In 1885 Richadson County, W.A. is 50, Mary 43, Robert 17, Ivan E. 14, and Asa 2.


Walter claimed a quarter in 32, 7S 43W in 1890, another in 29, 7S 43W in 1891, and another in section 32 in 1899.
Robert claimed a quarter in 29, 7S 43W in 1891.
He very well could be the Robert D. Way who proved up a tract of land in Yuma County 5S 43W in 1895, where Bonny Dam was later built. This was in the valley of the South Fork of the Republican River.
In 1900 Fort Collins, Colorado, Walter A. Way is a day laborer, born April 1835, married 38 years to Mary L. Nov 1841, both born in Ohio. Ivan E. is a day laborer, born April 1871 in Michigan, and William A. Dec 1882 Nebaska.

Walter died December 27, 1912 in Spokane.

WILLIAM

William Asa Way was born Dec 10, 1882 to Walter Andrew Way and Mary L. Smith in Richardson County, Nebraska, married Esther in Washington,

In 1920 Spokane, William is a well driller, 38, with Ester L. 28 and Willis 7. Ester immigrated from Sweden in 1910, naturalized in 1916.


In 1940 Spokane, William is 58, married but no spouse, a mechanic. Willis A. 27 is an elevator operator. Both were in Couer d'Alene, Idaho in 1935.
Esther is in Coeur D'alene in 1940, married but no spouse, wtih Wilma 15, Thelma 12 born in Oregon, and son Fay, 6 born in Idaho
William Asa Way registered for WWII in Portland, born at Falls City Nebraska.

He died December 24, 1944 in Portland, Oregon.

Esther 1891-1966 is buried in Coeur d'Alene # 68916704. So is Floyd Fay Way 1933-1953 # 68916177.

" Willis A. Way, born 1912, died March 4, 1993 and his wife Mildred Syrett Reed Way, born 1909, died September 1998. Both died in Pomona and are buried in Riverside National Cemetery. "

ROBERT
Robert Downing Way was born February 12, 1868 in Allegan County, Michigan to Andrew and Mary L. Way.

Robert D. Way and Myrtie L. Way divorced in Denver in 1890.

Robert D. Way of Burlington and Margaret Phillips of Ashland were married in Burlington by G. A. Yessin, minister of teh Christian Chruch, on July 18, 1897. Witnesses were W. A. Way and T. H. Phillips.

Thomas Phillips timber-claimed a quarter in 26, 6S 42W in 1901.
(Cassius C. Phillips had cash-claimed a quarter in 31, 8S 48W in 180)

In 1898 Robert D. Way bought 160 acres in Larimer County, Colorado.

June 1900 North Park - Jackson County, Colorado "R. D. Way family and brothers returned Wednesday from Fort Collins where the family have been all winter."
October 25, 1900 " News has been received here that R. D. Way and Dell Lewellyn had three of their horses stolen while enroute for Kendrick, Idaho."

December 1900 "Mrs. J. L. Ish received a letter a few days ago from Mrs. R. D. Way , who is located at Latah County, Idaho. R.B. is working in a saw mill this winter. He has rented a farm for next year and is highly pleased with the country."


In 1910 Latah County, Idaho, Robert is farming, 42, married twice, this time 13 years to Maggie 35 Pennsylvania. Verney 12 and Iris 10 were born in Colorado, Floril 8, Earl5, May 3, and Guy seven months old in Idaho.

In 1920 Douglas County, Oregon, Robert D. Way is a road contractor, 52, Margaret 45, Verna M. 2 a teacher, Floyd 17, Earl R. 15, May L. 12, Gary W. 10 in Idaho, and Donald A. 6 in Oregon.
Robert died June 14, 1954 in Douglas County, Oregon, spouse Margaret. He's buried in Myrtle Creek # 38170572.
June 15, 1954 "Robert D. Way, a Myrtle Creek resident since 1912, died Monday in a Roseburg hospital followmg a lengthy illness. Way was born at Wayland, Michigan Feb. 12, 1868, and shortly after moving to Myrtle Creek purchased a ranch at Boomer Hill. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. E. A. Shirtcliff, Mrs. R. R. Ady, both of Myrtle Creek, and Mrs. Verna Puckett, of Aplos, Calif.; four sons, Floyd Way, Myrtle Creek, Maj. Earl R. Way, Wichita, Kans., Guy Way, Brookings and Donald Way, Ashland; a brother, Ivan Way, of Spokane, Wash.; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Ganz Mortuary, Myrtle Creek. The Rev. Dorsey Dent, pastor of the Myrtle Creek Christian Church will officiate. Interment will be at the 100F cemetery, Myrtle Creek."

