Anna's father # 25249941 says: elected the first Mayor of St Cloud. He was afterwards re-elected and help the same office until his indisposition forced him to resign. Under his administration St. Cloud grew from a few scattered houses, to a city of 3,000 inhabitants. Brother Colvin was a man of superior executive ability, and occupied many public offices, with credit to himself. He was the first County Superintendent of Decatur County, Kansas and afterwards County Clerk of the same county. He was the first Post Commander of the G. A. R. Post of the city of Oberlin, Decatur County, Kansas and served with the 72nd Ill Infantry. Early in the Sixties, when a mere boy, he shouldered the musket and went to the service of his county for three years. He was wounded at the battle of Franklin, December 14, 1864, and it is supposed these wounds were indirectly the cause of his death. He was joined in the bonds of holy matrimony to Frances Caroline Pelton, on October 15, 1866, at Barrington, Illinois. Shortly after the close of the war, he was made a Mason. He was buried on October 22, 1913 in due form at Mount Peace Cemetery St. Cloud, Florida, by St. Cloud Lodge, U. D. F. and A. M. Frances G. Colvin 1847-1920 is buried in the same cemetery # 58184788. |
