July 24, 1919 Glen ELder, Kansas "Grandma Oliver was numbered among the old
residents of this city. She was born September 17, 1840 and was married to
Richard Oliver in 1855. In 1861 she moved with her husband to Kansas,
and for the past thirty years had made her home in this city.
She was a fine Christian lady who had meny friends, and news of her death came as
a shock to all who knew her. She was the mother of fourteen children,
nine sons and five daughters. Nine of the children had preceeded her to the great,
beyond. In 1886 she became a member of the Christian church and lived a faithful
and consistent life. Five sons, namely, Oscar, Cyrus, Charles, John and James,
are left with nineteen grand-children and four great grand-children and scores
of friends to mourn her death.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by
Elder Robertson, and interment was made in the cemetery at the west edge of town."
CYRUS AND MINNIE
Glen Elder, Kansas, July 27, 1895 "A quiet and pleasant wedding took place in this city last Sunday at
12 o'clock, when C. E. Oliver and Miss Minnie Sweet, both of this city, were united in the holy bonds
of matrimony, Rev. G. M. Glick tying the nuptual knot. The newly wedded couple have a large circle
of friends in this city who wish them happiness and prosperity through life.
The wedding ceremony took place at the bride's home iu this city, and only a few relatives and
friends were present. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver will make their home on the old Donnelly farm west of town."
