"Leroy was born to Roy and Mary Woofter in Stockton, California. Leroy grew up in California's San Joaquin Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area. After graduating from Fremont High School in Oakland, Leroy began a career as a truck driver. Leroy was severely injured in a trucking accident in 1939 and was unable to serve in the military after the outbreak of World War II in 1941. Leroy's contribution to the War effort was working as a welder building Liberty Ships at Hunters Point in San Francisco.
Leroy met Dorothy Allen in San Francisco where Dorothy was a nurse. They were married in November 1942 and eventually had 4 children, David, Louise, Noreen (died in infancy) and Stephen.
They settled in the San Francisco East Bay Area where Leroy returned to truck driving after the war. In 1954 Leroy and the family moved to the town of Arbuckle in Northern California where they lived until 1996. They relocated to Paradise, California, where they lived until Dorothy's passing. He then moved to Southern California where he lived with his son, David.
He did farm work, drove trucks, worked for an irrigation district and the County of Colusa until his retirement in 1980. After retirement Leroy was involved with Dorothy breading and showing Himalayan cats.
Leroy was a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years. Leroy was also very active in Lions Clubs in Arbuckle and Paradise.
Leroy is survived by his children, David Woofter, Louise Fleharty, and Stephen Woofter; grandchildren, Sandra Syrup, David Woofter Jr., Stephanie Beck, and Scott Fleharty; great-grandchildren, Frances, Skyler, Darren, Matthew, Stephanie, Katelyn, Sean, Lauren, and Rebecca; Christopher, and great-great-grandson Julius.
A memorial service will be held in Arbuckle, California, with interment with his wife, Dorothy at Fort Jones Cemetery, Fort Jones, California at a time to be announced.
"
Milton Lee Phillips, son of William Henry and Rhonda Ann Phillips was born at Carverton, Pennsylvania, July 10, 1875 and passed away at his home in Burlington, Colorado on November 26, 1943.
He moved to Phillipsburg, Kansas with his parents and sisters in 1879, where his parents homesteaded a farm six miles north of Phillipsburg and where he grew to young manhood. He knew the trials and privations as well as the delights and pleasures of those early pioneer days.
He had four sisters, one, Mrs. Elizabeth Woofter, preceded him in death.
