HENRY

Henry had Richard Walter Jones on April 8, 1887 at "Clairmont" Colorado - that was the area around Stratton, Colorado, Kit Carson County.
Henry claimed a quarter in section 18, 7S 45W in 1891.


Henry was born to Richard and Anne Jones on 11 Nov 1858 in Llanfair Neubwll, Anglesey, Wales.
In 1861 Richard is 39, Anne 41, William 11, Margaret 8, Anne 6, Mary 4, Henry 2, and Ellen one week old.

In 1880 Louisa County, Iowa, Henry is 20, a farm laborer, single.
He's working for David 27 born in Wales and Ann Hughes 26 born in Iowa.
Henry R. Jones and Matilda E. Davies married December 20, 1883 in Louisa County, Iowa.

Leadville, Colorado 1897 "Mrs. Henry R. Jones and two children of Florence are visiting in the city this week."

Henry married Mary Firkins on November 27, 1900 in Colorado Springs, age 42.

In 1910 El Paso County, Henry R. Jones is farming, 51, born in Wales, married nine years to Mary E. 52 born in Illinois, second marriage for both. Vida R. Perkins is Mary's daughter, 32, born in Illinois, and ruth is Henry's daughter, 18, born in Colorado.

1915 Salida, Colorado "Mrs. Owen Price, of Canon City and her nephew, Mr. Griffith, of Nebraska, visited their relatives, the Jones and Firkins over Sunday."

1916 Salida, Colorado "Otis Witcher with his gasoline hay baler is in the valley. He baled some for J. H. Holcomb on the Farley place, and is now baling a lot on the Kelso place for Messrs. Firkins and Jones."

March 1920 Salida Colorado " Mr. and Mrs. Jones, and daughter, Mrs. Vida Firkins, expect to go to Canon City soon to reside. Mr. Jones has sold his ranch to M. C. Page of Fountain."

In 1930 Fremont County, Colorado, Henry R. Jones is farming, born in Wales, first married at 25. Mary E. iwas fborn in Illinois, first marrieda t 17, both 71. Mary's daughter Vida R. Ferkins is 51, born in Illinois.
Henry is buried in Canon City, Colorado 1858-1936 # 114608446.
Mary E. (Haskell) JOnes 1858-1955 is buried wthere # 114609258.
Her first husband Lewis Edmond Firkins 1857=1920 is buied in Garfield County, Nebraska.

Richard Jones is living with his sister Mary A. Firkins in 1910 Garfield County, Nebraska, wMary is married to Willis H. Firkins 29, with daughter Bardette 1.
"It was only a few months ago that admiring relatives and friends gathered at the home of F. F. Hallock in this city to see two young people joined in life partnership and it was a happy wedding party that later gathered at the depot to wish the bride and groom goodbye and a God speed. With this picture still in their minds many friends were shocked the other day when the word came that the happy groom on that occasion had paid the supreme price to his country and that his remains would be sent back here for burial.
Richard Walter Jones was born at Tuttle, Kit Carson county, Colorado, April 8, 1887, and died at Camp Sheridan, Alabama, October 27, 1918, aged 31 years, 6 months and 19 days.
The most of his years were spent within the state of Colorado, he having lived at different places therein. During the years which he lived in Colorado, he united with the Methodist Episcopal church and has live a christian life since.
Nine years ago he came to Nebraska living in Burwell and vicinity.
On December 5, 1917, he was united in marriage with Miss Nellie Hallock. They immediately left for Canon City, Colorado, where they made their home until July 29, 1918, when he answered his Country's call in enlisting for services with the “Colors”
He was sent to Camp Forrest, Ga., and a month later he was transferred to Regiment 209 Engineers, Camp Sheridan, Ala. After an illness of three weeks of the Spanish influenza which developed into pneumonia, he was called home by the death angel on Sunday October 27, 1918 at 2:20 pm.
His mother died when Walter was nine years of age. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hallock of Rosevale, Nebraska, his father, H. R. Jones of Howard, Colorado, his sisters, Mrs. W. H. Firkins of Howard, Colorado, Mrs. Earl Ball of Winter, Canada, his brother, Charley of Hendrick, Colorado, other relatives and a host of friends, for he was a friend to every one who knew him.
His body reached our city on Monday evening and was given military burial on Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Hosman officiating. Interment was made in the Ord cemetery. "

Charles Tudor Jones is a farm laborer in 1910 El Paso County and 1920 Lincoln County, Colorado, single.
He reigistered for WWI in Kendrick, Lincoln County, an automobile driver, born April 11, 1885, wroking fro R. D. Doughlas. Henry R. Jones of Howard, Fremont County, Colorado was his reference.

Charles registered for WWII in Colorado Springs, born April 11, 1885 in Mill County, Iowa.
Mary Firkins of Canon City was his reference.

