In 1850 Lake County, Illinois, George Hawkins is 67, with Lucius 21, Charles 19, George 17, Bernard 16, Malinda 15, Lorin 13, Lorena 13, Jacob 8, and Isabel 5.

George is buried in Lake County 1782-1860 # 161177361.

War of 1812 - George and his brother, Issac, both served in several battles at Plattsburg, Winchell's Bridge, Haarts Bridge and Pine Woods, NY.
George married ABIGAIL HERRINGTON 1 Oct 1806 in Washington, NY. George and Abigail had six children. She died in childbirth 02 Apr 1823 in Plattsburg, Clinton, NY.
George moved with his second wife, Isabell Stetson, by boat from Buffalo to Chicago with their family of 13 people in the spring of 1844. George and Isabell had fourteen children. Isabell died 08 Jul 1845 in ILL.
With the bounty land he acquired from his military service he built a log cabin and farmed in Chicago until he died in 1860.

Jacob was a private in C, 37th Illinois Infantry, enlisting August 1, 1861.

Jacob S. Hawkins married Adeline Starr on February 25, 1868 in Lake County, Illinois.
Cynthia Adeline Starr was born about 1847, living in Lake County in 1850 with parents Lyman 46 and Sarah 43.

One family member said that "Addie" died in 1877, and that Jacob then married Emma Emery in 1879 in Lake County, Illinois.

(There was a James Emory in 1850 Lake County, 42, born in England, with Caroline (Townsend) Emery 34 born in New York. William 12, George W. 10, James H. 8, EMMA J. 6, John A. 4, and Hannah A. 2.


One post said "Emma Anna Jane Emery was born 20 Sep. 1843 in Newport Township, Lake COunty"
In 1860 Lake County, James "Amory" is 50, Hannah 44, William 21, George W. 18, Thomas W. 16, Emma J. 14, John 12, Hannah 10, and Smith Amory 7.

In 1870 Lake County, James is still farming, 62, Hannah 55, William 31 farming, Anna J. 24, John 22, Hannah 20, and Thomas 17.

John Albert Emery 1848-1916 is buried in Wadsworth, Lake County, Illinois # 63556335.

William Andrus Emery 1838-1889 is buried in Austin, Minnesota # 21735662.)

The Hawkins family member said that Jacob had, besides Herbert, Cora and Etta, a child called Addie.

Jacob Hawkins and Addie Hawley had Herbert Delbert Hawkins on May 24, 1873 in Corning, Iowa.

In 1880 Lake County, Illinois, Jacob Hawkins is a stone cutter, 45, born in Iowa? with Emma 35 in Ohio. Cora B. is 11, Bertie A. 9, and Ettie 5, all three born in Illinois.

In 1900 Minnehaha County, South Dakota, Jacob Hawkins is a stone mason, born March 1840 in New York, living with niece Nellie Monroe April 1849 Illinois. Herbert Hawkins is a day laborer, born May 1871 in Illinois is Nellie's cousin.

1902 "Jacob S. Hawkins of Sioux Falls, a veteran of the civil war, has received notice that his pension has been increased to 12 per month."

Etta Hawkins is also in Minnehaha County in 1900, a servant for the Herbert Smith family and their dozen kids. Etta is single, born August 1879 in Illinois.

In 1910 Kit Carson County, Jacob is a stone mason, 72, born in New York, married but no spouse.
Etta I. Hawkins is on the same census page, farming, 37, born in Illinois

1912 Perkins County, South Dakota "Miss Etta Hawkins, of Miles City, is a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Riis."
Jacob claimed a tract in section 18, 7S 50W in 1911, and Etta claimed the east half of section 18 in 1912.

Jacob died March 30, 1927 in Minnehaha County. # 152760394 has him born May 11, 1840 in Plattsburgh, New York.

CORA

September 26, 1884

Cora Lytle is in Kit Carson County in 1910, 40, married twice, no occupation.

John Henry Lytle registered for WWI in Stanford, Fergus County, Montana, born May 25, 1879, a laborer, with nearest relative Mrs. Cora Lytle of Stanford.
He was in Crook County, Wyoming in 1910, 32, married seven years but no spouse, born in Kansas, living with hther Henry 75 born in Indiana.

