Carl E. is 7, Lura E. 5, and Franklin E. 4 were born in Missouri, Estel L. seven months in Colorado.
John proved up a 147-acre tract section 19 in 1912, and another 147 acres in section 18 in 1913.
His brother George had a listing in the 1918 History of Colorado.

In 1930 John and Della are in Denver, living on West 35th Avenue.
He's a laborer in a cemetery. Franklin 24 works in a creamery, Clarance in a box factory, and Raymond 17.
In 1940 Jefferson County, Colorado, John is 61, a carpenter helper,
with Della A. 62. Their widowed daughter-in-law Nancy 35 born in Italy
is a packer in a cracker factory,
with them, and grandson Carl Leonard 17 born in Colorado is a janitor for the NYA.
