Frank R. Norton, born May 14, 1870 in Michigan to Fregrace Norton and Martha Bincraft, both of Ohio, a railroad engineer, died July 16, 1918 in La Porte County, Indiana.
"Despondency brought on by long suffering from cancer of the jaw caused Frank R. Norton, 48 years old, to end his life Monday at his home, 809 La porte avenue, according to the verdict rendered to-day by Coroner T. J. Swants. Mr. Norton was found dead in bed at noon yesterday by his wife, death being due to gas which was escaping from the opened gas jet in his bedroom. Mr. Norton had been accustomed to sleeping late and Mrs. Norton did not enter the room until she went upstairs with the intention of waking him. She smelled gas before reaching the room and upon discovering her husband, immediately called a physician, but the man had apparently been dead for some time. He is survived by his wife, Vinnia, two children, Mrs. Walter Soott of South Bend, and Mrs. Harry Reymore, of Cheyenne, Wyo. a brother, Z. Norton, of this city, and two sisters: Mrs. Anna McGlinsey and Mrs. Emma Hooley, both of Columbus, O., also survive. Mr. Norton was born in Michigan May 14, 1870, and was employed as a railroad engineer previous to his illness.
He was married to Miss Vihnia Taylor July 19, 1891, at Bridgman, Mich. Short funeral services will be held at this residence Thursday at 8 a. m.. Rev. James Gardiner, D. D., pastor of St. Pauls M. E. churcn. officiating. The body will be taken to Bridgman at 8:20 a. m.. where funeral services and burial will be held."

" Melvin Russell Barnett, a U.S. navy master chief sonar technician who retired with 20 years of service, died Dec. 3, 1983 In Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital. He was 64. He was born In Wichita, Kan., and lived In Escondido for 11 years. He was a member of the Escondido Fleet Reserve Association and the Hidden Valley Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean; sons Melvin Leroy and Ronald Eugene Barnett, both of Colorado; daughter Judy Ellen Waites of Colorado; brother Paul Barnett of Colorado; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hidden Valley Christian Church with the Rev. John Sandusky officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Hidden Valley Christian Church. San Marcos Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. "

December 1914 "R. C. Griffith of Omaha, Nebraska, and sister, Mrs. F. J. Norton of Wiota, Iowa, were here this week visiting their sister, Mrs. Della Winder, our county superintendent of schools. Mrs. Norton has several local land deals on hand, as usual."

October 1916 "Mrs. Della Winder, our efficient superintendent of schools, who was injured a week ago by a fall on the cellar steps at her home, was brought home from her school duties at Clifford yesterday morning, suffering severely, but under skillful medical treatment, she is now improving, we are pleased to say. Her sister, Mrs. Frank Norton, arrived from Iowa yesterday to be at her bedside, and her daughter, Miss Grace, was called home from her school."

August 1920 "Mrs. Della Winder underwent a serious operation at the Parker hospital this morning. Her sisters, Mrs. Frank Norton of Nebraska, and Mrs. Anna Porch of Anita, Iowa, have arrived here to be at her bedside."
