" Mr. George Gallup passed out into the great unknown at the age of eighty-four years, ten months, and twenty-eight days when the grim reaper came. A man of strong vitality, he succumbed only after a long struggle to the cancer that almost caused his, died three years ago. The deceased was born in Eastburn, Albany county, August 6, 1832, and died on the morning of his, born day at three in the morning.
When he was about nineteen years old he came to Illinois and later moved to Iowa. On February 22, 1862 he married Miss Mahala Sherman at Granville, I11inois. Of the five children born to thls union, John, Nathaniel, Albert, Mrs. Mary Turner, and Edwin, four are still living, Edwin having died in infancy. Mrs. Gallup died a little over eight years ago on February 1909.
Besides the three sons and one daughter who survive him, there are eleven grandchildren and two great-ohildren. About thirty-five years ago Mr. Gallup came to Nebraska, and after a short residence moved to the home place about twelve miles southeast of Friend, where he lived until about five years ago, when he came to Friend.
Those who knew 'Gallup' as he was affectionately called, will remember him as a man of pleasant disposition, kind as a friend, and helpful as a neighbor. Mr. Gallup was a member of Doric Lodge No. 118, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, and regularly attended when his health permitted. He had attended a public service when he was present at the funeral of Mr. Chipman last February.
The funeral services were held in the First Congregational church and a large attendance was present , the Masonic Lodges of Dorchester and Friend atteridlng in a body, and also the women of the Dorcas Federation of the church.
Interment waa made in the Andrew Cemetery, with Masonic rites.

We wish to thank the many friends and neighbors for their klndness during the illness and, died of our deceased father and grandfather. We especially wish to thank the Masonic Lodge and those who sang.

KATHERINE'S FAMILY

In 1880 Saline County, Nebraska, Robert Furgeson is 31, Margaret Furgeson 32 Wife, Catherine Furgeson 9 Daughter, John Furgeson 7 Son, Sarah Furgeson 5 Daughter, Maggie Furgeson 3 Daughter, and Clara Furgeson 1 Daughter.

"Robert Ferguson was born at Baltquhldder, Perthshire, Scotland, Jan. 8, 1849. Was married to Margaret McFarlane in the year 1869 at Sterling, Scotland. Coming to this country in the fall of 1872, locating on a homestead near the center of Saline County, where he lived until seven years ago. Since that time he has made his home with his son John, where he passed away, March 2, 1924, at the age of 75 years, 1 month, 23 days. His wife preceded him to the life beyond thirty-two years ago To this union ten children were born to mourn his loss, one child dying in infancy. Those left:Mrs. John Gallup, John, Duncan, Robert, and Alexander, Manguret, and Clara, of Friend, Nebr., James of Dorchester, Nebr., and Mrs. Henry Roberts of Lincoln, seventeen grandchildren, and five great-grand-children. One brother, Duncan Ferguson of Brig Scotland."

In 1900 Saline County, Nebraska, John M. Gallup is farming, born NOvember 1862 in Iowa, married 10 years to Catherine July 1870 in Scotland, Ethel M. July 1890, May C. October 1891, and Ella February 1892, all three born in COlorado.

In 1910, John M. Gallup is 47, Catherine Gallup 39 Wife, May C. Gallup 18 Daughter, Ella Gallup 17 Daughter, and Andrew Kosherik 21 Hired Hand .
October 1912 Burlington " Mr. and Mrs. John Gallup of Friend, Nebraska, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Abbott nnd other old time friends during fair week. The Gallops are former residents of this county."

July 1914 "The Misaes Mae and Edna Gallup of Friend, Nebraska, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Abbott and family this week. The Gallups were former residents in this communiity and are well knows to the old-timers here."

In 1921 John M. Gallup was named in a civil suit to re-survey the boundaries of land in township 8 South 42 West.

February 1910 " A pretty home wedding took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Gallup Wednesday afternoon at 5:00, when their daughter, Miss Ethel, was united in wedlock to Mr. Reo Miner. Rev. Hamilton officiated. The bride was attended by Miss Clara Aitken, and the groom by Elra Miner. After the marriage ceremony, the bride and groom led the way to the dining room, where a splendid supper was served. There were about eighty guests present.
Mr. and Mrs. Miner will reside on a farm near Tobias."

May 11, 1928 " Ethel Margaret Miner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Gallup, was born near Burlington, Colorado, July 9th, 1890. She moved to near Friend Nebr. with her parents in 1894. On February 16th, 1910, she was united in marriage to Reo Miner. There were born to this union three daughters, Lenoe Gladys, Ella Mae, and Ruth Catherine. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Friend, Nebr., and active in all of its work. She was a loving wife and mother and centered her ideals of Christian character in her daily life, being kind, neighborly and a friend to ail.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, three daughters, her parents, and two sisters, Mrs. Mae Bartlett, and Mrs. Ella Krabs, all of Friend, Nebr., and other relatives and a host of friends.
She passed away at the Lincoln Sanitarium, Lincoln, Nebr., at 1:15 on May 4th, after a short illness.
Funeral services were held from the First Congregational church of Friend, Nebr., on Sunday, May 6th, at 2:30, preceded by prayers at her late residence, both being conducted by Rev. Ralph Pinkham, pastor of the church.
Interment was in Andrew cemetery."