May 19, 1956 "Mrs. Margaret Way, 81, longtime resident of Myrtle Creek, died Thursday afternoon in a Myrtle Creek hospital. She was born in Johnstown, Pa., Dec. 28, 1874, and moved in 1912 to the Myrtle Creek area from Kendrick, Idaho. She was a member of the Nazarene Church and the Arbor Vita Rebekah Lodge. Survivors include three sons: Floyd Way, Myrtle Creek: Guy Way, Brookings; and Donald Way, Ashland; three daughters: Mrs. E. A. Shirtcliff and Mrs. R. R. Ady, both of Myrtle Creek; and Mrs. Verna Puckett, Santa Cruz, Calif.: two sisters: Mrs. Anna Welker, Clarkston, Wash., and Mrs. Martin McCullum, Edmonton, Alta. Canada; one brother, John H. Phillips, Ashland; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Ganz Mortuary, Myrtle Creek, with the Rev. Mr. Russell of the Nazarene church officiating. Interment will follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Myrtle Creek. "

Verna M. Puckett - born in Jackson County Colorado to Robert Way and Margaret Phillips, died 1991, buried in Myrtle Creek, # 38120568.

Iris was born Jan. 16, 1900 in Rand, Colorado which even today is just a wide spot in the road in western Colorado. She was the second child born to Robert D. Way and Margaret Phillips. Her family was on the move and would eventually end up in Myrtle Creek, Oregon and remained a close knit family. The Way children were: Verena Mary: May 6, 1898 – June 22, 1991 Iris Madge: Jan. 16, 1900 – Nov. 20, 1982 Floyd Phillips: April 11, 1902 – March 11, 1994 Earl Robert: Sept. 18, 1904 – June 28, 1954 Leona May: May 2, 1906 – Nov. 20, 2001 Guy Walter: Sept 7, 1909 – June 19, 1981 Donald Arthur: April 28, 1912 – 2008 The family had moved from Rand, CO to Southwick Idaho by the spring of 1902, when Floyd was born there. By Sept. of 1909 they were living in Kendrick, ID where Guy was born and by April 1912 they were living on Boomer Hill, just north of Myrtle Creek, Oregon. Iris recounted that they made the long trip from Idaho to Myrtle Creek in a wagon.
On July 31, 1919 Iris married Roland Ady. Iris and Roland wedding Roland, affectionately known as “Skinny” left to serve in the Navy while Iris remained behind in Myrtle Creek. During the war she did her patriotic duty as an aircraft watch volunteer. They made their home in Myrtle Creek and, other than Roland serving in the Navy, they remained there for the rest of their lives. They raised two daughters, Audrey Joyce and Betty Jean, in their house on Johnson Street.
Iris 1900-1982 is buried in Myrtle Creek # 38118690.


Sarah Armitage, of Ashland, Kit Carson County, married John H. Phillips of Ashland, on Dec 19, 1904 in Burlington. (Ashland was a post office in Kit Carson County 1890-1909)

John Phillips cash-claimed a quarter in 7, 7S 48W in 1891.
In 1910 Sarah is married to John Phillips, and they're farming in Nez Perce County, Idaho, married six years. John 32 born in MIssouri, Sarah 24 Kansas, Archie 4, Alda 2, and Cecil 1 all born in Idaho.
Sarah 1886-1968 # 66326529 and John 1877-1973 # 66326524 are buried in Ashland, Jackson County, Oregon.
