Aug. 6-7, 1966 "The collision of the chartered Trailways bus and a semi-tractor truck in Marshall, Minn., yesterday killed Pearl McNellis, 35, Saratoga, Wyo., a counselor on the trip, and injured 21 of the 40 persons aboard. Bus driver Harry Wheeler, 31, of Portland, underwent surgery at the Marshall hospital. The young people, from Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Wyoming, were given shelter by a local church following the accident. They were to continue on to their homes by another bus today." " One person was killed and 21 were injured today when a semi-trailer truck collided with a bus-load of youngsters returning to western states after a trip to the United Nations headquarters. Killed was Pearl McNellis, 35, Saratoga, Wyo., a counselor on the trip, which was sponsored by the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs for youngsters from Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Wyoming. Authorities said Mrs. McNellis' husband, William, was reached in Denver, Colo., where he was enrolling a daughter in college. More than 40 persons were on the chartered Trailways bus when it collided with a South Dakota state truck hauling peat at the intersections of U.S. Highways 14 and 59 about 20 miles south of this southwestern Minnesota community" Pearl Marie McNellis is buried in Saratoga 1931-1966 # 45695747. Graveside services for former prominent Saratoga businessman, John Edward McNellis, will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 A.M. January 16, 2010 at the Saratoga Cemetary in Saratoga, Wyoming. A luncheon will follow in the Saratoga Room at the Hotel Wolf at 11.30 A.M. A Chapel service will be held Friday morning at 10:00 A.M. January 15, 2010 at Bustards Funeral Home. He was born an only child to James (Bud) and Goldie McNellis on February 11, 1927 in Denver, Colorado. Mr. McNellis died peacefully at his home surrounded by his daughters and other loved ones. During World War II, he served his country for three years in the United States Navy. He then moved back to Rawlins, Wyoming and married Pearl Pudge on August 31, 1947 at the Presbyterian Church in Saratoga, Wyoming. They moved to Denver, Colorado where he attended the Barnes Business School. After earning his degree, they moved back to Saratoga where he apprenticed at the Saratoga State Bank under the guidance of Mr. Fred Healy. He became President-Owner of the bank on August 6, 1956. After many years, he sold the bank and continued doing business at his Platte Valley Real Estate and Insurance Company until he retired. He became a snow bird living half the year in Arizona and half the year in Wyoming. He was actively involved in the community. He was instrumental in getting the Saratoga Swimming Pool in place, the Sandy Beach Ski Area at the Saratoga Lake, and took an active roll in the Ryan Park Ski Area. There wasn't a weekend he went skiing that he didn't have a full vehicle of kids he hauled to the mountain and back. He belonged to several clubs such as Shriners, The Saratoga Lions Club, Masons, Elks, American Legion, Odd Fellows, served as Protem Mayor for a short time, and was a member of the Saratoga Town Council. His hobbies included bowling, water and snow skiing, golf, camping out and taking Jeep rides thru the mountains, playing cards, watching a good baseball game, but most especially spending time with his family and friends. He very much enjoyed his annual trips to Yellowstone National Park to watch the wildlife and enjoy the peaceful sceneries. He is survived by his four daughters: Linda (Eddie) Steelman of Billings, Montana, Karen Brinkman of Sheridan, Wyoming, Teddy (Bob) Ladmirault of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Paula (Paul) Dahlke of Casper, Wyoming. He has eleven grandchildren and twenty- seven great grandchildren that he very much loved and enjoyed. |
JOSIE H. DOBBS, 69, of Falcon died Sunday July 1990 at his home. He had been a sheet metal worker and rancher. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Swan-Law Funeral Home, 501 N. Cascade Ave. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. John Fuller officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Dobbs was born Sept. 7, 1920, in Barrier, Ky., to Isaac and Ethel (Alexander) Dobbs. He had lived in the Pikes Peak region since 1949. Mr. Dobbs served in the Army from Oct. 6, 1942, until Sept.1, 1946, and received the Good Conduct medal and two Bronze battle stars. He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans Zebulon Pike Chapter 1. He was married Jan. 23, 1945, in Monticello, Ky., to Grace Rigney, who survives. Mr. Dobbs also is survived by a son, Ronnie of Florissant; two daughters, Margaret Davis of Hillside and Debra Davis of Falcon; a sister, Mary Rigney of Colorado Springs; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His daughter, Dannie Babcock, is deceased. |
