Kit Carson County Pioneers:
Austin and Sarah M. (Hunter) Younkin, 6 South 49 West
Elijah Younkin was born on Jan. 11, 1816 in Turkeyfoot Township, Somerset County, PA, the son of Jacob and Sarah "Salome" (Weimer) Younkin Jr.
On Nov. 3, 1839, at the age of 23, he was united in holy wedlock with 18-year-old Abigail Dwire (1821-1862).
They produced seven children -- Norman D. Younkin, Ellen Younkin, Martha Younkin, William Younkin, Catherine D. Coons, Barbara Younkin and Albert Younkin. They also raised a granddaughter, Emma Coons (born 1868). With great sadness, they buried their daughters Martha, Ellen and Catherine at young ages.
Elijah was an early school teacher in Turkeyfoot Township, among other early instructors who included Hugh Connelly, John Lichliter, Jack Mitchell and A.J. Colborn. In 1835, there were six schools in the township, and by 1878 the number had grown to 19. He was identified as “among the most proficient teachers” who taught in the township of the 1840s ( Report of the Superintendent of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the Year Ending June 1, 1877, Harrisburg, 1878).
Austin was born May 26, 1848 in Milford, Somerset County, Pennsylvania to Jonas Younkin and Martha Pringey.
In 1850 Somerset County, Pennsylvania, Austin Younken is 2, youngest of Jonas 46 amd Martha 44. Uriah is 21, Archibald 19, Walter 16, Aleexander 14, Edwin 12, Emily 10, Mary E. 7, and Aaron 4.

working at a saw mill, boarding with Manuel and Elizabeth Wheelock 66 along with eight other men.
In 1880 Louisa County, Iowa, Austin is a laborer, 31, with wife Nancy A. 29 born in Virginia
(perhaps Jonas gave incorrect information?). Edith J. is 1, and his father Jonas 76, divorced is with them.
Edith might be the Edith Z. Taylor Elliott 1877-1967 buried in Washington County, Kansas # 69746062, with Robert 1872-1921. They were in Pawnee County, Nebraska in 1900.
Austin married Maggie Hunter in Louisa County January 25, 1872???
In 1900 Pawnee County, Nebraska, Austin is farming, born May 1847 in Indiana, with Maggie April 1850 in Ohio, married 26 years. Johnathan Maury 8 born in Nebraska is with them.
They're on the same page as Robert 26 and Edith 22 Taylor, with their three sons Andrew 4, Leo 3, and Alvie 1.
In 1910 Kit Carson County, Austin is 62, Sarah M. 61, Laura 16, Alfred 11, and Martha May 3.
Austin claimed a quarter in 34, 6S 49W in 1913 and another in 1914.
Austin is the president of the Seibert District 40 school board in 1919, with Sarah E. Davis astresurerr, John Husband secretary.
In 1920 Kit Carson County, Austin is 71, born in Pennsylvania, Sarah M. 69 in Iowa, with Alfred H. 20 New York, Martha M. 13 Iowa, and Verda 8 Colorado. Laura MFry 25 widowed is with them, born in Kansas.
Martha May Younkin married William Francis Fisher on December 19, 1923, recorded in Lincoln County, Colorado..
In 1930 Morgan County, Colorado,William F. Fisher is a truck driver, 40, with Martha 23 born in Iowa. Robert W. is 6, Mary A. 4, Agnes M. 2, born in Colorado.
In 1940 Denver, Martha, 32, is now married to Franz W. Bennett, 32. Robert Fisher is 16, Mary A.; 14, Agnes 12, Inez 9, and William 5.
William Francis Fisher, born March 13, 1889, died February 14, 1958,
buried in Fort Logan # 3346372. His next of kin was a daughter Mrs. Merle Garbe of Lakewood, Colorado.
Austin 1848-1930 is buried in Brush, Colorado # 43232000.

Seibert, Colorado in 1910 and Kit Carson, Colorado in 1920.
Austin and his wife Maggie adopted many children along the way.

Donald Younkin, 84, of Arvada. Survived by his daughter Julie (Gene) Guzikowski, brother Jim (Ginnie)
and grandson Mitchel. Funeral service Tuesday, Nov. 29th, 11:00AM, Aspen Arvada Chapel, 6370 Union St.
Burial at Arvada Cemetery.
