THOMAS

Thomas proved up a quarter in 33, 7S 42W in 1894.

James Irving Gilmore b. probably in Preble Co., O., Oct. 10, 1829. After his parents' death, made his home with his cousin, Thomas Leech Gilmore, son of Thomas and Margaret Leech Gilmore. After the death of his cousin, he married Sept. 4, 1858, his cousin's widow, Elizabeth (Hawkins) Gilmore, who had been left with 8 young children.
(In 1860 Putnam County, Elizabeth is 40, Wil 20, Emily 18, Jno 16, Benj 16, Mary J. 12, Ladassa 11, Andrew A. 8, Jas K. 6, Elisabeth 4, Frances 2.
He lived on the farm in Putnam Co., until 1862, when he enlisted in the Civil war; was mustered into service in the 18 Battery, Ind., Light Artillery, Eli Lillie, Capt., Aug. 2, 1862, serving as wagon master; went with Sherman, to the sea; was never wounded, but suffered from the effects of the hardships, and privations, that he endured, for the rest of his life. He received an honorable discharge in 1865, and resumed the occupation of farming. He fought by his brother Joseph's side, and when he fell, carried him off the field, and buried him.
(In 1870 Putnam County, Indiana, James Gilmore 50, and Elizabeth 50 have Mary 21, Andrew 18, Jane H. 16, Elizabeth 12, Fanny 10, Id 8, and Thomas 5.

In 1878, the farm was sold, and Mr. Gilmore located in Furnas Co., Nebr., with H. P. Miller and wife, his niece, and her husband, and was joined by his family in 1880. They removed to Kit Carson Co., Colo., but returned to Beaver City, in 1900. (In 1900 Furnas County, Nebraska, James I. Gilmore is 69, Elizabeth C. 80, with T. Edgar 33, born Dec 1866 in Indiana. James Gillmore is 49, Elizabeth 57, both born in Ohio. Ella is 21, Ida 17.)

Mrs. Gilmore d. May 10, 1901, aged 82 years. Mr. Gilmore entered the soldiers' Home, at Grand Island, Nebr. In 1904, he visited friends in Whittier, Calif., returned to the Home in 1905, and d. there July 9, 1909, aged 80 years. (Per # 39922407, Jas I. Gilmore was buried July 9, 1909) James Irving and Elizabeth Gilmore were the parents of 4 children.

ELLA
Ella Francis Gilmore; m. Rev. F. F. Thomas. (Franklin F. Thomas married E. Frankie Gilmore in Furnas County August 28, 1884)

Pursuant to a recommendation by Wray Lodge No. 71, A. F. & A. M., a petition signed by Frederick K. Brown, Hiram Wilson, George W. Myers, William Parke, David A. Vanderpool, Heman W. Clement, Franklin F. Thomas, Jared Marshall, Jesse E. Barlow, and Lewis C. Green was presented to the Grand Lodge A. F. & A. M. of Colorado for a dispensation to open a lodge under the name of Burlington U.D., to confer Masonic Degrees of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. William David Todd, Grand Master of Masons in Colorado, did on June 21, 1889 grant a dispensation and appointed Frederick K. Brown, Worshipful Master; Hiram Wilson, Senior Warden, and Franklin F. Thomas, Junior Warden. Said dispensation was to continue in effect until the annual Grand Communication on September 17th next at Denver, Colorado.


Franklin F. Thomas cash-claimed a quarter in 29, 8S 45W in 1891.

(In 1900 Cumberland County, Illinois, Frank Thomas is a minister, born March 1855 in Indiana, with Ellie Feb 1858 Illinois, have Faust June 1884 Nebraska, Mabel Nov 1886 Nebraska, Fred June 1889 Colorado, and Frank F. June 1891 Colorado.
In 1910 they're in Lakin, Kansas, with Forest 24, Mable C. 23, Fred G. 20, Fleet F. 19, and a servant Marie Bloedorn.

