"Gray is a station on the Carroll branch of the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad, and is situated on section 12 of Lincoln Township, near the north line of the county. The land was formerly owned by George and Fannie Gray. The plat was filed for record August 10, 1881. However, the road did not come until early in 1882.
The first to engage in business was William Johnson, who started a general store. William Stotts also started in the same line of business that season.
A postoffice was established at Gray, which was named in honor of the proprietor of the village, in 1882. The first postmaster was William Stotts, who was succeeded by W. R. Johnson, and he, in 1886, by B. Lebeck. . Jones and Seth Gifford had charge a short time."

"Unable to rally sufficient strength to throw off the effects of an operation which she underwent nine days ago for relief from gall stones, Mrs. Carrie L. Stotts passed away at the Private hospital in Cheyenne at 1 o'clock this morning. The operation had given every evidence of being successful and only the low state of vitality of the patient is believed to be responsible for the result.
Mrs. Stotts had been a resident of Cheyenne only about a year, coming here from Sheridan, but her beautiful womanly traits, her whole-heartedness in the treatment of all with whom she had aught to do, won for her a list of friends as extensive as her circle of acquaintances. For the past several months the trouble for which she finally underwent the operation had afflicted her severely and caused her much suffering.
Mrs. Stotts was born in Maine August 31, 1862. She came to Wyoming as a young woman in 1888 and her first residence in this state was at Sundance. Surviving her now is an aged mother residing in Massachusetts and a daughter in Los Angeles, who is expected to arrive for the funeral."
The, died certificate said she was born in Maine, but did not know her mother's name.
The informant was Miss Edith Snow of Cheyenne.
