" Soon after Colorado gained statehood in 1876, Fielding Steele and his wife Jane Brooks Steele moved with their family from Iowa to homestead along nearby Parachute Creek. They were among the early settlers in this area. Jane Brooks Steele died in 1891 and was buried on the hillside just east of their homestead cabin. Many of their 12 children made their homes in Colorado and the west.."

The tragic event occurred"6n;. the child's seventh birthday. The :driver of the car was a -man named Hans Hansson, who declared that the Fagan boy jumped from the curbing and raced in front of hla car. Death at the Tacoma General hospital was caused by a compound skull.fracture. Mr Fagan, when living in Chehalls, was employed by the Puget Sound Power Light Company in the operation of its inter-urban electric line. "
