William M. and Ada (Brown) Stephan, 7 South 45 West
In 1875 Nemaha County, Kansas, J. C. Stephan is 41, Elizabeth 35, George 13, Henry 11, Chas 9, Anna 6, and Wm. 3.
1903 Atwood, Kansas "Dr. J. J. Stephan of Soldier was
in the city Tuesday on his way to Denver, Colo., where he has property interests. "
August 1905 Salina, Kansas "Dr. J. J. Stephan and
Mr. William M. Stephan of Denver, Colorado,
were in the city yesterday.
These gentlemen are touring Kansas in an auto mobile.
They were three days out of Denver. They expected to arrive
in Salina Monday at noon, but were delayed near Hays City
by an accident. There was a particularly good bit of road
just west of Hays and they were racing with a Union Pacific
train when they struck a culvert which was raised several
inches. The machine bounced into the air several feet and
when stopped it was found that ihe front spring was broken.
Dr. Stephan said that he was very well satisfied with the
speed they are making. The roads out of Denver east are
very poor and the first day's journed had to be slow.
The car the two men are using is a Pope-Toledo, 24
horse power touring car. It is the car that established
the - record from Denver to California a year ago.
It was driven by Dr. Stephan at that time. He averaged one
hundred and fifty miles from Colorado to California.
The gentlemen will go from here to Wichita, thence to Topeka,
thence to Kansas City and will then return to Denver."
November 2, 1911 "Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Stephan mourn the
loss of their infant child. The funeral was held at the M. E.
church Sunday afternoon. The parents have the sympathy of the
entire community."
William proved up 156 acres in section 19, 7S 44W in 1912.
William proved up 160 acres in sections 24 and 25, 7S 45W in 1913.
His witnesses were James W. Clark of Burlington,
Arthur A. Warner of Hermes, and John F. Digman and Ferdinand Burnsberger both of Bethune.
In 1880 Nemaha County, Kansas, J. C. Stephan is a dentist,
46, with E. M. 46, both born in Pennsylvania,
Henry J. 16 farming, Charles 14, Anna 12, all three born in Ohio,
Wm. 9, Jessie 5, and Edison 2 all born in Kansas.
In 1895 Wyandotte County, Kansas, J. J. Stephan is a
physican, 25, Wm. 23 an artist, and L.C. 28 a carpenter.
September 20, 1921 Kansas City "Mrs. Elizabeth STEPHAN,
82 years died yesterday at St. Margaret's hospital.
She is survived by three sons, Dr. J. J. Stephan, Kansas City,
Mo.; George Stephan, Denver, and William Stephan,
Pine Bluff, Ark., and a daughter, Miss Cornelia Stephan,
Pasadena. Funeral services were this morning at the
Nugent funeral home, Ninth street and Minnesota avenue,
and at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's church.
Burial in Mount Calvary cemetery. "
Ada M. Brown is in Decatur County, Kansas in 1900,
with Isiah M. 49, Mary A. 36, Myrtie M. and Ada M. both 14, Omar C. 12, and Mary M. 10.
Isiah is buried in Decatur County, 1850-1919 # 69902905.
Alice 1863-1916 is also buried in Decatur County # 69902882.
April 1908 Herndon "Mr. and Mrs. Will Stephan are the parents of a baby boy born last Thursday. Mrs. Stephan is staying with her mother, Mrs. Mort. Brown. "
January 1909 Herndon, Kansas "Will Stephan was an early
morning caller Monday. Will had just received a card from
A. C. Mcintosh, stating that after a 5 hours journey he
and wife had arrived safely at Dr. J.J. Stephan's at
Soldier, Kansas. Mrs. Mcintosh stood the trip first class."
1913 Herndon "Will Stephan and family
arrived here Friday, overland from Hermes, Colorado
and are now spending a few weeks with Mrs. Stephan's
parents Mr. and Mrs. Mort Brown."
August 1913 "Will Stephan made us a pleasant call Wednesday.
He recently traded his Colorado homestead for 180 acres in the
fruit belt in northern Arkansas.
He expects to leave in about three weeks to look after
business matters pertaining to his Arkansas farm."
September 1913 "Will Stephan traded for the big Royal touring car formerally owned by J. R. Kirchner, Tuesday.
Will has had considerable experience in auto repair work."
In 1915 Herndon, Rawlins County, Kansas, Wm. is 43, Ada 28, Alice M. 6, and Pearl C. 4.
July 8, 1915 Herndon, Kansas "Will Stephan is building
a new photo gallery on his lot east of Mrs. Nancy Slocum."
"An eight and one half pound baby daughter was born to Mr.
and Mrs. Wm. Stephan, Friday, March 10th, 1916."
August 1916 Herndon "Will Stephan is suffering from a sore
hand and a sore foot, as a result of picking up the
wrong end of a hot iron, while helping Paul Brown at the
machine shop. In dropping the iron, it fell on his foot,
hence, the injury to that extremity."
William M. Stephan and Ada M. Brown had
John William Stephan on February 27, 1922 in Harrison,
Arkansas.
1919 Herndon, Kansas "Mrs. Will Stephan and children, of Pine Bluff, Ark., are here' this week, visiting relatives and old friends."
In 1930 Joplin, Missouri, William is a photographer, 57,
saying he was born in New York, with Ada 43 in Kansas.
Elizabeth is 14, born in Kansas, Opal 9 and John 8 in Arkansas.
1932 "Mr. and Mrs. Will Stephan were Neosho visitors Monday.
Mr. Broadaway visited in the Will Stephan home Sunday. "
He might be the "John W. Stephan" 1873-1939 buried in Oklahoma City, # 74451586
Ada M. Stephan, spouse John, died in Multnomah County, Oregon on August 3, 1968.
