Lyons, Kansas, April 22, 1897 "Elmer W. Rouze was born at Adams, Indiana,
February 11, 1871, and lived in that state with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Rouze, until 1887, when he removed with them to Kansas.
He united with the M. E. church in 1885, and was a deeply interested worker
and valued member of the Epworth League since its inception.
In '88 and '89 he was in the newspaper work at Cimeron, Kansas, after which
he taught school in Gray and McPherson counties, Kansas, and
Pueblo, Colorado. For the last year or more he had charge of the
Ridpath Lyceum Bureau at Kansas City, where he was engaged until ill health
compelled his return home last October. Since that time he has been
gradually failing until his death on Easter Sunday, April 18th,
at 4 o'clock p. m. He was conscious to the last and never gave up until
the morning of his death.
The funeral services were conducted at the residence, Tuesday,
April 20, 1897 by Rev. Ilanna and Maxtou. Mr. Rouze was a young man of good
business ability and exemplary Christian character, highly
respected by all his associates and with a large circle of business
acquaintances over the country by whom he was held in high esteem.
His death falls the more severely on his parents, and brother and sister
by reason of the death of his sister Dora, a little more than a year ago.
The church and the league have lost a valued and honored member; the community an exemplary
and promising citizen, and the good and the true an ardent defender
and staunch supporter. His many friends tender to the bereaved family
their sincere sympathy in this their time of severe affliction,
for the loss of a loving son and brother, whose many virtues
and noble christian character endeared him not only to the home circle,
but to the community as well."
