Joseph and Anthony Barchak, 7 South 51 West



In 1905 Thomas County, Kansas, Michael Barchak is 55, Apolonia 49, Joseph 26, and Antone 22.

In 1910 Thomas County, Michel A. is 61, married 36 years to Apolonia 57. She's had eleven kids, two living.

1910 Colby, Kansas "Michael Barchak went in from South Dakota, in the spring of 1904. He took with him $1,800, for which he bought 480 acres, two horses, wagon and other necessary farm implements. In the following year he bought additional 320 acres, making 800 acres altogether. This land is worth now at least $15,000. Today he has ten head of horses, half dozen milk cows and about thirty head of cattle. He farms about 1000 acres. Gave one of his sons 100 acres and about 300 is in prairie. He hasn't had a crop failure since he went. He raises crop every year. He says that farmers themselves are responsible for crop failures, and the man who works the soil properly is bound to raise a crop. It may not be as big as other years, but he will not have a total failure."

1910 Colby "PUBLIC SALES. I will sell at publie auction, at my farm, on Sec. 16, Twp. 9, Range about 8 miles southwest of Levant, and about 12 miles southeast of lirewster, beginning at 10 o'clock a. m. sharp on Friday. Aujru6t 12th. 1910, the following described property: 8 head of horses consisting of 1 black mare in foal, 13 years old; 2 geldings, 13 years old; 1 gelding, 6 years old; 2 horse colts, 1 year old; 1 yearling mare colt, and 1 two year old colt. 18 head of cattle consisting of 7 milch cows; 1 two year old heifer; 1 red bull, 4 years old; 6 yearling calves and 4 spring calves. Farm Implements consisting of 1 McCormick header, 1 Hodges header, riding liBter, 1 mower, 1 rake, 1 4-disc plow, 1 gang plow with breaking attachment, 2 walking plows, 1 harrow with 16 discs, 1 riding cultivator, 1 walking cultivator, 1 two section harrow, 1 weed cutter, Hand roller, 1 feed grinder, 1 grind stone, 2 header barges, blacksmith tools and other tools. 1 Empire cream separator, 1 incubator, 1 sewing machine, 3 sets of double harness, and about 12 dozen chickens. Also some household furniture. Free lunch at noon. Bring your tin cups. Terms of Sale: All sums of $10 and under, cash. On sums over $10 a credit of 14 months time will be given, purchaser to give approved notes bearing 10 per cent interest. 5 per cent discount for cash on time sales. Michal Barczak 1849-1913, dying in Lawrence County, Missouri, is buried in Barry County, Missouri # 17377097.
His death certificate says he was born Feb 15, 1875 in Poland to Mikel Barchak and Apolonia Wendrowicz. The informant was Tony Barchak.
Apolonia 1855-1933 is also buried there # 17377130 " wife of Michal Barczak. Also married for a short while after Michal's death to Joe Nimsick Sr."

Michael's will mentions his beloved wife Apolonia, giving her land, and to his wife Pelagie Barchak $1000. His son Anthony was to receive the land after Apolonia's death. He gave to his son Boleslaus Barchak the 55 acres north of Pierce City, where he lived.

In February 1912 the Monett, Missouri newspaper reported Apolonia Barchak and Joseph Niemzyk, both of Bricefield, obtained a license to wed.

In 1920 Lawrence County, Apolonia was 65, married to Joseph Nimsik 58 and his three sons.

JOSEPH

Joseph claimed a tract in section 19, 7S 51W, Kit Carson County, Colorado in 1913.

Joseph is in Lawrence County, Missouri in 1920, 41, with Annie 31, Albert 7, Leo 5, and Frank 1.
He said he immigrated in 1881, naturalized in 1912.

In 1930 he's still farming, 52, with Annie 39, Albert 17, Leo 15, Frank 12, Sephen 8, Elizabeth 4, and newborn Michael.

Joseph 1875-1932, dying in Springfield, Missouri, is buried in Barry County # 17377237.
So is Anna (Bartkoski) Barchak 1891-1971 # 17377311.
"Her birth parents are unknown. She was sent out from New York City on one of the Orphan Trains. She was adopted by the Bartkoski family."

Anthony claimed a quarter in section 20, 7S 51W in 1909.

In 1905 Thomas County, Peter Schvoda is 54, Susie 50, Paul 25, Lucy 20, Mary 18, Pauline 11, and Francis 9.

Peter 1849-1918 is buried in Todd County, Minnesota # 171369547, with Susanna 1854-1936 # 171369561.
His will left everything to his wife except a dollar each to son Paul, daughter Lucy Gschvoda Gruelitza, Mary Schvoda Bartzok, daughter Paulina Schvoda Bednoz, daughter Franes Schvoda.

Colby "Miss Mary Schvoda, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schvoda of this vicinity, was united in marriage to Mr. Anthony Barchak, at the Catholic church, Tuesday, June !!. Father Fitzgerald officiating. About (H guests were at the wedding, after which all repaired to the country home of the bride's parents, where a big wedding dinner was served. A dance in honor of the occasion was given in the evening at the schoolhouse in District No. 15. The bride and groom are well and favorably known and their many friends wish them health, and prosperity throughout married life.

In 1910 Thomas County, Kansas, Anthony is 28, Mary 23, with Stanley 1 and newborn Sophia G.

1922 Colby " Anthony Barchak and wife arrived safely at Pierce City, Mo., apparently, as we have an order to change his paper to that address."

In 1930 Newton County Missouri, Anthony is 47, Mary 43, Stanley 21, Sophia 20, Agatha 18, Maggie 16, elen 15, Katharine 11, John 9, and Anna 7.

In 1940 Newton County, Missouri, Mary is 53, questionable marital status, with Katherine 21, John 19, Annie 17, and Anthony Paul 8. They were in Thomas County, Kansas in 1935, except Annie who was in Lawrence County and Anthony in Newton County.

Anthony registered for WWII in Levant, Kansas, born Oct 29, 1882, with his reference S. H. Alexander of Colby.

Anthony 1882-1964 is buried in Newton County, Missouri # 17376702, with Mary Frances (Schvoda) Barchak 1887-1983. His death certificate had Mrs. Anthony Barchak as the informant, with Mary Frances Barchak as his wife.


Stanley Peter Barchak, born 1908 in Thomas County, Kansas, dying 2002 in Wentworth, Missouri, is buried in Newton County, Missouri # 17376804.