PEARL
Pearl C. Pledger is in Oklahoma City in 1930, 19, born in Colorado, with Sam P. Pledger 48 born in Alabama. Sam's son Wallace W. 18 was born in Oklahoma.
Pearl C. Pledger, born April 8, 1910 in Burlington,
Colorado, died January 7, 1983 in Marion County, Oregon,
buried in Portland # 142977384, with Samuel Paul Pledger 1877-1960.
OPAL
She might be the Opal M. Harp, 19, wife of James E. Harp, 41 born in Missouri. His son James A. Harp, 18, divorced, is livign with him.
Opal M. Harp, born August 12, 1920, who died May 7, 2013.
She's buried in Newton County, Missouri, dying in Ottawa County, Oklahoma # 110296626,
"Opal M. Harp, 92 passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Higher Call Nursing Center in Quapaw.
She was born August 12, 1920 in Pine Bluff Arkansas.
She worked several years as a companion for the Department of Human Services.
She had lived about half her life in this area coming from California. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors: four nieces: Carolyn Rollans, Joan Thompson, Donna Jimerson and Linda Roberts two nephews: Jim Jimerson and Eugene Needham and a host of other friends and relatives.
Opal is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Cotton Harp (1898-1983 # 148452361).
Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Peoria Baptist Church in Peoria, Oklahoma with Rev. Geoff Buffalo and Rev. Paul Case officiating. Interment will follow in the Seneca Cemetery under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home. The family will receive friends and relatives Friday, May 10, 2013 from 6-7 at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home. Pallbearers: Jim Jimerson, Jr Needham, Bruce Needham, Bobby Jimerson, Brian Scott, Devin Scott and Patrick Scott."
JOHN
John William Stephan, 20, a ditch digger, born in Harrison, Arkansas, to
William Stephan of Kansas and Ada May Brown of Kansas, married
Doris Lenora Fultz of Portland on
May 18, 1942. She was 15, born in Salem Oregon to Watt Fultz and Maude Conn , both born in Kentucky.
Mrs. W. M. Stephan of Portland was the witness.
John, born Feb 27, 1922 in Harrison, Arkansas,
died November 19, 2002 in Clackamas County, Oregon, spouse Floren.
He married Muriel Day in 1947, and had children Judy Loucks,
Candy Thornton, Cecelia Monroe, Jim, John, Clark.
Sisters were Opal Harp and Betty Clifton.
ELIZABETH
Elizabeth was born March 10, 1916 in Herenden, Kansas, named Sayers in 1937, Edwards in 1944, and Clifton in 1958.
She married Jettie Nord on July 7, 1932 in Oklahoma County.
Elizabeth Nard and Frank J. Sayers married in Oklahoma County on February 20, 1937.
Ada Elizabeth Sayers and Frank J. Sayers divorced in Oklahom County on July 6, 1938,
Elizabeth A. Sayers, divorced, born
in Herndon Kansas to John W. Stephan of New York City
and Ada M. Brown of Herndon, Kansas, married Sam B. Edwards
on December 9, 1939 in Clark County Washington.
R.U. Wiliams of 2112 SE 11th Street was the witness.
Samuel B. Edwards 1886-1965 is buried in Vancouver,
Clark County, Washington # 72242236.
John married Doris Fultz on May 18, 1942 in Clark County, Washington.
He died November 2, 2002.
Betty A. Clifton was living at 10 SW 42nd Street, Oklahoma City, in 1993.
Betty Ada Clifton, age 87, died October 30, 2003 in Multnomah County, Oregon, spouse Everett.
" Betty Ada Clifton passed away on October 30, 2003.
She is survived by her sister Opal M. Harp of Gladstone, OR;
numerous grandchildren & great grandkids; also many nieces & nephews. Betty lived most of her life in Oklahoma City, OK. As a wife, mother, and grandmother...."
BROTHER GEORGE
George is buried in Delta, Colorado 1862-1944 # 34103976.
"George Stephan, former lieutenant governor and long prominent figure in public life in Denver and Colorado, died yesterday at his home in La Jolla, Calif. He had been ill for many months. He was 82.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1882, Mr. Stephan came to Colorado when he was 19 and settled in Mesa County. He served his home community as city, county and deputy district attorney and in 1910 was elected to the State Senate.
He served in the State Senate from 1910 to 1916 and as lieutenant governor from 1919 to 1921. He was registrar of the State Land Board from 1921 to 1923 and U.S. Attorney from 1924 to 1929, when he went into private practice
of law in Denver.
Throughout his long residence in Colorado, he was extremely active in Republican affairs and was a delegate to the national convention which nominated Calvin Coolidge in 1924.
Mr. Stephan kept a houseboat in Florida for many years and made a practice of spending a good portion of each winter on the boat.
He and Mrs. Stephan, who was the former Helen Carr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Carr of Philadelphia, observed their golden wedding anniversary in
California in June, 1941. They were married in Delta.
During his residence in California, Mr. Stephan was active in Boy Scout work and was serving his second four-year term as a member of the San Diego Planning Commission.

Cornelia married Albert Cahill in 1904 in New York, and was divorced in 1940 California, dying in California as Cahill.
BROTHER JESSIE
May 1905 Soldier, Kansas " on a "Show in the Wild and Wooly
West" a Denver where Dr. J. J. Stephan is pictured as an
inventor and the article speaks three times of this invention,
the Stephan spark coil. We understand that the doctor is
doing well in the anto mobile business. 1 cle is
The country where we live. He speaks of Soldier as a
"smart, active and enterprising city." It is not often
that this little burg gets
its name before the people of the motherland. "
In 1930 Jessie Stephan is a physician in Kansas City, widowed, 55, with Clarnece 22, Esther 19, and Helen 16, all four born in Kansas.
He's buried in Kansas City 1875-1946 # 125838431.
