Christian and Elizabeth Rediger, 6 South 50 West
In 1880 Woodford County, Illinois, Christ Rediger is 38, Lizzie 22, Eddie 4, and Phebe 1.
Christian claimed a quarter in 7, 6S 50W, Kit Carson County in 1894.
Elizabeth Rediger died in Hartford, Kansas, November the 13th, 1895.
She and a part of the family came here from Colorado 4 weeks before her death.
She was 39 years, 8 months and 6 days old.
She was mother of 13 children of which one went before her. She leaves 12 children and husband to mourn their loss, but they need not mourn as those that have no hope. What was most sad, Bro.Rediger and part of the family did not arrive here until the day after her death. She was buried on the 16th.

with Phoebe April 1879, Joseph Sept 1880, Jacob Nov 1881, Susie October 1884, Lena January 1886, and Christian October 1887 born in Nebraska. Benjamin January 1891, Emma Feb 1892, Wilhelm Sept 1893, and Lydia Feb 1895 were born in Colorado.
In 1910 Seward County, Christian is 69, William 16, and Lydia 15.
CHRISTIAN REDIGER was born in Freiburg. Baden, Germany, Nov. 27, 1840; died at the home of Perry Stutzman, Jan. 21, 1932; aged 91 y. 1 m. 24 d. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Eigsti June 25, 1878. To this union were born 13 children, 7 sons and 6 daughters.
He came with his parents from Germany to Woodford Co., Ill., in the year 1868.
In 1883 he with his family came to Milford, Nebr., where they lived until the year 1889.
They later located at Thurman, Colorado. From there they moved to Hartford, Kansas,
and because of the death of his life companion, he moved again to Milford, Nebraska, in the year 1899.
In this community he remained the rest of his life. During the last 20 years he lived with one of his children.
His wife, 2 sons, 1 daughter, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by 10 children: Edward, Phoebe, Joseph, Susie, Lena, Benjamin, Emma, Christian, William, Lydia.
He is also survived by 2 brothers and 2 sisters, 65 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He accepted Christ as his personal Savior in his youth and united with the Mennonite Church of which he was a member when he died. He was apparently in good health until the last few days of his life when pneumonia set in, which caused his death. Funeral services were held at the East Fairview Church, conducted by J. E. Zimmerman and Ben Schlegel. Text, Rom. 8:18. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Benjamin was born January 20, 1891 at Reckre/Keclere? (Probably ARICKAREE), Colorado, registering fro WWI in Milford, Nebraska, farming, married.
When he registered for WWII, he said he was born in Denver.
Benjamin 1891-1974 is buried in Seward County # 27719290, with Katie Edna (Bender( Rediger 893-1974.
EMMA
Emma Roth was born in Flagler, Colorado, Feb. 19, 1892; died at Spartansburg, Pa., Apr. 2, 1986; aged 94 y. Surviving are one daughter (Geraldine Mrs. Raymond Miller), 7 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. She was a member of Valley View Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on Apr. 5, in charge of Mervin Miller. On Apr. 7, services were held at East Fairview Mennonite Church, Milford, Nebr. Interment in East Fairview Cemetery
She's buried with Peter Roth 1887-1958.

Susan B. Rediger, 22, born in Illinois, to Christ Rediger and Lizzie Eigsti,
married John A. Hershberger 19, born in Nebraska,
son of Abraham Hershberger and Sarah Stulzman, on August 23, 1906 in Seward County.
In 1940 they're in Washington County, Iowa, John 54 is selling refrigerators, Susie 55, and Burdette 13. All were in Seward County, Nebraska in 1935.
"John A., son of Absolam P. and Sara (Stutzman) Hershberger, born Feb. 9, 1887 at Milford, Nebraska, passed away of a heart attack at his home in Wellman, Iowa, July 1, 1952; aged 65 y. 4 m. 22 d. In his youth he united with the Mennonite Church near Milford, Nebraska, later transferring his membership to the Lower Deer Creek Church, Kalona, Iowa, where he was a faithful member at the time of his death. On Aug. 23, 1906, he was united in marriage to Susie Rediger.
Surviving are his companion, 5 daughters (Hilda - Mrs. Melvin Roth, Wellman, Iowa; Elva - Mrs. Earl Roth, Parnell, Iowa; Thresa - Mrs. Rolla Swartzendruber, Iola - Mrs. Paul J. Hershberger, Kalona, Iowa, and Burdette - Wellman, Iowa), 3 sons (Edgar, Milford, Nebraska and Clarence and Albert, Wellman, Iowa), 3 brothers (Ammon, Union City, PA; Allen, Albany, Oregon; David, Milford, Nebraska; Paul A., Wellman, Iowa; Ezra, McPherson, Kansas), 3 sisters (Mrs. Lavina Rediger and Mrs. William Hauder, Milford, Nebr.; Mrs. Chris Ernest, Kalona, Iowa), 20 grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were 3 brothers (William, Arthur, and Edward), one sister (Alice), and his parents. In his last days here on earth he enjoyed the revival meeting held at Kalona.