ELLA

"John George Krebs, eldest child of Elizabeth and Jacob Krebs, was born at the family farm home east of Friend on July 21, 1883, and passed away June 1, 1947, at the age of 63 years, 10 months, and 10 days. He was united in marriage with Ella Gallup on January 3, 1917. To this union were born 3 children, Robert Cecil, who preceded him in, died, June Lucile, and Mary Elizabeth. He spent his entire life, with the exception of the last 2 years, on the farm home where he was born. At that time he retired from farming and moved to Friend.
He was a man of high ideals, lover of nature, and a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed many hobbies, his favorites were raising flowers and collecting stamps. In his youth he united with the First Congregational Church of Friend, of which he was an active member, until his, died. He was a member of the Friend Lodge No. 73 A. A., and Rose Standish Chapter No. 265, Order of the Eastern Star.
He leaves to mourn his departure, his devoted wife, Ella Krebs, his two daughters, June Lucile Krebs, and Mary Elizabeth Smith, his son-in-law Bernard Smith, his father, Jacob Krebs, one brother, August Krebs of Clay Center, four sisters, Miss Mamie Krebs, Mrs. Caroline Spence, Mrs. Aline Easley, all of Friend, and Miss Lucile Krebs of Ganado, Ariz.
His mother and two sisters, Isabel Blanchard and Tillie Krebs, preceded him in, died.
The funeral services were held at the Friend Congregational church on Wednesday, June 4, at 2:30, with Rev. Robert Embree in charge."

September 22, 1894
October 5, 1922 "The condition of John C. Gallup, pioneéer Denver realtor and president of the Gallup Realty company, continues te be serious last night, according to attending physicians at St. Joseph’s hospital. He is believed teo ba suffering frem an abdominal infection, and if no improvement is noted soon, an operation probably will be performed.
Mr. Gallup is the only surviving member of the first board of directors of the Denver Real Estate exchange, of which he was president in 1901."

October 29, 1922 "An antenuptial pact had to be set aside before Mrs. Marian F. Gallup, widow of the late John C. Gallup, widely-known real estate dealer, could benefit by the terms of a will, admitted to probate yesterday. The agreement was revealed when the will was presented in county court yesterday. By the terms of the document, Mrs. Gallup is made beneficiary to onefourth of the estate. A codicil was inserted in the will by Mr. Gallup, stating that he deslred the agreement to be set aside so that she could take and claim her interest in the estate. The agreement was drawn Oct. 1, 1914, - John H. Gallup, a son, is cut off without a cent by his father, the will reading, “because of money advanced to him and for reasons well enough known to the family and attorneys.” The value of the estate was not made public, but the yearly income is sald to exceed $12,000. Other heirs mentioned are Mary Gallup Howe of New York, a daughter; Lucy Gallup Rawn, Seattle, a daughter, and Clarke M. Gallup, Denver, a son."

February 8, 1920 " Announcement of the sudden, died from pneumonia of John T. Gallup, son of John C. Gallup, Denver realtor, at Rawlins, Wyo., at 5 o'clock yesterday morning was received in Denver by E. P. Gallup, uncle of the young man. Mr. Gallup's father was at his bedside when he died, having been called to Rawlins Thursday night.
Mr. Gallup, who was the manager of the Rawlins office of Taylor & Clay Brokerage company, was 32 years old. He was born in Denver and attended the city schools, having been graduated from Manual Training high school. He later attended Cornell University, until his health forced him to take a rest. Then he immediately entered business in the West.
A few months ago Mr. Gallup was discharged from the army, where he served almost from the outbreak of hostilities, leaving with the Colorado cavalry, which was later demobilized and its units placed in infantry battalions. He became a first lieutenant, and because he was especially well qualified as a drill officer, he was retained in that capacity at Camp Kearny, much to his disappointment, as he made several efforts to be sent overseas.
Five years ago he was married to Miss Dorothy Glidden, daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth Glidden of 515 East ‘Eleventh avenue, Denver. He leaves, besides his widow, a 4-year-old son, John Gallup Jr. Also surviving are his father, a brother, Clarke M. Gallup of Seattle, and two sisters, Mrs. Laecy Gallup-Rawn, also of Seattlem and Mrs. Mamie Gallup-Howe of New York City.
The funeral will be held from the family residence, 1985 Glencoe street, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock."
