ANOTHER POSSIBLE

April 1908 Fort Collins, Colorado "A jury in the county court yesterday afternoon returned a verdict of guilty against Frank Larimer, Hank Wilson, W. H. Hart and Peter Nelson on the charge of gambling, and a fine of $15 was assessed in each case. The jury was out about twenty minutes.
The men had been convicted in Magistrate Cooper's court, where they introduced no defense, taking an appeal to the county court. The trial lasted all afternoon. The defendants denied that they had been gambling. They were caught by Marshal Ryckman and his force in a room in the Milwaukee house on Jefferson street. The marshal came in through a window, much to the surprise of the gamblers, who, in their excitement, scattered money and cards on the floor. In their defense they claimed that the money, $ 1.30, dropped from the pocket of one of their number, who was trying to pull a knife out of his pocket to open a bottle of whiskey, when the marshal's appearance startled him.
City Attorney Lee handled the prosecution and W. B. Lymer and T. J. Leftwich conducted the defense."
