Former Fairfield resident Francis Brodrick, 68, of Hastings, died Aug. 23, 2007, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings. Services were held Aug. 27 at 10 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sutton, with Rev. Judy Terry-Nuss officiating. Interment was in the Fairfield Cemetery. Visitation was held Aug. 26 from noon-9 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Chapel. A memorial has been established to the family. Brodrick was born December 13, 1938, in Clay Center to Russell and Elsie (Hilborn) Brodrick. He received his education in Fairfield and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1956. After high school, he began farming with his father on the family farm. Brodrick married Sharon Layher on April 3, 1960, in Grand Island. He was employed at the Meat Animal Research Center from 1984 until his retirement. He received the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award from the Knights of Aksarben Foundation, which recognizes farm ground owned by a family for more than 100 years. He enjoyed cars and car shows, horses and horseshows, and spending time with family and friends. Brodrick is survived by his wife, Sharon of Hastings; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Terri Brodrick of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Brian Sheridan of Sutton; son and daughter-in-law, Rich and Lavina Brodrick of Sutton; grandchildren, Justin and Megan Brodrick, Kiley and Chad Sheridan, Allison Brodrick, and Samantha and Shelby Overturf; and numerous other friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and an aunt and uncle, Gerald and Margaret Humbert. |