Franklin and Ella are alone in 1920 Taos, New Mexico.
Rev F. F. Thomas 1855-1921 is buried in Taos, New Mexico # 21953066.)
Ella F. Thomas 1858-1929 is buried in Lakin, Kansas, # 42234812.
So is Frank Fleetwood Thomas, born January 5, 1891 at Idalia, Yuma County, Colorado dying 1953 # 42234816.

Frank F. Thomas, 96, died June 16, 2014. He was born Sept. 28, 1917, to Frank Fleetwood and Mary Catherine (O'Loughlin) Thomas. He married Velma Lois Butler July 10, 1949. She died March 3, 2001. Frank is buried in Lakin.

Catherine Phillips was born March 30, 1922 in Lakin, Kansas and departed this life December 14, 2014 at the High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin. Catherine was the daughter of F. Fleetwood Thomas and his wife, Mary (Mame) O'Loughlin Thomas and the granddaughter of the founder of the city of Lakin, John O'Loughlin, and his wife, Mary V. O'Loughlin.
Catherine attended school in Lakin and graduated from Lakin High School in 1940.
She married Philip D. Phillips on September 2, 1944 in Garden City, Kansas.
A life-time resident of Lakin, she worked at the Kearny County Bank as a teller, head teller, and loan officer until her retirement in 1992. She endeared herself to many bank patrons with her helpful nature and efficient style. Catherine also kept books for various city and county agencies.


IDA

Ida Florence Gilmore; m. Harry Hastings Hoyt.

Harry proved up a quarter in 5, 7S 42W in 1893.


THOMAS
Thomas Edgar Gilmore; bachelor; Maxton, Arizona.

In 1928 when the airplane "Yankee Doodle" - Harry Tucker, owner, C.B. D. Collyer piloting, crashed southeast of Prescott, Arizona, "old Ed Gilmore's pack burros carried the bodies of the aviators over trails to the nearest road..."
(In 1930 Yavapai County, Arizona, Thomas C. Gilmore is a gold miner, 64 , single, born in Indiana, lodging with Joseph and America Tomlinson. (In 1940 Yavapai County, Thomas is 68, boarding with the Maxwell and Jane Smith family)
The death certificate says Thomas was born Dec 7, 1866 in Greencastle, Indiana, and died August 13, 1942 at the Yavapai County Hospital. He lived at the Brinkmeyer Hotel in Prescott, and was to be buried August 19 in Prescott.)



MARTHA

Martha Elizabeth Gilmore; dau. of James Irving and Elizabeth Christian (Hawkins) Gilmore; grand daughter of James and Betsey (Ramsey) Gilmore; and great granddaughter of William and Martha (Ochiltree) Ramsey; was born in Putnam Co., Ind., July 5, 1856. She attended the public schools; was a student in Ind. Asbury University; m. Charles Lyman Lundy, of Greencastle, b. in New Castle, Pa., May 30, 1849. (Charles L. "Lendy" married Martha "Gilman" in Montgomery County, Indiana on October 26, 1876)
He was in the grocery business, in Illinois, located a homestead, in Kit Carson Co., Colo.; (Charles L. Lundy proved up a quarter in 28, 7S 42W in 1895.) served as Deputy Co. Clerk and Recorder, in 1895.
( In 1910 Kit Carson County, Charles is 60, born in Pennsylvania, managing a retail lumber yard, with Martha E. 53 and Roy G. 33, both born in Indiana.
For 13 years, manager of Foster Lumber Co., at Hoxie, Colo.(Probably Kansas), Scott City, Kans., and Burlington, Colo., where he died March 11, 1915. Mrs. Lundy removed to Greeley, Colo., for better advantages for her children, but returned to the farm. The children of this family are:
Roy Gilmore Lundy; b. in Greencastle, Nov. 3, 1877; served in the Spanish-American war, in the Philippines; returned to Colo.
Claude McNally Lundy; b. in Centralia, Apr. 23, 1885; m. June 19, 1914, at Springfield, Colo., to Nelhe Baker, dau. of a merchant at Springfield, b. Apr. 1898. His father purchased a ranch near Springfield, stocked it with horses and mules, and put Claude in charge.






JAMES

James H. Gilmore timber-claimed a quarter in 21, 7S 49W in 1895.

