"Eliza J. Lee was born at Woodland, Decatur county, Iowa, June 15, 1858. She married Chas. H. Pettis at Garden Grove, Iowa, July 3, 1879. They removed to Decatur county, Kansas, in October 1897, settling near Kanona and in November, 1910, they removed to Seibert, Colo., where she died Oct. 28, 1911. She was the mother of six children, of whom two died in infancy. Those living are Elba C.. Claud H., Ralph and Vesta V. She was a member of the Methodist church at Kanona, having joined some four years ago. The remains were brought to Oberlin, via Dresden, and the funeral held at the home of L. C. Pettis and at the Methodist church. The Royal Neighbors held a short service at the house and Rev. Scott preached a short sermon at the church on "Meeting Death Singly," based on Matt. 24: 41, "Two women shall be grinding at the mill, the one shall be taken and the other left." At the cemetery the Royal Neighbors read the burial serice consigning the body to the grave. Rev. Scott pronounced the benediction. N. B. Bush assisted the Methodist choir in the church service.—Oberlin Kansas, Herald."

Maynard Higgason's nice article in the History Of Cope says Vesta died January 10, 1972, Oscar August 22, 1973, both buried in Denver.

Ralph registered for WWI in Kit Carson County, born at Garden Grove Iowa Sept 3, 1886, single, farming.
