In 1911 Clara Pollitt, formertly Clara Wray, proved up a quarter in section 27, 9 South 4 West, witnesses Joe Anderson, James C. Pearce, Carman Pearce, and Henry Bermer, all of Burlington.

In November 1911 "The Byers School, taught by Mrs. Clara Polliltt, has seven pupils enrolled in four grades. Sketches, maps, and written lessons testify to the efficiency of Mrs. Pollitt's teaching. The pupils endeavor to answer distinctly and clearly. Plenty of blackboard space aids in supplementing the text books. Language, reading, and history are correlated."