was born Oct. 10, 1884; died at the Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa, Oct. 31, 1962;
aged 78 y. 21 d. She lived in Seward County, Nebr., from 1899 to 1938,
when the family moved to Wellman, Iowa.
On Aug. 23, 1906, she was married to John A. Hershberger,
who died in July, 1952.
Surviving are 8 children
(Mrs. Hilda Roth, Elva-Mrs. Earl Roth, Theresa-Mrs. Rolla Swartzendruber, Clarence, Albert, Iola-Mrs. Paul J. Hershberger, Edgar, and Burdette), 23 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one sister (Emma-Mrs. Pete Roth), and 3 brothers (Joe, Ben, and William).
Four brothers and 4 sisters preceded her in death.
She was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church. Funeral services were held at Lower Deer Creek, Kalona, Iowa, Nov. 2, in charge of J. Y. Swartzendruber, Dean Swartzendruber, and Robert K. Yoder."

William registered for WWI in Seward County, Nebraska, born September 12, 1893 at Reckre, COlorado, farming, with a wife and child.
William Rediger, 74, died Monday morning, July 15, 1968 at Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. He had been hospitalized since Saturday.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock this Thursday afternoon, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Pastor Swartzendruber, of the Mennonite Church, will officiate at the rites, and interment will be in the GAR Cemetery.
Grandsons of Mr. Rediger will act as pallbearers. They are Hurly Miller, Randy Miller, Ivan Stutzman, Bill Stutzman, Greg Rediger and Him Rediger.
He was born September 12, 1893, at Thurman, Colo., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Rediger. At an early age he moved to Milford, Nebr., where he was married to Mary Kremer, January 8, 1913. At that time he moved to South Dakota, and located on a farm just north of Miller. Later they moved to a farm just west of Miller. He was a member of the Mennonite Church.
Surviving his death are his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Roy Stutzman, Milford, Nebr., and Mrs. Wayne Miller, St. Lawrence; five sons, Millerd and Wayne Rediger, Miller, Maurice and Dale Rediger, St. Lawrence, and Harley Rediger, York, Nebr.
LENA
Lena Rediger and Perry Stutzman, both 21, married in Seward County on February 14, 1907.
He was the son of William Stutzman and Elizabeth Layer.
In 1940 Seward County, Perry is 53, Lena 51, Lorene 18, Evelyn 16, Beulah 14, and Keith 11.
Their daughter Vada Stutzman, born May 27, 1920 at Seward, died in Goshen, Indiana on February 1, 2009, to be buried in Aurora, Ohio. Informant was son David Stutzman of Shipshewana, Indiana.

"Berdean Oswald Jones, 92, of Cassopolis, Michigan and formerly of Goshen,
passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 5, 2016, at her daughter’s home.
She was born July 26, 1923 in Milford, Nebraska to Perry and Lena (Rediger) Stutzman.
On January 4, 1942 she married Orie E. Oswald. He died September 2, 1977. In 2004 she married Vercoe Jones. He died in 2011.
Mrs. Jones is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Gary) Schweitzer of Windsor, Missouri and Virginia (Lon) Carlisle of Cassopolis; a son, Lynn (Wanda) Oswald of LaGrange; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; a daughter, Kathlene; a brother, Lloyd Stutzman and two sisters, Meriel Stauffer and Vada Stutzman."

Christian 1887-1955 is buried in Hand County, South Dakota, with Magdalena (Beckler( Rediger 1890-1960.

