Harbin D. and Jane (Newby) Hobbs, sons John and William of Sherman County, Kansas, 7S 42W

In 1860 Tipton County, Indiana, Maria Hobbs is 43, with Werder 21, Sarah 17, Charles C. 16, Wm. H. 12, Mary A. 8, and Harben 22.

Harbin Hobbs married Jane Newby in Hamilton County Indiana March 6, 1862.

In 1870 Hamilton County, Indiana, "Harvey" is 32, Jane 27, Margaret 7, John 5, Aveline 3, and William nine months.
In 1880 Hamilton County, Indiana, Harbin is 42, no occupation, with Jane 39, Margaret C. 17, John H 15, Andgelina 13, and William E. 10, all born in Indiana.
 


Harbin proved up a quarter in 8, 7S 42W in 1895.
Belle Mangus wrote of early Kit Carson County settlers "Harbin Hobbs, related to the Gerharts."

In 1900 Hamilton County, Indiana, Harbin born Nov 1838 and Jane 57, have to grandchildren Ira V> Lorenz 11 and Hattie G. 9.
Harbin and Jane are alone in 1910 Hamilton County.
Jane died in 1918, and is buried in Arcadia, Hamilton COunty # 48625926.

This morning at 10 o;clock the funeral services of the late Jane Hobbs, wife of Harbin Holms, took place at Arcadia, the services being at the Dunkard church. Rev. Smith officiating. The interment was at the Dunkard cemetery. Mrs. Hobbs was for many years a resident of the east part of this county and will be recalled by the older residents of that section.
The deceased was the last but one of the pioneer residents of Hamilton county, her father, John Newby, locating in the Arcadia community at a very early day. He invaded the wilderness when most of his neighbors were Indians, and reared a large family. The only member of that family now living is Mrs. Patsy Billhymer, a sister of Mrs. Hobbs, she living at Omega and is far advanced in years. Mrs. Hobbs was the mother of four children, three of them surviving. One son is living in the west and another son had also lived in the west for a time; but resided in two years returned to his old home. The only daughter resides in the west.
Mr. Hobbs donated the land the first school was built in the Walnut Grove community. getting up the petition and instrumental in having the building erected. Joseph Orth, who died at the hospital in Noblesvillc a few days ago, was the contractor on the building.
In the earlier days Mr and Mrs. Hobbs resided in Tipton county, they living on what is now known as tho George Hartley farm, in the east part of the county, and the deceased had many friends in that section.


In 1930 Harbin is 92, an inmate at the Noblesville poor asylum.
Harbin 1837-1931 is buried in Arcadia, Hamilton COunty # 48625903,

WILLIAM
William E. Hobbs proved up a quarter in 7S 41 W, Sherman County Kansas, in 1899.
This is another son of Harbin.
1898 "Voltaire Wayside Gleanings" - Goodland Kansas "John and William Hobbs bought a header and binder of William Walker recently."

In 1900 Sherman County, William is farming, married one year to Helena born March 1880 in Illinois. Brother John Aug 1864 in INdiana is a partner.
In 1910 Sherman County, William E. 40 and Lennie 30 have Rae 9, Rosa 7, Charles W. 4, and Lena 1.
In 1920 Sherman County, William 50 and Lena 39 have Charley W. q14 and Lena 11. Rosa C. Murray 17 and John J. Murray 22 are with them.

William Elmer Hobbs was born Sept 10, 1869 to Harbin Hobbs and Jane Newby, and died in Barton County, Missouri April 26, 1938, to be buried in Greenfield Cemetery.

Rosa has married Jacob Belville, and they're in Phillips County Kansas in 1930, with his three daughters, and her Carl 8 and Velma Murray 5.

Rosa Carlile 1902-1978 buried in Eugene Oregon # 57086691.

LENA LAVINA HOBBS was born 29 August 1908 in Ruleton, Sherman, Kansas, and died 21 January 1979 in Roseburg, Douglas, Oregon.She married SIMEON STILLMAN LINNELL 03 July 1923 in Goodland, Sherman, Kansas, son of JAMES LINNELL and SUSAN LINDSEY.He was born 08 December 1900 in Almena, Norton, Kansas, and died 16 October 1988 in Nampa, Canyon, Idaho. 1903 "Henry Schroder gave up the job of hauling water for Gernhart's thresher and John Hobbs is filling the position now." "Mrs. Gernhart gave a dinner at her son Henry's SUnday, in honor of her daughter who is here from Brown County."
1905 "The Laurenz boys of Norton are visiting their uncles, the Hobbs boys."

1906 "The dance given in John Hobbs new granary last Thursday night was well attended and a pleasant time reported. Mr. Hobbs is the third grain buyer in Ruleton. "
" Last Thursday Mr. Hobbs went to Goodland to meet his father and mother. He had not seen them for several years. They may remain a montn or so."

In 1920 Sherman County, Kansas, Harbin is 82, living with son John H. 55, born in Indiana.
John is a farm laborer in Kit Carson County in 1930, with George and Elva Williamson, both 34.
In 1940 Sherman County, Kansas, John is 74, living with John C. Gernhart 72, born in Ohio.

John H. Hobbs 1864-1941 is buried in Goodland # 88043169.
Abbie Lena Knower 1866-1953 is buried in Hamilton County E 44685711.
Margaret Clementine "Clemmie" (Hobbs) Lorenz is bureied in Ottawa County, Kansas # 65426197.
One tree said her daughter Carrie E. 1866-1965 was born at Ruleton Kansas, Harry Kenneth Lorenz Feb 18, 1889 at Goodland, Ira Virgil Sept 16, 1889 in Kansas, Hattie Gertrude 1890-1963 at Ruleton, Kansas, and Lena Grace 1894-1965 at Ada Kansas.
Henry J. Lorenz was widowed in 1900 Ottawa County, Kanss, 37, with Carrie E. 13 and Harry K. 8.
