her later life was spent in Colorado, where Mr. Stotts died about twenty years ago. Since that time Mrs. Stotts has lived with her sister, Mrs. S. A. Graham of Audubon, who with two brothers John Hunter of Guthrie Center and James Hunter of Hobart, Okla., are left to grieve for the sister gone before. The late Melville Graham, who was laid to rest last week, was a nephew. She was also an aunt of our fellow townsman, Willis (Bid) Workman.
Mrs. Stotts was buried in the Exira cemetery last Saturday afternoon after brief but beautiful services conducted by Rev. Shenton of Audubon. And thus ends the long and useful career of one of Audubon county's best loved women.

" Funeral services for Frank Stotts, 70 years old, a retired capitalist and a veteran, who died Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Prather, 518 First avenue, will be held today at 2 at the Evans funeral chapel. The services will be under the auspices of the A. Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. Mr. Stott was born in Illinois in 1846. He moved to Des Moines in 1869, where he married Miss Eudora Houston of Exira, Ia. Mr. Stott and his wife made their home in Des Moines until four years ago, when they came to Salt Lake to live with their daughter."

December 1956 Albuquerque " Funeral services will be held Saturday for Franklin E. Stotts, longtime diesel engineer for the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District, who died Thursday in an Albuquerque hospital after a long illness. The Rev. Robert F. Naylor will officiate at the services, set for 2 p.m. at the Strong-Thome Chapel. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
Stotts, 60, had lived in Albuquerque 24 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite in Santa Fe, the Disabled American Veterans, Hugh A. Carlisle American Legion Post, and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a veteran of World War I.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred, 2719 Vista Larga NE; a daughter, Frances Ann; his mother, Mrs. Meta Stotts of Hatch; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Crowley? of Sacramento, and two brothers, Lee Stotts of Hatch and Tom Stotts of Amarillo."

He married Agnes, daughter of (Per the 1915 History of Audubon) "George B. and Jane (Hutchinson) Russell, who were natives of Scotland and New York state, respectively. George B. Russell was a pioneer merchant in what was then a straggling village on the broad prairie. Some years ago he passed away in Audubon, but his widow is still living in California. They had four children: Mrs. Agnes R. Stotts; Charles H., who died in 1898; Mrs. Gertrude Nash, who was born on February 3, 1863, and James F., of Ft. Dodge, Iowa."

"Joseph L. Stotts is an Illinois man, and one of the chief lights of the juvenile metropolis of Sundance, where he moulds public opinion through the columns of his journal. He was formerly mayor of the town and is a lawyer. "

"Unable to rally sufficient strength to throw off the effects of an operation which she underwent nine days ago for relief from gall stones, Mrs. Carrie L. Stotts passed away at the Private hospital in Cheyenne at 1 o'clock this morning. The operation had given every evidence of being successful and only the low state of vitality of the patient is believed to be responsible for the result.
Mrs. Stotts had been a resident of Cheyenne only about a year, coming here from Sheridan, but her beautiful womanly traits, her whole-heartedness in the treatment of all with whom she had aught to do, won for her a list of friends as extensive as her circle of acquaintances. For the past several months the trouble for which she finally underwent the operation had afflicted her severely and caused her much suffering.
Mrs. Stotts was born in Maine August 31, 1862. She came to Wyoming as a young woman in 1888 and her first residence in this state was at Sundance. Surviving her now is an aged mother residing in Massachusetts and a daughter in Los Angeles, who is expected to arrive for the funeral."

The, died certificate said she was born in Maine, but did not know her mother's name. The informant was Miss Edith Snow of Cheyenne.