Cora E. Lytle is in Fergus County, Montana in 1920, 44, born in Illinois, with John H. Lytle 41 Kansas.

John H. Lytle died November 11, 1922 in Judith Basin, Montana - crushed by a flywheel on a stationary engine in the coal sheds of the Great Northern railroad yards.
Cora was his administratrix, of his property of one Ford valued about $75 and a lot and house in Stanford of about $400.
His widow was Cora, with a brother Joseph Lytle of New Castle, Wyoming, brother George Lytle of Stockton, California, brother Thomas Lytle of Sundance, Wyoming, and sister Debbie Croy of Wispah, Montana.


With Etta in 1930 Kit Carson County is Cora B. Lytle, widowed, 59, born in Illinois, with son? Donald M. 7 born in Montana.

Both Cora Belle Lytle and Etta Hawkins are buried in the Flagler Cemetery (The infant Hawkins 1921-1921 is not near their plots.)

Cora Died October 17, 1934

ETTA

Etta might be in Big Horn County, Wyoming in 1920, a housekeeper for Fritz Grabbert 73, widowed and his daughter Emma 42 and son Fred 23.

Etta is back in Kit Carson County in 1930, managing a farm, 50, born in Illinois. Jessie M. Taylor is a lodger, 13, born in Montana.

(Jessie is probably the daughter of Charles O. Taylor 1886-1967 and Lenora Mae Gallipo 1888-1974)

With her is Cora B. Lytle, widowed, 59, born in Illinois, with son Donald M. 7 born in Montana.

In 1931 Sioux Falls, Etta Hawkins sold some lots to Albert Collins. She had bought them in 1927 from Cora Lytle Mitchell. In the same notice, J.S. and Etta Hawkins sold them to H.D. Hawkins....

Etta died December 13, 1934 (two months after Cora's death) and is buried in Flagler.

HERBERT

Herbert married Sarah Barhydt, and in 1910 Sioux Falls is 39, Sarah 25, and Vivian 1.

In 1930 Sioux Falls, H.D. is a sewer worker, 58, born in Iowa, with Sarah 53 Wisconsin. Vivian 22 and Carl 15 were born in South Dakota. Niece Daisy Baryttt is 11, born in South Dakota.
Daisy Nell Barhydt was newborn in 1920 Sioux Falls, with Louis H. 44 and Mildred C. 22.
July 10, 1931 "Co-workers of Miss Vivian Hawkins, who will become the bride of I. R. Robinson this month, met last evening at the home of Miss Opal Frederick, Pine Ridge Acreages, east of town for an evening of music and games out-of-doors."

Herbert D. Hawkins 1872-1950 is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls # 155479014, with Sarah Lorainne Hawkins 1877-1942.


Vivian Robinsons, born October 13, 1907, died in April 1986, buried in Woodlawn # 141019377, with Irwin R. Robinson 1904-1998.

Carl H. Hawkins 1915-1991 is buried in Sioux Falls # 76395149.

Edithe Mae Brenden was born September 15, 1936 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Carl and Virginia (Kraft) Hawkins. She grew up attending schools in Sioux Falls and Harrisburg. She served in the US Marine Corps. On May 4, 1956 she married Harold “Pete” Brenden at Pipestone, MN. They resided in Sioux Falls where she worked in the meat department at Sunshine Foods. They moved to Norfolk, NE where they were in the mobile home business until moving to Mitchell in 1975 and remained in the mobile home business for another twenty-five years. Edithe loved spending time with her family at the cabin in Oacoma, being in the outdoors, fishing and her dogs.
She is survived by four children: Nancy K. (Edgar) Baker, Tammie (Larry) DeJong, Rocky (Diane) Brenden, all of Mitchell and Brian “Skip” (Colleen) Brenden of Pukwana, one brother, Jacob (Mavis) Hawkins of Sioux Falls, 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Pete, son, Dale in infancy and brother, Kenneth.
