One tree said Marshall was born to parents Oliver W. Dake and Elizabeth E. Dake.
"Edward W. Dake was born in June 9, 1808 at Prescott, Ontario, Canada to parents Immanuel and Lucresa Wiatt Dake. He married Christiana Smith. He married a second time to Mary Ann (maiden name unknown) She was born October 29, 1830 in New York and died November 27, 1890 at Wonewoc, Juneau, Wisconsin). In the 1870 Wisconsin Census he was listed with his wife and three sons: Eugene (25), Frances (23) and Marshall (15). He died on July 1877 (place of death may have been New York or Wisconsin) and was buried at Hammond, St. Lawrence Co., NY."

Marshall Dake, son of Edward and Mary Dake, married Nettie Hollingshead, daughter of John and Mary Ann Hollingshead, in Sauk County February 7, 1877.

Marshall Dake in 1880 Sauk County, Wisconsin, 24, married to Nettie 21.
Marshall cash-claimed a quarter in 35, 7S 42W in 1891.
Marshall Dake is in 1900 Juneau County, Wisconsin, a farm laborer born October 1855 in New York, single, living with brother Eugene Feb 1846., Eugene is married to Julia 48 and has
John Hollingshead proved up a quarter in 27, 7S 42W (SHERMAN COUNTY KANSAS) in 1890.
"Kanorado, July 8, 1897

John T. Hollingshead was born in Tennessee May 22. 1826. but grew to manhood in Kokomo, Ind; later he went to Iowa where he married Mary Ann Graham June 23, 1856. After his marriage he removed to Sank county. Wis.. where he continued to reside until the breaking out of the war. He enlisted, in the fall of 1861. in "A" Co. 19th Wis. Vol. and served his country's cause until the close of the war.
He moved to Sherman county, Kan., in 1886, where he has since resided After a lingering and painful illness, he died July 1. 1897. He leaves three sons and three daughters and his wife also survives him. He rests in our quiet cemetery, and out on these wide plains and under the blue sky Mother Earth has taken one more of her patriot sons lovingly to her bosom.
He will be remembered in private life as a man full spirit, loving adventure, fond of a joke and the companionship of old comrades, indulgent to his family, kind hearted and generous to a fault.
The funeral services were conducted by rev. Bates, assisted by Rev. Rogers, and the G. A. R. post of which he was a member. The casket was draped with the flag and loaded with flowers, and a large concourse of people testified their regard for the deceased by their presence and expressions of sympathy. "

Sherman County, Kansas - "In 1891, at Denver, Mr. Henry Hartstine married Mrs. Nettie Hollingshead Dake. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hollingshead, are both deceased. Her father was a pioneer settler in Sherman County in the year 1886. Mr. and Mrs. Hartstine are rearing a nephew, John Hollingshead, born December 31, 1907, now a student in the public schools. "


"Frances Marie Jeffrey, 89. Ozark, formerly of Kansas City and Raytown, Mo., died Saturday. Feb. 24, 2001 in the Ozark Nursing and Care Center, Ozark. The daughter of Frank and Nettie Holstine, she was born June 14, 1911, in Kansas City, Mo. She is survived by a son, John Jeffrey, Ozark and daughter Mary Jane Withers, Independence. No services are planned. The body has been cremated under direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home South, Springfield. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo."


1897 Goodland, Kansas "Among the grip victims was John Hollingshead. John proceeded to hunt up some medicine Dr. Gandy had given him two years ago; though he couldn't remember if it was for torpid liver, gout, appendicitis or a broken heart, but having faith in the doctor, John took a dose. There isn't as much cf John as there was, and he has a sad and faraway look in his eyes and is a little shaky on his feet, but he can smile faintly as be tells that is has no grip"
John T. Hollingshead 1826-1897 is buried in Kanorado # 27472710, with Mary Ann 1832-1903.
In 1905 Dane County, Wisconsin, Marshall is 50, born in New York, a boarder.

1914 Wray "Mrs. Bert Dake and little daughter, Miss Ruth, came down Monday evening and are visiting Mrs. Dake's brother, M.M. Cruse and family. Mr. Dake is known to quiate a number of the people who have resided here for a number of years as she spent her girlhood days in this vicinity. Their home is in Pine, this state."
Albert Dake 1862-1939 is buried in Conifer, Colorado # 63933300.

March 12, 1897 Kanorado items “Little Alice, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hollingshead, died of la grippe Monday afternoon and was laid to rest Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Damon conducted the services. This is the second one lost from their family in less than a year and the sympathy of the comunity (sic) goes out to them” (James Artemus Hollingshead could have been the "Arthur")

James Artemus Hollinghead was buried July 25, 1951 in Colorado Springs # 34860371.
So is Minnie B. 1874-1908 # 91602679.


In 1900 Colorado Springs, James Hollingshead, born March 1862 in Wisconsin, married six years to Minie October 1874 Iowa, have Lana May 1894 in Kansas and Mary A. March 1900 in COlorado. Brother Frank, a traveling salesman for monuments, March 1859 in Wisconsin is with them.
Minnie has had five children, two living - so the Alice dying 1897 in Kanorado is probably their daughter.

1901 Goodland "Frank Hollingshead was granted a divorce from Mary E. Hollingshead."
Frank Hollingshead died June 9, 1903 at the home of his sister in Calhan, Colorado, about 50 years of age. About 20 years ago Mr. Hollingshead suffered amputation of a leg as a result of a railroad accident. He was living on a farm near Kanorado.
The sister in Calhan is probably Cassie Reynolds, married to James. Cassie was born in Wisconsin in 1869, and died in 1932,
Elijah Hollingshead claimed a quarter in section 9, 8S 42W in 1894.


Mary Amelia Hollingshead, age 21, married her cousin Victor T. Pickrel, age 24. Both were from Kanorado.