"Jacob Rediger was born in Baden, Germany, Sept. 15, 1839; died Jan. 10, 1931; aged 91 y. 3 m. 26 d. In 1865 he came to America as a young man, making his home in Eureka, Ill. In 1879 he moved to Milford, Neb., and in 1890 to Arickaree, Colo. For the last seventeen years he has made his home with his son David of Flagler, Colo. In 1865 he was married to Katherine Schertz. Eleven children were born to this union, 8 sons and 3 daughters. His wife, 5 sons, 1 daughter, 6 grandchildren, his parents, 1 brother, 3 sisters preceded him in death. He leaves 2 daughters (Lydia Schrock, Lena Lichti), 3 sons (David, Ben, Peter), 31 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters. "Jakob Reidiger/Jacob Rediger was born at Ichenheim Sept. 15, 1839,
and died at Flagler, Colorado Jan. 10, 1931. He emigrated from Europe in 1865.
On Aug. 19, 1866 in Woodford County he married Catherine Schertz.
She was born in Illinois June 30, 1843, and died at Yuma, Colorado,
Dec. 24, 1892, a daughter of David Schertz and Catherine Schrag.
His letters to Baden encouraged his parents to follow him.
Herald of Truth, February 1893:
"On the 24th of Dec., 1892, in Arapahoe Co., Colo., of dropsy of the heart,
sister Catharine, maiden name Schertz, wife of Bro. Jacob Rediger,
aged 49 years, 5 mos., 25 days. She had been receiving medical treatment
at Yuma, and died while there. She leaves her sorrowing husband and children;
five children preceded her. Buried on the 27th near Thurman.
Funeral services by Joseph Rediger of Seward Co., Neb., and Jacob Roth,
and Joseph Schlegel of Thurman."

'at school.' Jacob was living with his son David and daughter-in-law Barbara
Ruby when their home was damaged by a tornado at Thurman Aug. 10, 1924.
He is found as a 90-year-old from Baden,
who immigrated in 1860 [1865], in their household on the
1930 census of Thurman.

Leadville Colorado, November 16, 1900
"Peter Pltz was given a preliminary hearing before Justice
Paddock yesterday on the charge of assault with a deadly weapon, and since
the hearing only admitted of the evidence on the side of the prosecution,
Pitz was bound over to the district court where he will have the
opportunity of explainlng his action in emptying a charge from a shotgun
in the back of Peter Rediger's head on the morning after election.
Rediger has sufflclentlv recovered to be able to be in court yesterday
and gave his testimony. The evidence introduced at the hearing yesterday
went to show that Peter Rediger and two other miners reached the Redlger
boarding house at Evansville about 4 o'clock on the morning of November 7.
On the dining room table was a note telling the men that Judge Owens
had been elected. Peter Rediger and his friends took half a dozen
sticks of giant powder and went out to celebrate.
Redlger claims that the powder was exploded at a point 100 feet from Pitz's.
He further testified that he had no words with Pitz until he and his friends returned to the boarding
house which was next door to where Pltz lives. As they passed Pitz's house
he opened the door and fired at them, saying: 'You will fire giant powder,
will you?' or words to that effect. Redder said that Pitz called for his
shotgun and fired. It was loaded with birdshot and the full charge struck
Rediger in the back of the head. A heavy cap which he wore protected him
considerably."
Lena (Summers) Rediger , was born near Milford, Nebr., June 23, 1880; passed away July 21, 1953; aged 73 y. 28 d. On Jan. 9, 1902, she was united in marriage to Pete Rediger. To this union were born 2 sons (Harry E., and Clinton H.), and 3 daughters (Mrs. Ray Stauffer, Mrs. Elmer Burkey, and Mrs. Dean Melson). Besides the sons and daughters, she also leaves 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, one sister (Mary Schlegel), 2 brothers (Dave and John Summers), and a host of other relatives and friends. In her youth she accepted Christ as her Saviour and united with the Mennonite Church and remained faithful throughout the years. Funeral services were held July 23 from the East Fairview Mennonite Church, with Peter Kennel, Shickley, Nebr., officiating, assisted by Ammon Miller and Sterling Stauffer. Burial was made in the church cemetery."

David Rediger, 30, married Barbara Ruby on October 20, 1898 in Washington County, Colorado.
David was a witness for the land claim of Mike Ruby in 4S, 51W in 1912.
In 1900 he's a miner in Leadville, 32, with Barbara 23, Lilie 11, and Anna eight months.
In 1910 Thurman, Washington County, Colorado, he's 42, born in Illinois, on a second marririage to Barbara 33 Canada. Anna is 10, Elizabeth 7, Catherine 4, and Leah 2.
In 1920 Thurman, David is 52, Barbary 43, Anna 20, Lizzie 17, Katy 14, Leah 12, Lidy 5, and father Jacob 82.

