Herschel Jackson, 7 South 51 West
Herschel claimed a quarter in section 34, 7S 51W in 1908.
August 1912 "The northwest quarter of section thirty-four (34) in township seven (7)
south, range fifty-one (51) west of the 6th Principal Meridian,
containing one hundred sixty acres more or less, according to the Government
survey. Was sold for the taxes for the year 1908 and purchased by Wm. M. Long
who, has made request upon the Treasurer of said county for notification,
as provided by law, so that he may become entitled to a deed.
That the said premises were taxed for said year 1908 in the name
of Herschell Jackson."
POSSIBLE - because the age, occupation, and timing all fit.
In 1880 Shelby County, Indiana, Herschel is newborn with Elijah 28 and Jane 26. Bertha is 5, Melvin 3.
Hershel E. Jackson is a merchant in 1900 Shelby County, Indiana, 21, boarding with the Jeremay Debaum family, farmers.
Hershal Jackson and Sina Sprulin married in Shelby County, Indiana on May 22, 1901.
Sina's father "Everett Spurlin, age fifty-two, former resident of Shelby county, died at his home in New Salem Tuesday evening at 6:15 o’clock. He had been ill for the past year with a complication of diseases and his condition had been serious for the last four months.
Mr. Spurlin was born in Shelby county June 27, 1892, the son of John and Sarah Miller Spurlin. He moved to New Salem in 1935 and operated a filling station there.
He is survived by the widow, the former Miss Dorothy Wilbur; one daughter and two sons, Sharon Kathleen Spurlin and Eugene and Donnie Wayne Spurlin, at home; one brother and one sister, Chester Spurlin and Mrs. Ollie Maple, of this city, and two aunts and one uncle, Mrs. John McCalip, Mrs. Sina Jackson and Ora Spurlin, also of this city.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m.. at the late home with Rev. William Knox, pastor of the local Wesleyan Methodist church, and Rev. Gordon Smith, of New Salem, officiating. Burial will be made in Forest Hill Cemetery."
1907 Shelbyville "Herschel Jackson, of this city, received a card
this morning from Walter Nading, of Flat Rock, who left this county some
time ago for Los Angeles, California. Walter was in St. Louis at the time
the card was written but stated he was there for only a few days
and intendied to proceed to Denver, Colorado."
In 1912 Shelbyville real estate transfers included " Herschel Jackson to Sina May Jackson, tract on Elm street, Shelbyville. $700."
There's a Herschel Jackson registering for WWI in Shelbyville, Indiana, born Nov 25, 1879, a clerk for Otto Kuth Fur Co of Shelbyville, wife Sina May Jackson.
In 1920 "Hershall" E. Jackson is 40, Sina M. 38, Helen G. 11, and Virginia J.2, all born in Indiana.
In 1930 Herschel is 50, Sina 37?, and Virginia 12.
Herschel E. Jackson, born Nov 25, 1879 to Elijah Jacksona and
Jane McGlenettie, died February 12, 1940 in Shelbyville, informant Sina.
He was to be buried in Forest Hill. # 16949002.
Sina M. Spurlin Jackson 1881-1947 # 16949003 is buried with him.
Virginia Kelso, FindaGrave # 81073796.
"Virginia J. Kelso, 94, of Osgood passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the home of her son in Crossville, Tennessee. She was born at Shelbyville on September 7, 1917 the daughter of Herschel and Sina Spurlin Jackson. She was married to Wayne Kelso on July 26, 1937 and he preceded her in death on August 1, 1998. Survivors include one son Jack (JoAnn) Kelso of Crossville, Tennessee; two daughters Sandra (Bill) Gloyd of Osgood and Sara Hatton of Indianapolis; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Janet Heidorn and her son-in-law Steve Hatton. Mrs. Kelso was a 1934 graduate of Shelbyville High School and was a homemaker. Virginia was long time member of the Osgood United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 29 at 1pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Ginny Hizer of the Osgood United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Star Cemetery at St. Omer.
Helen Jackson and Sewell Coulson married on September 9, 1934 in Marion County, Indiana.
Helen Goldie Coulson, born May 24, 1908 in Shelbyville, died August 17, 1997 in Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana.
She was to be buried in Forrest Hill Cemetery. # 95244687.
