Lucretia Taylor Glandon Dunlavy BIRTH 10 Mar 1829 Uhrichsville, Tuscarawas County, Ohio, DEATH 28 May 1903 Holdrege, Phelps County, Nebraska, BURIAL White Oak Cemetery Wayland, Schuyler County, Illinois, MEMORIAL ID 93371620.

"Lucretia Taylor Glandon was born in Harrison county, Ohio, March 10th, 1829. Here in happy childhood and youth she lived. Here she blossomed into womanhood. Here Feb 21, 1850 she was married to James Dunlavy, consummating a union of precious love and happiness which lasted within a few days of nineteen years. It was here too that in a blessed revival in Mt Zion church, she and her husband about four years after their marriage, were happily converted and became members of the M. E. church, the church of her choice and of which she was a faithful and helpful member to the day of her death.
In 1853[sic - probably 1857] she with her family, sailed down the Ohio, up the Mississippi, and then up the Illinois river. The family finally settled in Schuyler County, Ill., Dec 16th, 1857.Here eleven years later, Jan 19th, 1869 the noble husband and companion was buried.
Thus at forty she was left a widow with a family of ten children to support, the oldest a son of eighteen the day his father was buried
With Christian courage and faith she undertook the task and so well did her part, so faithfully administered and completed her trust that she raised a family to honor her name by integral worth, and righteous life. Her children rise up and call her blessed.
The family moved to Holdrege, Nebr., in 1891, arriving here Oct. 16th. This has been her home ever since, and it is a compliment of highest order that those who know her best speak highest in her praise. For several years past her health has been poor. She has been a great sufferer. I visited her a number of times, but never heard her complain. Her last sickness was for about six weeks, during which time she never left her room. The last two weeks she was bedfast. When we visited her from time to time, shut in from the outer world, and struggling with a diseased body, and yet so patient, brave and cheerful, we could but rejoice in the secret of her strength. Her faith was firmly anchored in the eternal and immovable Christ. Though much of the time she suffered intensely, she bore all uncomplainingly, patiently and with wonderful Christian fortitude. And thus she developed more and more a beautiful life, 'Hid with Christ in God,' so that her Christian graces were made to shine with increasing lustre, as pure gold tried in the furnace. The old age of a faithful follower of Christ exhibits a true 'light at eventide.' It was impressively and emphatically true of Mother Dunlavy."
"Mrs Dunlavy died May 28, 1903, (Twenty-nine years to the day and almost the hour after the death of her daughter Flora) aged seventy-four years, two months, eighteen days. Two sons and five daughters, all of whom were at her bedside except a daughter who resides in Illinois, besides many grandchildren mourn her loss. But they can all turn away from the somber thoughts of death and separation, which always cause pangs of sorrow and loneliness, and can think of her in the better world, having entered into real life among the redeemed and triumphant of Heaven. A noble mother has gone to her reward. The funeral services were held at her late home, where she and her daughter, Mrs Jones have resided since coming to Holdrege, Friday morning May 29th, at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev A P Beall, her pastor, assisted by Rev John Thomas, a former pastor. There was a good attendance in spite of the rain, and the services were impressive and comforting. The remains were taken to Schuyler county, Ill., for burial, and will sleep by the side of the long lamented husband. They were accompanied by the two sons. They started on the noon train Friday. Burial to take place Sunday."