Lydia Rediger married Harold Stutzman on September 27, 1934 in Washington County, Colorado.
In 1940 Linn County, Oregon, Harold is 26, Lydia 25, Verle 3 and newborn Mervin. Anna Rediger, 40 is a maid.
Harold died September 22, 1957 in Linn County, and one tree said he was buried in the Lebanon cemetery.
Harold Stutzman, a resident of Linn county since 1938, died at his home here Sunday following a short illness. He was 43 years old.
Mr. Stutzman was born Jan. 5, 1914, at Wood River, Neb.
He moved to Colorado in 1919 and then to Albany in 1938.
He moved to Turner where he lived for three years and then
settled in Brownsville, where he had lived for the past nine
years as a farmer. He married Lydia Rediger Stutzman, who survives him,
on Sept. 27, 1934, at Thurman, Colo.
He was a member of the Fairview Mennonite church.
A short service will be held at the Fisher funeral home in Albany at
12:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by funeral services at the Fairview
Mennonite church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the IOOF cemetery
in Lebanon. The Rev. Henry Gerig and the Rev. Verl Nofziger will
officiate.
Survivors besides his wife are his mother Mrs. Katie Stutzman, two sons,
Verl Stutzman and Marvin Stutzman, both Brownsville; a brother,
Roman Stutzman, Kansas City, Mo., and two sisters, Mrs. Harry Gerig and Mrs. Leo Nofziger, both Lebanon.

Katie Rediger married Harry Buckey on September 14, 1927 in Washington County, Colorado.

Katie Burkey, 101, of Albany died Tuesday April 3, 2007 at Quail Run.
She was born July 4, 1905 in Thurman, Colo., the daughter of David and Barbara (Ruby) Rediger.
Katie married Harry Burkey on Sept. 14, 1927, in Thurman. They moved to Oregon in 1938. He preceded her in death on July 23, 1968.
She was a member of Fairview Mennonite Church. She taught Bible school for many years. She made many quilts. She will be remembered for her cookies. She loved having her grandchildren over as often as she could.
Katie is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Willard and Barbara Burkey of Albany, and Sterling and Sherry Burkey of Albany, Jewell Burkey Stanley of Albany and Agnes Burkey Glaser of Lebanon; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sons Vernon Burkey and Lester Burkey, and sisters Elizabeth Fahndrich, Lydia Stutzman, Anna Rediger, Lillie Birky and Leah Burkey.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Fisher Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Mennonite Church, with committal services following at Fairview Cemetery.

Leah Burkey was born in Thurman, Colo. May 2, 1907,
the daughter of David and Barbara (Rudy) Rediger.
Leah married William Burkey on Sept. 14, 1927, in Thurman. They moved to Albany in 1938 and to Plainview in 1944. Mr. Burkey died June 14, 1967.
She moved to Siletz in 1976 and returned to Albany in 1993.
She was a member of Fairview Mennonite Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting and table games. She was a real reader of her Bible.
She is survived by children Vada Kauffman of Lebanon, Alfred Burkey of Albany, Galen Burkey of Lebanon and Marcile Kirk of Salem; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Catherine "Katie" Burkey of Albany. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter Wilma Burkey, son Gilbert Burkey, and sisters Elizabeth Fahndrich and Lydia Stutzman.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Fisher Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fairview Mennonite Church, with concluding service at Fairview Mennonite Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Oriental Mission Society or Kids Alive International, where two of her granddaughters are serving, in care of Fisher Funeral Home."

Born Oct. 19, 1902 in Leadville, Colo., she was the daughter of David and Barbara (Ruby) Rediger. She moved to Thurman, Colo., where she finished her schooling and worked on the family farm.
She married John Fahndrich Sept. 6, 1923, at her parents' farm near Thurman. The Fahndrichs farmed in Colorado until 1938, when they moved to Albany. Mr. Fahndrich preceded her in death.
Mrs. Fahndrich was a homemaker, worked some on a farm and was a cook for a short time at the Mennonite Home. She belonged to Fairview Mennonite Church and to a church sewing group and a Bible study group.
Mrs. Fahndrich enjoyed quilting, crafts, cooking, music, gardening and taking trips with her family to the coast.
Surviving are sons Dale of Upland, Calif., and Richard of Salem;
daughters Muriel Fahndrich of Albany, and Verdella Slagell of Hydro, Okla.;
sisters Katie Burkey and Leah Burkey, both of Albany; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Brother Kelly Rediger and sisters Lilly Birky, Anna Rediger
and Lydia Stutzman preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at AAsum Funeral Home. A celebration of Mrs. Fahndrich's life will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fairview Mennonite Church. "

Mattie Rediger, 20, of Aurora, Nebraska, daughter of Christian Rediger and Katie Risser, married Benjamin Kramer,21 of Milford, Seward County, Nebraska, in Aurora on September 11, 1906. The marriage was performed by Christian Rediger, minister of the Mennonite Church.
John F. Rediger, 29, son of Christian Rediger and Kathrine Risser, married Emma Rocke on December 24, 1908 in Livingston County, Illinois.
Christian 1849-1938 is buried in Aurora # 131169510, with Katharina 1857-1919 # 131169519.
