He owned and operated a farm south of Morrill, Nebraska, from 1947 to 1987 with his wife Donna. He was a member and the Caller of the Jills and Bills Square Dance Club for 28 years, where they taught square and round dancing. They later divorced.
He married Marlene Lewis on 19 October 1991."

VIRGIL

July 5, 1951 Morrill, Nebraska "Military unenil rites were lield at 2 p. m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn cemetery, Morrill, for Virgil M. 1 Km glass, 36, of Lyman, wlm died of a heart attack Saturday morning while talking with some friends in a field eight miles south of Morrill. Cause of, died was said to be a heart attack. Mr. Douglass, a veteran of 22 months of fighting in the South Pacific theater during World War II, was past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Lyman and a member of the American Legion. Those two units conducted graveside services.
Mr. Douglass was born Sept. 21, 1914, in Burweil, the son of Fred and Blanche Douglass, who survive. The family moved to Morrill in 1923 and Mr. Douglass was educated at Lyman high schooL On Nov. 27, 1935, he was married to Madras Watson in Gering. She also survives.
Mr. Douglass was a member of the Lyman volunteer fire department.
Other survivors include four children, Clifford, Ronald, Dean and Phyllis, and two sisters, Mrs. Marjorie M. Slaight of Pasco, and Mrs. Viva Butcher of MorrilL.
Rev. Robert Jeffries of the Henry and Lyman Methodist churches officiated."
