FLOYD

1936 "Information was received here Monday of the death of Floyd Myers, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Straley Myers of Powell, MO, who was killed in a motor car collision shortly after midnight Sunday at Wichita, Kan., while en route to attend funeral services for a younger brother who died at 10 o'clock Sunday morning in the Sale Hospital here. He had been ill of typhoid fever two weeks. Funeral services were to have been conducted at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon at Union Church south of here on highway 44, but were postponed because of Floyd's death.
The body of Floyd was taken to Pineville. Although arrangements are incomplete for the two brothers, double funeral services probably will be held.
Surviving, besides the parents are five other children of Mr. and Mrs. Myers, and an uncle, Cardin Myers, McDonald county recorder of deeds. "

LORENE

"Gladys Lorene Nicely, age 88, Joplin, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at St. John’s Regional Medical Center.
Lorene was born September 12, 1920 in Powell, Missouri, daughter of the late John S. Myers and Grace N. Woodward Myers. She graduated from Stella High School, and worked for Sears for over 25 years before retiring in 1981.
She married Winfred “Dick” Nicely on June 27, 1942 in Cassville, Missouri; he preceded her in death on March 26, 1995. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Geneva J. Waggoner, and three brothers, C. Eugene Myers, Floyd Myers, and William Ray Myers.
Survivors include her daughter, Patti Collins and husband Donald of Joplin; grandson, Jeramy Collins and great-granddaughter, Gabby both of Joplin; three sisters, Crystal Wicks, Pauline Pilant both of Joplin, and Shirley Bridgforth of Yukon, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Wilbur Nicely of Joplin; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Rocky Comfort Cemetery, Rocky Comfort, Missouri with her sister, Rev. Crystal Nicely officiating."