Sarah R. Jones and Percival Earl Ball married in Ord, Nebraska in 1912.
"Percival Earl Ball and Miss Sarah Ruth Jones were married at the Methodist parsonage. They were to live on the Harry Hallock farm in Rosevale."

In 1921 they're in Battleford, Saskatchewan, Percival 31, Ruth 29, and Delmer 7.

Willis H. Firkins, 26, and Mary A. Jones married on February 22, 1907 in El Paso County, Colorado.

Mary and Willis Firkins are back in Fremont County, Colorado in 1920, Willis working as a molder. They have Burette A. 10, Norrell L. 8, Henry E. 6, Vida R. 4, and Iba I. 1.

In 1930 they're farming in El Paso County, Willis 49, Mary 40, Norrel 18, Elvin 16, Ruth 14, Ila 12, Walter 9, Norma 6, Oliver 4, and Opal2.

In 1940 Willis is working on a ranch in Fremont County, 59, Mary 50, Walter 19, Nina 17, and Oliver 14.

Mary Ann 1889-1987 is buried in Canon City # 106027902, with Willis Haskell Firkins 1880-1953.

September 15, 1984 Colorado Springs "Elven “Firkie” Firkins, 1225 E. Las Animas St., died Friday at a Colorado Springs hospital. Mr. Firkins was a retired hammersmith at Aircraft Mechanics, where he had worked for 37 years. He died after a two-year illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 846 E. Pikes Peak Ave., with the Rev. Timothy Grassinger officiating. Cremation will follow.
Mr. Firkins was born July 12,1913, in Ord, Neb., and had lived in Canon City before moving to Colorado Springs 45 years ago. His parents are Mary (Jones) Firkins of Canon City and the late Willis Firkins. He was married Feb. 14, 1952, in Colorado Springs to Ernestine Retzlaff, who survives.
Before employment at Aircraft Mechanics, he worked in mines at Cripple Creek. He was preceded in death by a brother, Noral. Other survivors are four sons, Elven, Paul and Leslie, all of Colorado Springs, and Cecil of Selma, Ala.; three brothers, Burdette of Security, Walter of Monte Vista and Oliver of Fort Collins; four sisters, Ruth Foraker and Ila Matz, both of Canon City, Norma Swart of Las Cruces, N. M., and Opeal Bollingbaugh of Ohio City, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. "

"Oliver Oral Firkins passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015 in Fort Collins, CO.
Oliver was the son of Willis Haskell and Mary Ann (Jones) Firkins. Born August 1, 1925 in Canon City, CO. He joined the Army Air Corps and served in WW2 in the Asiatic and Pacific Theatres.
Preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, 1 daughter, and his first wife.
He is survived by his wife, 5 daughters, 1 sister, 14 grandkids, 14 great grandkids and numerous nieces and nephews.

THOMAS

"Thomas John JONES, son of Thomas and Sarah HUGHES JONES, was born 18 Aug. 1878 in Lancashire Co., England, and immigrated to U.S.A. with his parents about 1879. He married Katherine UNKNOWN MAIDEN NAME born in Nebraska whose parents were from Germany, and they lived in Seibert,18 Kit Carson County, Colorado, when his father died in 1904, Also, Thomas J. JONES lived in Joliet, Platte, NE, and he was executor of his father's estate. Other siblings of Thomas J. JONES were: Elizabeth B., Sarah H., Margaret or Maggie, Louis E. William D. [Willie], Sarah and Ellen or Helen JONES."

Possibly the Thomas Jones who married Sarah Hughes on May 3, 1874 in Bagillt, Flintshire, Wales....

In 1880 Platte County, Nebraska, Thomas is 46, farming, born in Wales. Sarah 37, Elizabeth B. 6, Sarah H. 5, Margaret 3, and Thomas J. 1 were all born in England.

Thomas claimed a tract in section 18, 7S 45W, also in 1891.
Elizabeth B. Jones, 19, married Richard H. Jones, 30, born in New York, on March 8, 1893 in Columbus, Nebraska, recorded in Platte County.

This Richard Jones was in Montgomery County, Iowa in 1885, 22, with parents Hugh H. and Elenor Jones, both 60. Hugh H. is 26, Thomas D. 17.
Richard and Elizabeth are in Montgomery County, Iowa in 1900, with Thomas H. 6, Richard A. 4, Lewis E. 1. His father Hugh W. Jones 72 is with them.

In 1910 they're back in Platte County, Richard H. 47, Elizabeth B. 36, Thomas H. 16, Richard A. 14, Louis E. 11, Bertha B> 7, and Everett R. 2.

Richard Jones - son of Thomas - is buried in Platte County 1862-1922, with Beatrice Jones, 1874-1933, daugther of Davida nd Sarah Joseph.

