Joseph claimed a quarter in 22, 7S 42W in 1890.
He might be the Joseph Bay in 1870 Warren County, Illinois, age 4, with William 40, Rebecca J. 35, Wilma 15, Thomas 12, Rhoda 10, Lizzie 8, and Bessie 2.
In 1880 Warren County, Illinois, Joseph is (he's also listed with another family as a farm laborer ) 15, with widowed f R. J. 46, a dressmaker born in Pennsylvania. Rhoda is 20, Lizzie 17, and Bessie 11.

In 1900 Gage County, Nebraska, Joseph is farming, born August 1865 in Illinois, married eight years to Arvilla H. August 1868 Nebraska. They have Clyde January 1894 Nebraska.
They're still farming there in 1910, and in 1920 Clyde is not with them, but married to Amanda, both 25, farming.

Joseph and Arvilla are still farming in Gage County in 1930.

October 20, 1930 "BEATRICE, Nebraska - Funeral services for Joseph B. Bay, 65, pioneer of Holmesvllle, were held Sunday afternoon at the community church there, with Elder J. W. OL?? in charge. Interment in Evergreen Home cemetery. Mr. Bay is survived by his widow and one son, Clyde."

June 3, 1946 Beatrice Nebraska "Arvilla Hollingworth Bay, daughter of Joseph H. and Wealthy J. Hollingworth, was born August 16th, 1868, near Beatrice and died at her home in Holmesville May 22nd, having attained the age of 77 years, 9 months and 6 days. On Dec. 25th. 1891, she was married to Joseph Bay and to this union was born a son, Clyde W. Bay of Filley. Most of her life was spent within the bounds of Gage county. In early life she united with the Methodist church in which she retained a membership to the end.
She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away October 16th. 1930. Survivors are her son and his wife and two grandsons: Lt. John Bay, who is stationed at Philippine Islands, and Richard Bay of Sedgwick, Colo., two brothers, George and Tom Hollingworth, in California and two sisters, Miss Alma Hollingworth and Mrs. Aimee Worrell of Portland. Ore., and a number of other relatives.
Services were held at the Harimar mortuary May 25th. Burial was in the Evergreen Home cemetery. Pallbearers were Mark Maines, Will Lancaster, William Sorenson, Price Young, Hallie Andrews, Harold Giddings."

" While residing in Blue Springs Joseph Hollingworth was attracted to Miss Wealthy Jane Tinkham, and they were made husband and wife July 13, 1862. This most estimable lady was born upon the 26th of October, 1841, in Morrow County. Ohio, and was the second child of nine born to the Rev. A. L. and Sarah (Wilson) Tinkham. She was fifteen years of age when her parents removed to Benton County, Iowa, which was her home until about her nineteenth birthday, at which time she came to Nebraska, where she met our subject, and was married two years later. They have become the parents of eight children, whose names are here appended: Arthur J., Thomas H., Alma E., Arvilla, George, Albert, and Archie and Aimee, twins."


August 7, 1964 "Memorial services for Clyde William Bay will be held Saturday at 10 a. m. from Harman Mortuary Chapel, Beatrice, with Rev. Herman J. Heise officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice. Mr. Bay, 70, died Thursday morning at his home near Filley. Born Jan. 8, 1894, near Rockford, he had lived in the Filley community all his life. A veteran of World War I, Mr. Bay was a member of American Legion of Virginia, Post 367, and Temple Lodge 175, AF&AM. He was a retired farmer. Surviving are his widow, Amanda; two sons, Richard of Filley and John of Lincoln; and four grandchildren."

On June 21, 1946, Clyde filed a petition for Joseph's estate for a lot in Holmesville, saying that Joseph deied intestate in October 1930.


1943 Beatrice, Nebraska "John Joseph Bay of Filley was among 165 students of the University of Nebraska who were granted degrees at the end of the first semester. Mr. Bay received the degree of bachelor of science in agriculture. "

"John J. Bay, 87, of Lincoln, died Friday (5-23-08). Born in Beatrice, Nebraska to Clyde & Amanda (Jensen) Bay on May 20, 1921. Member of the Filley Methodist Church, he was a graduate of Filley Consolidated High School & the University of Nebraska. John received an ROTC commission and was called to Army duty in 1943 where he served with the 84th & 88th Divisions. He married Margaret Ward on July 10, 1943. At the end of WWII John worked for Beatrice Foods for 38 years and then retired. He was a Kiwanis member for many years and a Master Mason for 60 years. John was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud veteran. John is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Bay, Lincoln. Daughters & Sons-in-law: Janice & Robert Dean, Lincoln Rhonda & W.m. Lee Merritt, Omaha, NE Jodi & Jerome Blowers, Lincoln Grandchildren: Josh, Grace, & Camden. Preceded in death by: his parents, and brother Richard Bay."


Bessie H. Bay, born at Millenbury, Illinois daughter of William R. Bay and Jennie R Montgomery, married Charles Allen Guy of Springfield, Ohio in Powieshiek County, Iowa on June 28, 1893.

Wilma Etta (Bay) Ayers 1855-1913 is buried in Burke, Gregory County, South Dakota # 49720091.