In 1900 Greencastle, James H. is a merchant tailor, 46 and Martha 45, both born in Indiana,

In 1900 they were in Greencastle " The death of Capt. Josiah Clinton Williams occurred Tuesday morning at two o'clock at his home on South Water Street [Greencastle]. About a week before, while attending the funeral of his sister, Mrs. Mary Bodle, he contracted a severe cold which terminated in pneumonia to which his death was due. "Captain Williams was born in Putnamville, sixty years ago, being the son of the late Worthington B. Williams. "In August 1861, Capt. Williams enlisted as a lieutenant in Company I, 27th Indiana Vols., and was later promoted to the captaincy of Company C of the same regiment and served through the entire war. At the time of his death he was Adjutant of Greencastle Post No. 11, G.A.R. Surviving him are two brothers, Worth Williams, of this city, and Frank Williams of Putnamville, and Mrs Thos. Williams [sic, should be Williamson] of California and Mrs James Gilmore and Miss Edistina Williams of this city."
Mattie W. Gilmore 1855-19.. has a stone in Forest Hill Cemetery, # 128169268.
James N. Gilmore - born and died October 23, 1901 is also buried there, # 67066013.
In 1910 Whittier, California, James Gilmore is doing odd jobs, 56, Matilda 55.
They were in Whittier in 1913:
William Clay Gilmore born April 8, 1840. On Dec. 25, 1867, he m. Mary Catharine Lander, of Hamrick Station, Putnam Co., and lived in a house on the home place, which he managed until it was sold; when he took as his interest the home in which he had lived. In 1879, with his bro.-in-Iaw, Wellington Kelsey, he located near Beaver City, the County seat of Furnas Co., Nebr., where he took up a homestead and tree claim, located side by side, which gave him a farm of half a section of fine prairie land. He began improvements and the preparation of a home for his family who came the next year. In 1890, he removed to Mills Co., Iowa, later to Glenwood, where he now lives. Mrs. Gilmore d. Dec. 4, 1900. In the fall of 1913, Mr. Gilmore visited his brothers and sisters, some of whom he had not seen for many years. Mrs. Francis Thomas and family in Garden City, Kans., Mrs. Mary Kelsey and James H. Gilmore, in Whittier, Calif., and on his return, his son Walter, at Willows, California, and sister, Mrs. Libbie Lundy, at Burlington, Colo. At the age of 75 years, he is still hale and hearty. Mr. and Mrs. Gilmore were the parents of six children.

In 1920 Whittier, California, J. H. Gilmore is a janitor in an office building, 65, Martha L. 64 teaches piano.

They were in Whittier in 1922 "Worthington Augustus Williams was born March 5, 1849 at Rose Lawn farm near Putnamville, Indiana and passed away March 24 1922 at his home in Greencastle, Indiana. He was the son of Worthington Buckingham and Lydia Ann Reed Williams and the fifth child of a family of eleven children. Father, mother, Josiah, Edistina, Edwin, Mary, Carrie and Frank have preceded him to the Land Beyond. Three sisters survive -- Mrs. Mattie Gilmore of Whittier, California, Mrs. Flora Weaver of Eureka California, and Mrs. Gertrude Williamson of this city. "
James died in Los Angeles County Dec 19, 1923.

Mattie is back in Greencastle in 1930, widowed, 75, living with widowed sister Anna Williamson 85.

Mattie was alive in 1937 "Mrs. Gertrude Williamson, widow of Edwin T. Williamson, passed away at her home at 203 South College Ave., in the morning of July 4th, 1937 at 3:15 o'clock. She had been ill for about six weeks. Mrs. Williamson was born May 19, 1844 at Putnamville. She was the third child of Worthington Buckingham and Lydia Ann Aapsley Reed Williams and is survived by one sister, Mrs. Mattie L. Gilmore, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Williamson was an accomplished artist and poet and in her early days traveled extensively both in America and abroad. She was a member of the Presbyterian church which was founded by her grandfather, Rev. Isaac Reed and was known for her philanthropic work. The funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon at three o'clock with interment at Forest Hill cemetery."