Sadie H. Jones, 31, married Richard H. Owen, 43, both born in England, on November 20, 1908 in Platte County, Nebraska.

ISAAC

"I am looking for information on my great grandfather, Isaac N. Jones and wife Sophia Mistress, who moved to near Filmer Co., Co. about abt 1889 (from 1937 Nebraska, Obituary). According to Off. Vit. Stats. Burlington, letter 11 Oct 1943. I.N. Jones made final proof of homestead about 15 mi. NW Burlington 9 Oct 1889. Daughter Pearl Mae (Mearl) born Kit Carson Co. 9 Jul 1889. Family returned to Joliet Township, Platte Co. Ne., by 1891. "



Isaac claimed a quarter in section 29, also in 1891.

In 1900 Platte County, Isaac is farming, born March 1860, married 16 years to Sophia born May 1862, both in Wales. David F. July 1884 and William G. Sept 1886 were born in Iowa, Pearl M. July 1889 in Colorado, Oscar H. Jan 1892 and Clinton June 1897 were born in Nebraska.

In 1910 Platte County, Isaac is farming, 50, with Sophia 48, William G. 23, Clinton 12, Newton 6, and Mary 3, all three born in Nebraska, David T. 25 in Iowa, and his wife Francis 26 borni nNebraska.

In 1920 Platte County, Isaac is 59, Sophia 57, Oscar H. 27, Isaac N. 16, and Mary 12.

In 1930 Colulmbus, Isaac 70, Sophia 62, and Marian 23 is a telephone operator.

Isaac is buried in Columbus, Nebraska # 21171438.
"A distinct shock to his family and friends was the unexpected death of Isaac N. Jones, 77, well-known resident of Platte county and Columbus for nearly 50 years, who died at 9:10 a.m. today, October 9, 1937, at his home. His death was due to a heart attack suffered about a half an hour before he died. First stricken with heart trouble two weeks ago when he suffered an attack, he suffered another several days later, but rallied from both of those.
He had been up and around the house the last few days, and was up this morning and dressed for the day, when he suffered a third attack. He lapsed into unconsciousness and his death followed in a short time.
Born on Mar. 5, 1860, in Wales, he came to this country when 21 years of age to join a brother, Robert, who was residing in Platte county in the Postville neighborhood. He procured work on a farm of the late David Thomas, and worked there for two years,
In 1883 he went to Clarinda, Iowa, and it was there he met Miss Sophia Mistress, whom he married on Feb. 13, 1884. They made their home on a farm near there until 1889, when they moved to a farm in Filmer county, Colo., where they spent a year and a half.
Moving back to the Postville neighborhood in Joliet township at that time, they resided on rented farms until 1921, when they retired and moved to Portland, Ore., where they remained for a year. Returning to Columbus again, Mr. Jones was employed for a few years as caretaker at Lutheran Good Samaritan hospital, and then became manager at the Fairmont Creamery.
In 1930 he gave up that position retiring from active work. He apparently enjoyed good health until two weeks ago. He is survived by five sons, Dave T. and Clinton Jones, of Omaha, W. G. and Newton Jones, of Columbus, and Oscar H. Jones, of Council Bluffs, Ia.; two daughters, Mrs. Fredlof Smith, of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Edward B. Sutter, of Columbus; two sisters that reside in Wales; 13 grandchildren and one great grandson. A daughter, Ruth Emily, that died in infancy, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Gass Funeral chapel with Rev. Ray H. Turner, pastor of the Federated church, officiating.

Mearl M. Smith 1889-1954 is buried in Portland, Oregon # 116106134.

Marion J. (Jones) Sutter 1907-1985 is buried in Clackamas County, Oregon, wtih Edward B. Sutter.

Thomas claimed a tract in section 18, 7S 45W, also in 1891. "
THIS IS ANOTHER THOMAS JONES

Thomas is a coal miner in 1900 Northumberland County, Pennsylvania 35, with Margret 33, Richard 4, and Arthur six months.

In 1910 Kit Carson County, Thomas is farming, 44, born in Wales, with Mary 39, Richard 14, Arthur 11, and Nettie 12, all bour born in Pennsylvania.

Thomas L. Jones 1864-1918 is buried in Stratton, Colorado # 38499859 "Telegram from Chicago stating he was sick and another telegram the next day saying he was dead. He died at Great Lakes Hospital at 9:00 pm, Jan. 5th"

Arthur William Jones, 20, married Effie Mae Pugh on October 21, 1919 in Kit Carson CUnty.

Richard T. Jones registered for WWI in Stratton, farming, born February 22, 1896 in Shomokin, Pennsylvania.
Richard is buried in Beaumont, Texas 1896-1973 # 103503879.
So is Dovie Rose (Bogle) Jones 1899-1967.
