December 1919 "Declaring that her brother-in-law Leonard Egley attempted to arrest
her on Christmas Day then beat her and hurled her to the ground in her dooryard,
Mrs. Pearl Blanche Egley is asking $10,000 damages in a suit against Egley filed today in the
superior court. Mrs. Egley, it is said, has been living apart from her husband for
some time. She charges that her brother-in-law exhibited the badge of a
special deputy sheriff and told her she was under arrest.
She said she demanded to see his authority for
making an arrest, after which he dragged her about the yard and
stated that she accompany him to the Alhambra jail.
She asserts that his acts were prompted by malice.
At the office Sheriff Cline said the matter had been
reported there and that Egley's badge had been ordered returned.
Egley's commission as a deputy sheriff was cancelled some time ago."
